STORY: Two coffins carrying the bodies of AirAsia crash victims arrived at an Indonesian military base on Wednesday (December 31) and were taken to a hospital where work will begin to identify them.

Police in Surabaya were collecting DNA samples and photographs from relatives to help speed up the identification process.

The first debris and bodies were found on Tuesday (December 30) but adverse weather hampered the operation on Wednesday.

Officials said a total of seven bodies had been recovered off the coast of Borneo so far. They believe they have found the wreck on the ocean floor after sonar detected a large, dark object beneath waters where debris and bodies were floating.

The bodies recovered from the sea, some fully clothed, could indicate the Airbus A320-200 was intact when it hit the water. That would support a theory that it suffered an aerodynamic stall.
