Growing up in Melbourne but now based on the Sunshine Coast, you might find singer/songwriter Andrew Redford, guitar in hand, in any number of rooms around South East Queensland, playing his own blend of acoustic pop with a twist on any given night. But his aspirations definitely lie in something more ambitious musically, something that embodies a singer that can indeed exist standing solo in the spotlight, but even more so would thrive further fronting his own outfit much like a Benjamin Gibbard, a Chris Martin or even an Ed Sheeran with an arsenal of pedals at his feet.
At just 23, Andrew’s experience, so far, belies his years. Winner of theTeen QSong Award at seventeen and an International Songwriting Competition finalist on three occasions. Completing and releasing his debut EP – City – while still in high school, two more quickly followed (2011′s She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not and 2012′s Hey Lucy) as well as a slew of live shows, tour supports with the likes of Pete Murray and Shannon Noll along with an impressive accumulation of loyal followers. In 2012, he won the Telstra Road to Discovery and ended up in Nashville, Tennessee co-writing at Sony Studio’s with alt-country singer Kim Richey amongst others, and playing the likes of the notorious Blue Bird Cafe.
2015 is certainly bound to be a formative year in Andrew Redford’s story. Still writing with his aspirations of performing on a bigger scale, he is currently travelling the East Coast of Australia performing shows. What’s next? Only time will tell but in an ideal world, the band will form behind him, the singles will be released in quick succession and the music world will embrace.
