Transgender Adult Population Doubled in Last Decade

A team of experts has reported that about 1.4 million adults in the U.S. identify as transgender, double the estimate from a decade ago. Their survey, calculating that 0.6 percent of U.S. adults are transgender, had a timely release, as transgender rights are currently in the spotlight. The demographic is growing, and Americans will have to reckon with the growing number of transgender people. The military is moving to allow transgender service members to serve openly, and there is a well-publicized nationwide debate over transgender people's access to public bathrooms.
