Unchecked growth of diabetes growing, data shows
  • 6 years ago
On Wednesday, the World Health Organization released a report showing that the world-wide number of type one and type two diabetes patients had quadrupled over the last twenty five years. The organization said that one in every 11 people on the planet has one of the two forms of the disease. In 2012 alone, 1.5 million people died as a result of diabetic-related health issues. While type one diabetes is genetic, type two diabetes is caused by health factors like diet, weight gain, and lack of exercise. The report warned that without more aggressive preventative measures, the number of people who suffer from diabetes would continue to rise.
