Mersal starring Vijay in the lead was among the most -awaited Tamil releases of the year for many reasons. One, that it marks director Atlee's second collaboration with Vijay. Two, Vijay plays three roles in Mersal. Much to what was expected from the Theri-fic teaser, Mersal opened to a fabulous response from critics and fans, and had a record breaking collection on its first day.
