It turns out there'll be no luxury suites on China's new high-speed bullet trains between Beijing and Shanghai. Railway authorities' original plan to build the suites has gotten axed. They'll be replaced with standard seats.

It's because of complaints from passengers about expensive ticket prices. Many can't even afford regular seats.

The luxury suites in high-speed trains on other routes proved to be unpopular—with tickets priced at more than 300 U.S. dollars.

With rising inflation, and higher costs of living in big cities, many Chinese are feeling the pinch in their wallets. The average Chinese cannot afford such extravagance. Many feel bitter over the increasing gap between the rich and poor in the country.
