France considering air strikes on IS targets in Syria
  • 9 years ago
France is said to be considering carrying out air strikes on Islamic State targets in Syria, joining the international coalition led by the United States, the website for Le Monde newspaper said on Saturday.
The growing crisis involving Syrian refugees, the coalition's failure to push back Islamic State, and increasing reports of Russian military presence in Syria were said to have led France to contemplate the matter.
President Hollande announced in September 2014 that his country would start to carry out air strikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq, joining the United States in providing "aerial support" for the Iraqi army.
