MARK LOWNDES - AFTERNOON

PRESENTED BY PAUL

Think Jack Johnson meets Stevie Wonder and what do you get? Brisbane born and bred vocalist Mark Lowndes definitely should come to mind. Described by those lucky enough to have seen him perform as an evocative songwriter with captivating vocals, the self proclaimed optimist sees his talent as a tool to put multiculturalism and community on the map. His underlying messages thread through his strong and free spirited compositions with music being the root of his expression.

Mark's ability to draw and apprehend his audience with his clever lyrics was rewarded 'Acoustic in the Park' winner in 2006. In 2007, the acoustic soul artist was voted runner up for Brisbane's FRETFEST find of the year breaking boundaries with his originality and individualism. In late 2008, Mark released his self titled EP which has been a growing success both locally and internationally. The six tracks EP displays RnB and reggae influences in each track through beautiful yet strong melodic tunes. Ben Preece of "Time Off" magazine could write nothing but positive words on the artist which soon led to a music video for his debut single, Butterfly in early 2009.

Mark has since received high recognition for his performances and is developing a Global following. Mark has opened for MOTOWN Records Grammy Award Winning group, 'Boys to Men" on their Australian National tour, performed at 'Parachute Festival', New Zealand, 'NZ Bring It On', "Queensland Multicultural Festival", "Easterfest", "Woodford folk festival", as well as local venues throughout Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Brisbane has since embraced Mark's musical talents and now has regular shows at 'Brisbane festival, Styling Up', Valley Fiesta, Pasifika (Brisbane Powerhouse), Fete de la Musique and the Zillmere and Roma St. Multicultural festivals.

Through all this, the cheeky smiled singer also plays a vital role within the community by supporting the 'Hope for the Homeless' cause. His passion to impact the next generation through his music has resulted in running workshops throughout high schools in Brisbane.
