Taiwanese Hokkien was the dominant language in Taiwan until Mandarin Chinese was brought over and enforced as the national language at the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949. TaiwanPlus spoke to Taiwanese American college student Taliyah Huang who built an app to preserve the language seen by many in the country as a symbol of its unique cultural identity.
