Man in court over London killing of soldier

A police escort rushes a prison van into a court in central London.

Inside is Michael Adebowale, a 22 year old man charged with the murder of a British solider on a London street.

Amid heavy security outside, inside Adebowale was just asked to confirm his name and address and did not enter a plea.

His case is being sent to England's top criminal court the Old Bailey in London.

Adebowale is accused of the murder of this soldier - 25-year old Afghan veteran Lee Rigby - and with the illegal possession of a firearm.

After the brief hearing, Adebowale was taken in convoy to London's high-security Belmarsh prison.

Nearby, in Woolwich, at the scene of the killing, the mound of floral tributes was growing.

The incident has generated a huge response in Britain.

A second suspect, who was also shot and detained by police, is still recovering in hospital.
