Heavy rain here in Korea overnight caused flash flooding in some parts of the nation... causing casualties and property damage.
Three people were found dead in submerged vehicles in the second-largest city, Busan, after being trapped inside a flooded underpass.
Jang Tae-hyun has the details.
Torrential downpours of 80 millimeters an hour.
Flash floods hit the city of Busan on Thursday night.
"The water went up above the knees. You can see the stain below. We can't use the medicine that was up here."
"Three refrigerators fell down. It's such a lot of damage. I'm about to cry."
The heavy rain killed three people in Busan after they were trapped in a flooded underpass.
It happened in around 10 minutes.
A person who was rescued from the underpass said everything happened so quickly that they couldn't evacuate.
According to that person, around seven cars entered the underpass at 10:30 PM.
At that time, the water covered about two-thirds of the car wheels.
When halfway inside the underpass, cars stopped moving forward.
It seemed like there was a car accident, but in three to four minutes... water started drowning the cars.
It covered the car windows and eventually got in the cars.
Some of the cars began floating up.
People inside tried to break the windows to get out of the cars.
The witness said that when three men broke the window and got out, the water was so high that they couldn't touch the ground.
When fire fighters came, the water was two-and-a-half meters high.
People were screaming for help and some were standing on their cars to survive.
Even those standing on their cars had water up to their waist.
Two of the people rescued died during their treatment, and after the underpass was drained, another body was found.
As well as the deaths in Busan, the heavy rain caused one death in Gimpo, Gyeonggi-do Province, and another in the city of Ulsan.
The downpours killed five in total, and injured four others.
217 people needed temporary accommodation.
