Scarface, the pit bull mix who attacked his owner, Brenda Guerrero, on December 30 as she tried to dress him in a Christmas sweater, has been put down.
Kara Walker, a spokesperson for Hillsborough County, Florida, explained to the Tampa Bay Times that the dog was euthanized because "...it posed a high risk of danger to the public."
Walker noted that another factor in the decision was the canine's health.
In the midst of the attack, Guerrero’s son used a knife to stab Scarface in the head and neck multiple times, notes the New York Daily News.
While that gave Guerrero, her son, and husband, who was also helping fight the pet, enough time to escape further harm and call for help, it did not immobilize the dog.
Tampa police and Hillsborough County Animal Control arrived not long after and tried to subdue Scarface with a tranquilizer gun, but were unsuccessful.
Authorities were finally able to get the pet under control by adding a Taser and a bean bag gun to their arsenal, reports WFLA.
