Kerry arrives for Iran nuclear talks on eve of deadline

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday (November 23) joined talks with foreign ministers from the six powers negotiating with Tehran on its nuclear program.

Iran and the powers - the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China - aim to reach a long-term deal to end the decade-old nuclear standoff by a self-imposed Monday (November 24) deadline. Many diplomats and analysts believe an extension may be needed in view of the wide gaps in negotiating positions.

Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported on Sunday that Iranian officials believe it will not be possible to reach a comprehensive deal with world powers in the time remaining.

The six world powers are looking to clinch a pact under which Tehran would curb its nuclear work in exchange for lifting economically crippling sanctions. Iran rejects Western allegations that it has been seeking to develop a nuclear bomb capability.
