Erdogan’s party heading toward decisive election victory in Turkey
  • 8 years ago
Less than half a year after losing its hold on Turkey’s parliament, the country’s ruling Justice and Development Party appears to have regained a decisive majority in a dramatic snap election on Sunday.
With more than 80 percent of votes counted across the country, the ruling party, also known by its abbreviation AKP, was reported to have taken more than 50 percent of the vote and is likely to be able to form a single-party government once more.
It marks a considerable political coup for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has been at the helm of the country for 13 years and hopes to extend his rule.
