Activist shot and wounded at Crimea checkpoint

A man holds up his shirt to show where he was shot by a non-lethal round when pro-Ukrainian activists tried to enter Crimea.

A group of activists tried to cross into the Crimea at a checkpoint, hoping to deliver letters of support and food for Ukrainian military units in the province.

They were stopped by armed men wearing balaclavas and dressed in uniforms of the disbanded Berkut riot police.

The Berkut are blamed for the deaths of most of the 100 people killed in the Kiev unrest and clashes that ousted Viktor Yanukovich.
