String of bombings in Iraq's Kirkuk

Six bombs went off simultaneously in the central, southern and northern parts of Kirkuk, Iraq on Sunday (December 8), killing at least one civilian and wounding three others, police and medical sources said.
Located 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, Kirkuk is an ethnically mixed city at the heart of a dispute between the Arab-led central government in the capital and ethnic Kurds who have regional authority.
Three of the bombs were planted outside a house of a police officer.
The city suffered an attack by gunmen and suicide bombers just last Wednesday (December 4), that left 11 people dead and 70 others wounded .
Violence in Iraq is at the highest level in at least five years and Baghdad has been targeted almost daily. More than 8,000 have been killed this year, the United Nations says.
Sunni insurgents, mostly with links to al Qaeda, have claimed several large bombings. The last large set of blasts was on Nov. 2
