NEW YORK — An off-duty New York police officer shot and killed one of two men who robbed him during a Craigslist scam in Queens, the New York Daily News reported.

The officer met with the two men around 8:30 p.m. at Guy R. Brewer Boulevard and 145th Road in Springfield Gardens after responding to an ad selling a used white BMW.

The men started bargaining with the officer. Then one of them suddenly pulled out a handgun and stole his wallet.

The officer pulled out his gun and fired at the suspects several times, wounding one of the men, who later died at the hospital. The second suspect fled in the BMW and is still at large.

Police found a handgun at the scene.

The shooting comes almost three weeks after a 20-year-old was shot when he tried to rob detectives in Brooklyn.
