In court, former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak wore sunglasses.

The first day of his trial ended with the judge adjourning the case until next month. Mubarak is accused of ordering the killings of demonstrators who wanted him removed from office.

While he was sentenced to life in prison on these charges last year --- the conviction was thrown out because the proceedings weren't held in accordance with Egyptian law.

Images of the man who ruled Egypt for three decades were broadcast nationwide.

Mubarak remains under house arrest at a military hospital and was returned to facility by ambulance.

His trial begins again September 14th.
