Republicans hoping for wave election as voters head to polls

Republicans are hoping for a wave election that could put control of the Senate in their hands as voters head to the polls across the country.

In the Southern California coastal community of Manhattan Beach, some are putting down surf boards to cast ballots.

Analysts predict that Republicans are poised to make gains, and possibly even recapture control of the U.S. Senate.

But with politicians in low standing all around, even those who hope for a Republicans takeover have doubts.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) VANCE ULRICH, LOCAL VOTER, SAYING:

"Well, I'm more socially liberal but fiscally conservative so I'd like to see the Senate go to the Republican side, frankly. So, I don't know, that's what I would like to see happen.
