It may only be days into the New Year, but it's never too early for a star-studded Hollywood red carpet and awards show. The Palm Springs International Film Festival held its big night honouring stars new and old on January 3rd.

And while some, like 'The Imitation Game' cast took their time getting to the stage, others, such as 'Boyhood' director Richard Linklater couldn't believe they were there at all....

SOUNDBITE, director, Richard Linklater, saying (English):

"What am I doing? I'm getting an award in Palm Springs. I'm being introduced by one of the greatest actors of all time, Shirley Maclaine."

....while 'Birdman' director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu firmly believed the wrong person had got the award.

SOUNDBITE, director, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, saying (English):

"I think there's a mistake. Here I should have been giving this award to Michael. This is his film."

Three actresses were honoured during the evening; Reese Witherspoo
