Riot police clear streets of Kiev

Riot police swarm the streets of Kiev Sunday night at the end of a day of mass protests.

Some who did not get out of the way took a beating -- including journalists.

The broadcaster Euronews says its crew was deliberately attacked.

Mass protests drew several hundred thousands out on the streets to decry the government decision to forego an EU deal.

The rally was by far the biggest seen in the Ukrainian capital since the Orange Revolution nine years ago. It came a day after a police crackdown on protesters that inflamed demonstrators further after President Viktor Yanukovich's policy switch on the EU.

Some are taking the protest sitting down. A tent city is put in Kiev -- where people plan to wait out the government.
