Honduras: “Secrets” Law Part of Deeper State Security Strategy

Human rights organizations have denounced a surveillance structure in the new Honduran “Secrets Law” that allows authorities to declare almost all government actions as confidential. This law allows the inner workings of the Honduran state to remain confidential. It also permits authorities to gain access to bank information, computer public services, taxes and other information from any citizen that is deemed necessary. The law contradicts international conventions on access to public information. Gerardo Torres, teleSUr, Central America.
