Sharknado: New Zealand fishermen catch video of shark flying through air

TAURANGA HARBOUR, NEW ZEALAND — Two fishermen took to the water on the morning of Christmas eve in hopes of catching some snapper. Instead, they hooked a 10-foot shark, which put on a display of acrobatics in the fight for its meal.

Elliot Gordon and his friend Paul Adlington say they came freakishly close to a bronze whaler shark, which they estimate was almost as big as their 15-foot boat. The fishermen say the shark stayed hooked on to the mackerel head on their line for about 30 minutes.

The two had caught the shark earlier in the morning that day, but the shark was able to slip off the hook. They were hoping they wouldn't see it again, but decided to start recording in case it came back for seconds.

When they felt something fierce on the end of their line, they knew they were in for round two. When the shark leaped out of the water like a dolphin, they were worried it might actually get closer and land in their boat.
