Refrigerated wagons containing the bodies of victims of the Malaysia Airlines plane crash left rebel-controlled Torez on Monday (July 21) after days of demands from families and governments for them to be returned for burial.

The bodies were gathered on Sunday from the fields in eastern Ukraine where they had lain surrounded by wreckage since the Boeing 777 came down on Thursday, and placed into the wagons.

But rebels and government officials traded blame for the delay in returning them as the Dutch government, whose citizens made up most of the 298 aboard MH17 from Amsterdam, condemned those in control of the site for mishandling the bodies.

Earlier on Monday, Ukraine's deputy prime minister said the train would travel to the eastern city of Kharkiv before the bodies would be taken to the Netherlands.
