US-Australia refugee deal in question after Trump abruptly ends call
  • 7 years ago
President Trump referred to a refugee deal with Australia as "dumb" after a phone call with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull regarding the agreement. The phone called got heated when Turnbull pressured Trump to honor an agreement, accepting 1,250 refugees from an Australian detention center. Trump blamed the Obama administration for brokering the deal. While Trump's tweets indicated the deal remains in question, Turnbull said the U.S. is committed to upholding the agreement. When questioned if Trump reportedly hung up the phone during the call, Turnball declined to comment on the matter.
