Kurds clash with police in Turkey

STORY: Hundreds of Kurds clashed with police in Istanbul on Thursday after police did not let the group leave a black wreath at the French consulate on the anniversary of the murder of three Kurdish women in Paris last year.
Police used water cannons, smoke grenades and pepper spray projectiles to disperse the crowd trying to walk to the consulate. There were no immediate reports of injuries or detentions following the scuffles.
Three Kurdish women, including one who helped found the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebel movement, were found shot dead in Paris on January 9, 2013. The bodies of Sakine Cansiz, a founder of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in the early 1980s, and her two fellow activists were found at an institute in the French capital that has close links with the PKK.
They appeared to have been shot in the head, a French police source said at the time. Kurdish media said one woman was also shot in the abdomen.
