00:00Imagine waking up to the biggest sky you've ever seen in a place where your
00:05dreams can take flight. This is it. How incredible would this be for this to be
00:11your story? This is everything I've ever envisioned. Hashtag ranch life. We don't
00:16need to imagine it. We grew up on a ranch in some of the most beautiful country
00:20around. The lessons we've learned and our passions for the ways of the West
00:24made us who we are. This is not glamorous work. But today a new generation is
00:29chasing that dream. Oh my god. I'm in love with this. I'm at peace already just being
00:35here. So we're tapping into our roots and everything we know about real estate to
00:39show that anyone can have that dream. They just need to know where to look.
00:44What are you waiting for? Let's have some fun.
00:46I'm a stick to what you know kind of guy. So whenever Sarah and I agree on a place that
01:01we can live and raise our family, I don't plan on ever moving again. Sarah and Thomas
01:06are finally ready to leave their small suburban home in Aubrey, Texas for a dream property where
01:11they can create a family homestead. We met about 20 years ago. We dated for a couple of years and
01:18then got married. I married up by the way. We were also very, very poor. I worked full time. He worked
01:26full time. I worked full time. We moved into the house that I grew up in. It was a very dated house.
01:35Do we really want to put all the time and effort into this house? Do we just want to go
01:39find a new house? Because it is constantly in remodel. There hasn't been floors in the kitchen
01:44for a while. You know, raising a family on plumber's wages, because I'm just an old plumber,
01:49it's a good life, but it's never going to be over the top. When Elizabeth, our youngest daughter,
01:55when she was born, I decided it's time to start our own business. I quit my job. She started helping
02:01me cold calling and that was in 2014. It was pretty crazy. It was unexpected for it to take off as quick
02:08as it did, but it was a blessing, so we didn't complain. Our business has done very well. It's
02:13grown beyond my wildest expectations. They've got their sights set on Van
02:18Alstyne, just outside of Dallas, with that small town vibe where everyone knows each other,
02:24and Friday nights are all about high school football.
02:28I've got a budget in mind of somewhere around $21 and $1.2 million. Budget this and budget that.
02:35And she hates that word. I hate that word. I mean, I was saying two, but that's only like...
02:40How much did you say? Maybe two.
02:43Two million? I told you she hates the word budget.
02:47I am wanting something castle-like. I want something that is very much open,
02:55something that may be closer to some neighbors.
02:59I'm just looking for a nice, quaint home on a lot of land.
03:03I like to have room to roam. I don't like people right next door that can yell at me for a cup of sugar.
03:09This is a big upgrade for Sarah and Thomas, but they're miles apart in terms of what they want.
03:14Well, they did agree on the essentials. Land, move in ready, close to town, teenager-friendly.
03:21The brothers really have a lot of ranch experience. The amount of acreage that you're wanting,
03:26like, hopefully they can kind of put that into perspective.
03:28Well, I'm excited to hear what they have to say, and hopefully they can, you know, guide us in the right direction.
03:34I'm just going to rely on them and trust them and trust you.
03:37The first place is a private oasis on a hill,
03:39and Sarah will love that it's only a 10-minute drive to the nearest town.
03:44You've been searching for a bit, I guess.
03:46Yes. The nice, big porch is beautiful.
03:49You know, when you look around here, you can't see any other houses here.
03:53It's definitely tucked away, which is a major plus.
03:56I mean, this is 18 and a half acres. That's a lot of land, and it's gorgeous.
04:00I'm thinking somewhere between 50 and 100 acres is what I'm thinking.
04:05So you want a full-time job, or are you thinking you guys are going to hire staff?
04:08I think I have two teenage children that need to learn how to pull their weight.
04:13Is this their dream?
04:15Is this their dream? No, this is very much my dream, not their dream.
04:18Yeah. We grew up on a ranch, and we had 160 acres.
04:21It did get to a point where it was too much for my parents.
04:24So just think about that as we go through.
04:27You know, them are great points. 18 just seems small to me.
04:30Sarah came from, you know, she's a town girl. She's a city girl.
04:33So to her, she's like, no, that's more than enough.
04:36100 acres is a lot to take on, but 18 acres strikes the perfect balance.
04:41Plenty of room for Thomas' vision without turning it into a full-time job,
04:44so he can still focus on family.
04:46You know, especially my children, they've got the world at their fingertips in a cell phone,
04:51and if we can teach them a little bit of the old ways of life,
04:54maybe they'll appreciate that a little more.
04:56I 100% agree.
04:57I absolutely agree.
04:57Come on, inside.
04:58Oh, wow.
05:03Oh.
05:04I love how open it is.
05:05Yeah, this is 2,500 square feet, so they've opened this up at some point here.
05:09You can see that they have some...
05:10Yeah, because it feels bigger than 2,500 square feet.
05:12It does. It really does.
05:13I really want, like, a big kitchen. That's important.
05:16But the open concept is kind of what you're looking for right there, huh?
05:19Yes, we could have a formal dining if we wanted, but the kids could eat their cereal in here.
05:24Yeah.
05:24And they will.
05:25When it comes to the kitchen, this is all Sarah.
05:28The main suite is over here.
05:29How does this compare to the size of your current bedroom?
05:31Twice the size of our current bedroom.
05:33Oh, really?
05:34Yes.
05:34Okay, great.
05:34A tub with a giant window so you can check out your livestock and scrub your butt at the same time.
05:40Yes.
05:41Okay.
05:41I do like that.
05:43The kids' bedrooms would be on the other end of the house, so it's nice to have that separation.
05:47I agree.
05:48I agree.
05:49And then you've got this nice, big cupboard deck right here.
05:51This back patio is beautiful.
05:54That's your property line.
05:56That fence way back there.
05:57And you could dig a pond back there like you've always wanted.
06:00Yeah.
06:01You like the idea of a pond?
06:02I love the idea of a pond.
06:03My son and I are big bass fishermen.
06:05This place has two bonus buildings.
06:07You have an event space separating the guest house from the main house.
06:12Oh, wow.
06:12That is beautiful.
06:13I also like the basketball goal because our kids love basketball.
06:17Whoa, whoa, whoa.
06:17Did you just call it a basketball goal?
06:20Maybe that's a Texan way.
06:22I mean, guys.
06:23Whoa.
06:25I can have to.
06:25It's a stable, but they've actually cleared it out.
06:27That's amazing.
06:28Sarah, this would work when we throw events at the house.
06:31I love this.
06:34Who plays pickleball?
06:35Maybe about 40 pounds to go.
06:38Oh, look at this, Sarah.
06:39Wow.
06:40This is basically an entire house.
06:43It's not just a guest suite.
06:44Okay.
06:44Three bedroom, two bathroom, big kitchen and living space.
06:47You're trying to get my family to move in.
06:49Maybe for your teenagers down the road?
06:51No, this is gorgeous.
06:52Yeah.
06:53Absolutely.
06:54Let's head back out front.
06:54So what would you want to see that this place does not have?
06:59For me, more acreage and a little less price.
07:02Okay.
07:03Walking around, every corner we turn, you lit up on this property.
07:07Honestly, this is exactly what I want.
07:10It had the bedrooms.
07:11It had the space that we're needing.
07:14This place is perfect.
07:15It exceeds my expectations.
07:18We've got more to show you, but this is also giving us some direction, too, to make sure
07:21we're showing you the stuff that you're really going to like.
07:24It's going to have to be pretty amazing to beat this place.
07:26Thomas wants land, and this next place delivers 60 acres with a custom home just 20 minutes
07:39from town.
07:40It gives him the privacy he wants and Sarah the move-in-ready space she's been dreaming
07:45of.
07:46See, you get your work out, a lot of space.
07:48So wait, wait, Drew.
07:49Where's the property lines?
07:51Okay, so where we drove in, way down beyond the lake there or the pond, that's the beginning
07:56of the property.
07:57We've got about 17 acres over here on this side.
07:59Okay.
08:00You have another 40 acres over here beyond these trees, so tons and tons of space.
08:05Let's focus on the house.
08:07Sarah.
08:07You wanted a castle.
08:09Oh, my goodness.
08:10It's beautiful.
08:11Yeah.
08:11My first impression coming up here was I was in awe.
08:16A couple things I'll point out.
08:18Four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, 5,700 square feet, fully custom and only a couple
08:23years old.
08:24Now, it does come at a price tag.
08:27It's $2.3 million.
08:33$2.3 million, which I know is high.
08:38It's above the max.
08:39It does not have any other outbuilding, so you're not going to have the separate guest
08:43house.
08:44But you have the land.
08:45That's what you kept saying.
08:46You want land, so that's why I wanted to bring you here.
08:48I do want land.
08:49This is a little bit over what I was expecting.
08:52It's really got to sell itself to me.
08:53Let's see what it has to offer.
08:54Two-car garage and a beautiful, beautiful stone facade.
08:59Oh, very heavy door.
09:01Oh, my gosh.
09:03Look at the chandelier.
09:04I don't want to get too excited.
09:06I mean, this is kind of like a whole other level of features.
09:09This is what $2.3 million is going to get you.
09:13That's what I keep hearing, the word budget in my head.
09:17That's why I'm saying I don't want to get too excited.
09:19But my heart is racing.
09:21My heart's racing, too.
09:23For a whole different bunch of reasons.
09:24For a whole different reason.
09:25So it's open to the second level over there.
09:28We actually can see all the way through.
09:29So there's like a pass-through over here.
09:31You may see something through the windows here.
09:34Look at the pool.
09:36Look at the fireplace.
09:39Indoor, outdoor flow is really nice.
09:40And you did say you like a pool.
09:41Yes.
09:42In Texas, I feel like a pool is necessary.
09:44I love the way everything is very open.
09:47Think about the kids.
09:48Hey, kids.
09:50I can see them throwing things.
09:51Hopefully not.
09:52Our kids are a little bit crazy, Sarah.
09:54But can we look at this kitchen?
09:56Yeah, yeah, of course.
09:56This is a dream.
10:00A lot of thought has gone into this place.
10:01In fact, for some features that are really interesting.
10:04Check this out.
10:06Oh, wow.
10:07Fully custom tornado shelter.
10:08So if there ever was an emergency,
10:10obviously tornadoes can touch down in this area.
10:12You would be so completely safe here
10:14because they built this in to the foundation.
10:16Oh, wow.
10:16That's a major selling point just for me.
10:18Look how roomy this is, Sarah.
10:20Well, our family could fit in here.
10:21That's what we would do.
10:22Our family, our dogs.
10:23The builder who did this home
10:24wanted to make sure it had absolutely everything,
10:26including an incredible suite for you guys.
10:28Yes, this is beautiful.
10:30Sarah, you could put your own yoga palace in here.
10:33But...
10:33You have high ceilings throughout.
10:34You have massively high doors.
10:36It gives it more of an open feel.
10:38Okay, I like the winding staircase, but...
10:42Getting my leg work out?
10:43Yes.
10:43What do you think?
10:45Okay, I like this.
10:46Thomas, when you look out here...
10:47Oh, wow.
10:48...you don't see anybody.
10:50Nothing but trees.
10:52So you have four bedrooms in total.
10:53Three of them are up here.
10:55Wow.
10:56Oh, wow.
10:57Look at this.
10:59But no matter where you go in this home,
11:01you still have the view.
11:02There's a full deck across the back of the house.
11:04Just spending some time back here.
11:05Oh, that's beautiful.
11:07You can see your whole property from here.
11:09Sarah, look at this.
11:10We could sit out here on our rocking chairs
11:12and watch them play basketball and swim.
11:17Like, this is your own forest out here.
11:19Wow.
11:20Let's get out there.
11:20Let's ride the property.
11:21Sounds good.
11:26I just want Thomas to see this entire 60-acre parcel.
11:30When you're buying a property this big,
11:32you've got to tour the entire acreage.
11:34Maybe it'll be inspirational for him.
11:35He'll think of new ideas.
11:36Or maybe it'll be a reality check
11:38because a property this big comes with a lot of maintenance.
11:41How's this?
11:42Oh, this is gorgeous.
11:43Not a lot of properties where you're going to find this.
11:45You know, one of the things that I'm kind of looking for
11:48is an area that has wildlife in it.
11:49Well, you definitely have everything
11:51you can imagine on this property.
11:52You've got deer, hogs.
11:54This is a property that is right in the thick of it.
11:57I've never had a, I mean, I've had a pond,
11:59but never, nothing like this.
12:00It's always been kind of more of a mud hole.
12:02I know y'all come up on a ranch.
12:04What's it take to maintenance something like this?
12:06You've never had a list.
12:07Yeah, you're on your own here.
12:08I just keep thinking, maintenance, maintenance.
12:11We never want to turn you away from a property
12:13if it's got something on your wish list that's really important.
12:16The challenge is it's all give and take.
12:18Yes.
12:18And it comes with a price.
12:19I want to make good financial decisions,
12:20but at the same time, I don't want to sacrifice
12:22my family's happiness and where we're going to raise our children.
12:26Yeah.
12:26Right.
12:26I want it to be something they can remember their whole life
12:29and always be able to come back to.
12:31Well, and positive memories.
12:33So I know you keep saying you want to have them work the land,
12:37but you have to remember their age and they're not used to that.
12:41So throwing them out here at 15, 16 years old to work land like this,
12:47I don't really know how much positive can come from that at this point.
12:52We're struggling to get them to brush their teeth sometimes.
12:55Oh my God.
12:56That's a good point.
12:57That's a really good point.
12:57I mean, we grew up in it and so we just knew we had to do it.
13:02But then all of a sudden as teenagers to be thrust into it,
13:04that could be tough.
13:05Right.
13:06All right.
13:07We've got one more property for you to consider.
13:09Sounds good.
13:10Let's see it.
13:10You know, property is this close to Dallas with privacy, amenities, land.
13:22They're really hard to find.
13:23They're a high demand.
13:24I feel like this one though has the land and a pond for Thomas.
13:27It's close proximity to the city too.
13:29That's good for Sarah and the kids.
13:34Beautiful little country home on the hill.
13:36So this place was built in 1996.
13:39Okay.
13:39It's had a few renovations done over the years.
13:41I think it's beautiful.
13:42What do you think, Sarah?
13:43It's a cute country home.
13:45It's very vibrant, lots of colors.
13:48This property is 16 acres.
13:49Starting from the bottom of the hill over there where that little pond is.
13:52Okay.
13:53And then it wraps down past this fence here and all the way around.
13:56So it's a beautiful size property.
13:57But I like that you come up the hill and all of a sudden this beautiful little yellow home on the hill.
14:01I like the quarter wrap around porch, you know.
14:04That's kind of ideal on a country home.
14:06That's the dream.
14:07That's the dream.
14:08Pointing towards the east so you can see the sunrise, have your coffee on the swing.
14:13So that's nice.
14:14When we were growing up on the farm and then you sit on the porch and take it all in.
14:18And then we lived in the city for a while.
14:20My dad couldn't adjust so he would just sit and yell at kids that step on the lawn.
14:26So this is 4,100 square feet.
14:28It's four bedrooms, five bathrooms.
14:31The house is listed for $1,475,000.
14:34So it's a little less than the other property.
14:37He's got a smug smile right now.
14:40It doesn't have any outbuildings.
14:42All it has is a house on it.
14:43I think it's more of what we're looking for.
14:46We've got to figure this out together and based on what's best for our family.
14:51Twice the land, half the house.
14:52Yeah.
14:52Wow.
14:55It's cute.
14:56But where's the rest of it?
15:03Oh, wow.
15:05That was beautiful.
15:05How much do you want to lean into the ranch vibes, the wood tones?
15:10Here you're actually getting a lot more antiques as well, which I think is great.
15:14The homeowner collects everything from the floor of a boxcar to something they got out of a European cathedral.
15:19Oh, wow.
15:20Look at that, Sarah.
15:21That's...
15:22I think this is beautiful.
15:24Don't get me wrong.
15:25I know he loves it.
15:26I already know he's in love with it, but...
15:28The cat even loves it.
15:28I just see a lot of work.
15:29Oh, right here.
15:30You got a friend already, see?
15:32Oh, yeah.
15:32That's kind of an omen, huh?
15:34I just see a lot of work.
15:36And you're afraid of that?
15:36Yes, I am afraid of that.
15:38What was the issue when you did that in your last house?
15:40I like to do everything myself.
15:41I don't necessarily like to bring other people in because I know it's going to be done right.
15:44So, it stays under construction constantly because I'm only one man.
15:48I can only do so much.
15:49A lot of what you're seeing that you probably don't like is actually the furniture decor.
15:53You know, like the...
15:54That's not a fixed piece back there, but it feels very rustic.
15:57What do you think of the space, though?
15:58I mean, this is a pretty big open area for that living room.
16:00It is.
16:01It is.
16:01It's huge.
16:02Look at this.
16:03Wow.
16:03And this...
16:04The size of this countertop is really nice.
16:06I do really like that the stove is facing towards everyone.
16:12Yeah.
16:12I mean, it's a great open flow for entertaining.
16:15Your main bedroom suite would be over there.
16:17And then the other bedrooms are all upstairs.
16:18Okay.
16:19This would be your bedroom.
16:21Good size.
16:22I do...
16:23I don't know what to say about this.
16:25How tall are you?
16:26I'm 5'11".
16:27So, even at 5'11", you're going to hit your head on this?
16:29Yeah.
16:29This is too big for the room.
16:31The bed's also too high.
16:32I didn't realize it was actually...
16:34I broke it.
16:34Man.
16:35Yeah.
16:35See, this is why we don't let Drew have nice things.
16:37But the room is a really good size.
16:39The room is a good size.
16:40Lots of nice natural light.
16:43Oh, look at the bathroom.
16:46Farmhouse tub.
16:47Is that sterling silver chandelier?
16:50I really like this.
16:52Wow.
16:52Somebody definitely had an imagination putting this together.
16:56So, here.
16:56Let's head out here and go upstairs.
16:57I actually kind of like the little loft for the books.
16:59Yeah.
16:59I noticed that when we walked in.
17:01That's pretty cool.
17:02I can see Lizzie making her little space up there.
17:06She likes to make her...
17:06I can already see that.
17:07So, this is one of the kids' rooms.
17:09So, now, is this directly above our bedroom?
17:12Yes.
17:13I don't like the fact it's right above our room.
17:15Stomping around and people up here gallivanting.
17:18Keep in mind, though, there are three bedrooms up here.
17:20Okay.
17:22Does the pool table come with the house?
17:24Absolutely.
17:24It's nice to have a secondary living space.
17:28So, this is a studio guest suite.
17:31Okay.
17:32This guest suite, it is definitely a live-in.
17:34This is your typical grandma flat.
17:36I do love an eclectic space.
17:39Head up to the barn.
17:41I do like, actually, back here, how quiet it is.
17:44And you don't see anything but your own property.
17:47This view is gorgeous.
17:48The only neighbor you need to worry about is this little guy over here.
17:51This is Banjo.
17:53Banjo.
17:53He's the guard pig.
17:55Wow.
17:56Oh, yeah.
17:56Okay.
17:57Yeah, you have some space over here for the chickens or whatever you would want.
18:01So, do you want chickens?
18:03I love chickens.
18:05Chickens lay eggs that bring snakes.
18:08And I hate snakes.
18:11Keep the brush down.
18:12Keep the penetrations on the walls and fences and barns all sealed.
18:16You're going to keep the snakes out.
18:17What do you think of the blue barn?
18:20I think when I think country and barn, I think red barn.
18:22Red.
18:22That's usually what I think.
18:24Yeah.
18:24Yeah.
18:25Drew, one thing I do like about this place, too, though, is all the woods and the trees.
18:28You know, it's got, it's probably got wildlife around.
18:31Yeah.
18:32You know, I like the wildlife.
18:33The acreage is smaller, so it's going to be easier to maintain.
18:37But there's plenty of property right out here.
18:41I like the budget.
18:42You know, I like the price.
18:43This property comes with work.
18:45It's not a move in, you're good to go.
18:47The barn could use a little bit of work, and the house definitely needs work if it's going
18:50to fit Sarah's style.
18:51You guys think through what works best, and then I can't wait to hear from you and figure
18:55out what you want to go with.
18:56We do have a lot to discuss.
18:58A lot.
19:00Any more carrots for Banjo?
19:02Okay, let's go back to all the properties that we saw.
19:13The first property.
19:15You know I fell in love with that one.
19:17I'm pretty sure you did, too.
19:19I mean, the guest house is a full house.
19:21I know.
19:21We don't have to have our guests staying in our house.
19:24They can have their own privacy, and we can have our own privacy.
19:27I think I really, really like that about the first house.
19:30It has everything there that we need.
19:33We could definitely make something work for us on that first property.
19:36I'm in the second property, too, the house on 60 acres.
19:39I love that house.
19:42It's more modern.
19:44I think it's more of what we're looking for.
19:47We would be able to move in.
19:49The kids would already have a pool.
19:51There's a basketball court.
19:53It doesn't have any outbuildings.
19:54All it has is a house on it.
19:56Like the brothers said, we could always build down the road.
19:58I love the house, too.
20:00But more than that, I love the land it's on.
20:0360 acres?
20:04I mean, wow.
20:05But it's $2.3 million.
20:07That's quite a bit over the budget I had for myself.
20:10Let's discuss the yellow house, because that one is more to me in our price point.
20:16That's the one I feel comfortable spending the money on.
20:19I do think it has southern charm.
20:22I did like that there was a barn, and that there's the smaller lot.
20:27I mean, Banjo makes it lovable.
20:29You've seen the people.
20:30And Banjo would have to go.
20:31No, Banjo is part of the property.
20:33That comes for a million and a half.
20:35Banjo better come with the property.
20:37But in the end, we've got to figure this out together,
20:40and decide, make a decision based on what's best for our family.
20:44It was a lot of compromise, but she got her castle, and I got my land.
21:02It's wonderful.
21:04It's actually perfect for everything that we need it for.
21:08And we've got the pool, we have a basketball court for the kids.
21:13It really is nice.
21:15We did go over a little bit.
21:18Her little bit and my little bit are a little bit different, okay?
21:22But we compromised, and I fell in love with the land.
21:25She fell in love with the house.
21:26So we ended up spending about $2.3 million on everything,
21:31and it was a little more than I wanted to spend,
21:33but the business is doing great,
21:35and we feel we're in a position where we can effectively afford it.
21:40The peace you get out here,
21:42the sense of knowing that, hey, this is your piece of Texas right here,
21:46and nobody can take that away as long as you do your part.
21:49I don't even know that I fully have comprehended the realization
21:52of what we have here yet, just because of what we came from.
21:5760 acres is a little less than I wanted,
21:59but after mowing it once, I'm okay.
22:02I'm comfortable with it.
22:03I tried to tell him, but it is one of the things
22:07that we had to figure out and compromise on.
22:09Finding the right spot for Sarah and Thomas was definitely tough,
22:13but I think we focused on what mattered.
22:15Lots of land for Thomas and a move-in-ready home for Sarah.
22:19Honestly, we're thrilled because this place gives them
22:22the room to grow and adapt as their needs change.
22:24It's exactly the kind of home we know
22:26that will serve this family for years,
22:28and that's what's exciting for us.
22:28That's what makes it exciting.
22:29Stop punching me!
22:30We're definitely looking forward to the future.
22:34The opportunities are endless.
22:35If you look up at the stars at night here,
22:37you'll see how bright they are.
22:39That's the future for us.
22:40Right now, we live in the city of Mission Hills
22:52in the San Fernando Valley,
22:53and it's a little bit hectic.
22:56We live right down the street
22:57from where the police helicopter takes off.
22:59There's sirens, and we live in, you know,
23:02the cement jungle.
23:03It's a lot.
23:04It's a lot.
23:06Our neighbors hate us right now.
23:07We love refurbishing classic trucks.
23:10We have an RV.
23:11We have vintage trailers and vintage trucks.
23:13And our first time renovating our vintage trailer,
23:15we did it on our front lawn,
23:17and they didn't like that very much.
23:18We got the cops called on us a few times.
23:21Tanya and Miguel work behind the scenes
23:23in Ellie's film industry.
23:24I'm a photographer for about 32 years.
23:27I am a location manager for the film industry.
23:29We met, and it's history.
23:31I said, you want to get married in Vegas?
23:33Let's go.
23:33Let's do it.
23:34And that was it.
23:35We went to Vegas,
23:35and then we partied on the strip all night.
23:38Yep, for free.
23:39I mean, back then,
23:40we didn't have a dime to our names,
23:41so we did a timeshare meeting,
23:44made $250, you know,
23:46recouped the money we spent on the wedding,
23:48and now we're going to buy a ranch.
23:49Yeah, yeah.
23:51But City Life has them craving space,
23:53and they can't wait to dive into country living
23:55with their first home.
23:58Right now, we're renting 1,700 square feet.
24:01What we need is space.
24:03Let me correct you.
24:04Sorry.
24:04We need land.
24:08In just an hour outside of L.A.,
24:10these two have already found
24:12where they want to start their new life.
24:14The town of Agua Dulce,
24:15it's pretty historic,
24:17and it's the cutest little town,
24:19and they used to film a lot of westerns here.
24:20There's Vasquez Rocks where they film
24:22the Flintstones, Star Trek.
24:25Anything that is, like, on Mars
24:26is probably filmed at Vasquez Rocks.
24:28So I'm in love with the place
24:30because, oh, I like the movies.
24:32And the Pacific Crest Trail
24:33actually runs right through it,
24:34and that's the trail that runs
24:36from Canada to Mexico.
24:37And now, hopefully,
24:39hopefully, it'll be our backyard.
24:42I mean, you make the decision to say,
24:44hey, I want to find a ranch.
24:45Let's move to a ranch.
24:46And I may be, once we buy the property,
24:48and once we move in a little bit later,
24:50we're going to be like, uh-oh, what do we do?
24:52It's my first time.
24:53I don't know anything.
24:54I think we just want a little piece of peace
24:59for ourselves that is just ours
25:01to make however we want.
25:02Some place to move around, move on, move on?
25:05Move on up?
25:06Moving up.
25:07Something like that.
25:09This first property is just eight minutes from town.
25:13It's a long dirt road.
25:15It's a secluded, move-in-ready,
25:18three-bedroom ranch with a long dirt road.
25:21You don't see any neighbors
25:26because you have this beautiful enclosure.
25:28I like the trees that frame the whole property.
25:31It is a bumpy road.
25:33Oh, goodness.
25:35Whoa.
25:39Look at this beauty.
25:41Whoa.
25:42Okay, okay.
25:42You have hydros on it?
25:44Now, is this one of your projects?
25:47Yeah, this is one of the too many projects.
25:50Wow.
25:51You guys are into cars.
25:52I know you're also looking for a property
25:54a little bigger than what's in the city.
25:55Yeah, we need the land.
25:56But the road is kind of bumpy.
25:58This road up this way was a little fun.
25:59Oh.
26:00That's going to be rough,
26:01especially for pristine trucks
26:02that don't like to get dirt on them.
26:04I mean, that's ranch life.
26:05If you want to be out this far,
26:07you're not going to have, like,
26:08a paved road everywhere.
26:10But you also get more land, which is nice.
26:13So what's your first impression?
26:14Well, it's...
26:19Well, it's nice.
26:25So this goes all the way back,
26:27all the way down.
26:28You'll see ancillary buildings for storage.
26:30You got all the hill in behind you there.
26:31This is two acres, this property.
26:32Yeah, two acres.
26:33Yeah, you don't really see neighbors,
26:34which is kind of nice.
26:35I like all the trees that they've added throughout, too,
26:37to give you a little privacy.
26:38Oh, yeah.
26:38We're going to go make it.
26:39I mean, this is a nice, big front porch.
26:43Yeah, it's a great porch.
26:44I would love to be two old people
26:46sitting on a rocking chair,
26:48drinking whiskey and wine.
26:50But the view, you know,
26:51what are we going to sit at and look out at?
26:54Each other.
26:55Yeah.
26:56Oh, yeah.
26:57The reason I'm showing you this place
26:58is because you get two acres.
27:00You have tons of privacy.
27:02The house, as well, is in really great shape.
27:04Three bedrooms, three bathrooms,
27:05plus an additional bedroom outside that's detached.
27:08Perfect.
27:08Should we take a look inside?
27:10Yeah.
27:10Let's do it.
27:12Wow.
27:15Thoughts?
27:16Wow.
27:16Look at the kitchen.
27:18Wait, what is that?
27:19A farmhouse thing.
27:19Oh, okay.
27:20You like that?
27:21Yes.
27:21I hate washing dishes,
27:22so it makes it a little more fun.
27:24How about the layout and style of the home?
27:26I like it a lot.
27:27I like the space.
27:28Yeah.
27:29Yeah, it's a big kitchen.
27:30I cook a lot,
27:31so ideally would like an open floor plan
27:34because when it's separated and I'm cooking,
27:36I feel like I'm not part of whatever.
27:38The classic conundrum in the kitchen.
27:40You love when she's cooking?
27:41Yeah, of course.
27:42Yeah.
27:43This is just how they chose to lay it out.
27:45You do have lots more light coming through the back here,
27:48but what they should have really done
27:49is put all of the TV,
27:52and that's up against the far wall,
27:53so this could be completely open.
27:55And if this wall was removed,
27:57it's a very wide footprint.
27:58Yeah.
27:58The one thing to keep in mind, though,
27:59is this is all new material.
28:01They just did this renovation,
28:02so they're also charging for that in the list price.
28:05Yeah.
28:05So if there's a whole lot of stuff you would rip out,
28:08you're actually paying for that newly renovated stuff
28:10and then ripping it out.
28:11But it is 1,869 square feet,
28:14three bedrooms, three bathrooms,
28:16all in the main house.
28:17Yeah, I like that it incorporates
28:18a lot of, like, rustic vibes in it,
28:20like the exposed beams, right?
28:22That's something that you've got a lot.
28:23Well, even with the kitchen
28:24and the wood cabinets in the kitchen,
28:26it feels like it's updated,
28:28but it still has that beautiful country vibe.
28:30Yeah.
28:30We were both have been born and raised in the city,
28:33but I feel like I just,
28:36we just need that, like,
28:38be in touch with nature a little bit.
28:39You know why we're so tall?
28:41We grew up in nature.
28:42Yeah.
28:43We grew up on a ranch.
28:43Nothing to squeeze us in and hold us down.
28:46We just continue.
28:46So there's something to keep in mind.
28:47You might gain a few inches if you move.
28:49Yeah.
28:50As long as it's up and not.
28:53How often are you entertaining?
28:55How often are you bringing people over?
28:56Do you see, if you adjusted this a little bit,
28:59do you see this being something
29:00that would work for you?
29:01Yeah.
29:01I have a huge family.
29:02Most of Miguel's family's in Puerto Rico,
29:04so we do host a lot of out-of-town guests all the time.
29:08Somebody's always at our house coming for food.
29:10Well, there is a little bonus outside,
29:12which is something to see as well,
29:13because if you do have a lot of family
29:14and friends coming to stay,
29:15you need more bedrooms.
29:19It's pretty.
29:20It's so peaceful.
29:22Right?
29:23Isn't that, let's take a moment
29:24to just appreciate why you're moving out of the city.
29:27Take a deep breath in.
29:29It's quiet.
29:31No police helicopter.
29:33Yeah.
29:33This whole area should be the main homestead.
29:37Oh, yeah.
29:37And the fact that you've got a guest house
29:39is just an added bonus.
29:41The breathe and everything, the space.
29:43Yeah.
29:43That's nice.
29:44And now I want to know the list price.
29:46I know your max budget is $850,000.
29:48This is listed for $830,000.
29:51Okay.
29:52And that's what they're asking,
29:53which means we could probably get it down
29:54a little bit more,
29:55give you that flexibility
29:57to do some renovations to make it perfect.
29:59It's our first time buying a ranch,
30:01so we're trusting in you guys to kind of guide us.
30:04Does $20,000 sound like enough
30:06to do all the work we would have?
30:07Fortunately, renovation costs out here
30:09a lot better than if you were right
30:11in the heart of the city.
30:12Yeah.
30:12So you're going to have, you know, flexibility.
30:14When you own a ranch,
30:15I hope you're both handy
30:16because there's always something to fix.
30:18There's always something to work on.
30:19That's something you have to keep in mind.
30:20It's my first time.
30:21I don't know anything.
30:22I'm just learning.
30:24They told me, like,
30:25I have to be handy.
30:27Handy?
30:27A handyman or something like that?
30:29Does it make you nervous?
30:30A lot.
30:30This is going to be hard to me
30:32because I'm a silly guy.
30:34Actually, this will be a great ranch test for you.
30:37Yeah.
30:37Have you split wood before?
30:39Never.
30:40You've never chopped wood?
30:41Never, never.
30:42They don't have campfires in Puerto Rico?
30:43It's hot over there.
30:44Little tip.
30:45On a ranch, you've got spiders,
30:47scorpions, snakes, all that stuff here.
30:49So if there's ever resting wood
30:51you're going to pick up,
30:52give it a little kick before you pick it up.
30:54Something will scurry away.
30:57Biggest thing is,
30:58don't over swing and hit your shin.
31:00Super easy.
31:01Just like that.
31:02Give it a shot.
31:03Careful.
31:03Watch your leg.
31:04It's on a bit of an angle,
31:05so just come closer.
31:06Whoa, whoa, whoa.
31:07Yep.
31:09Nice.
31:10Who's your daddy?
31:11We can buy a ranch.
31:12Have you ever seen him so sexy?
31:15This is how my mom would do it.
31:16My mom would go like this.
31:17Your mom?
31:18Yeah, she would come out here.
31:19She would start it,
31:20and then she would turn it over,
31:21and then just tap the back like that.
31:22I'll probably chop my finger off somehow.
31:24Here.
31:25Still closer.
31:26Oh.
31:26Closer.
31:27Closer, closer, closer.
31:28Nice.
31:29Nice.
31:30You're questioning yourself.
31:31And even stuck it in the wood.
31:33You guys don't chop like city people,
31:34so that's good.
31:35There you go.
31:35But I know one thing coming out here
31:37to the country that was very important
31:38is having lots of storage,
31:40so I think you're going to like
31:41what they have set up.
31:43Oh, look at the view.
31:44Wow.
31:45Isn't that nice?
31:45I know.
31:45That's what it's all about.
31:46Yeah.
31:47And Miguel, a shot.
31:50I'm in love.
31:52With secure storage all the way around.
31:54Yeah.
31:55Two containers on the sides,
31:56also on the back, double height.
31:58Finally a garage.
32:00Yeah, I need a lifter,
32:01but yeah, we can do something
32:02and I'll run for the trucks over there.
32:04This is a plus.
32:06And the view.
32:06Look at the view.
32:07Yeah.
32:08I mean, I feel like I'm at peace already
32:10just being here.
32:11Just being in touch with nature,
32:13I'm really big on that.
32:14Like, we've always liked to go hiking
32:15and camping and stuff like that,
32:17so being able to, like,
32:18have this all the time is really nice.
32:21You like to go camping,
32:22but you've never chopped campfire wood.
32:25No, we just buy it.
32:26No, you just buy it.
32:27We buy it, Chuck.
32:28You're so city.
32:28Chuck, you're so city, guys.
32:29So city.
32:30All that space out there
32:32and then what you see here,
32:33is this enough?
32:34Yeah, we're going to,
32:35this can be the shop
32:36and then we can store the truck outside.
32:38Yeah.
32:38Yeah.
32:39I think it's great for, like,
32:40the day-to-day,
32:42but in the truck community,
32:43they do a lot of truck meets,
32:45a lot of car shows and stuff,
32:46so ideally we would love to host
32:47something of our own
32:48on our ranch property,
32:50and we're talking anywhere
32:51from 100 to 500 trucks.
32:53Like, 100 trucks, that's crazy.
32:55No, 350.
32:56You're joking, right?
32:58You can have up to 350 trucks?
32:59Oh, yeah, easy.
33:00350 vehicles.
33:01You're not hosting
33:02a 350-person car show
33:05at your house, are you?
33:07I mean, we'd like to.
33:08That's what I wanted to.
33:09If that's the case,
33:10then it does feel like
33:11two acres might be a little tight.
33:13Yeah.
33:14The way it's laid out,
33:15I feel like it's distributed
33:17all over, you know,
33:18so you don't get a feel
33:19that it's actually two acres.
33:20It doesn't feel like
33:21as big as it actually is.
33:22I mean, you could fit
33:23100 cars in here.
33:24You could fit a couple
33:25hundred cars.
33:25It's just, don't throw
33:27this one out,
33:27because I think there's
33:28still a lot of opportunity here.
33:29I like that it's not too far
33:30from the city as well,
33:31but I mean, we have another
33:32property to show you
33:33that is a larger property.
33:34I think you're going to like
33:35the comparison between the two.
33:36Drew picked the next one,
33:37but just don't forget mine.
33:38No.
33:38I feel like this is a good one.
33:39We won't, we won't.
33:41And away we go.
33:43The next property
33:47is five minutes out of town.
33:49It has more land,
33:50but it is a fixer-upper,
33:51which makes it more affordable.
33:53Exactly.
33:54I just hope it has enough space,
33:55though, for the big car events
33:56they want to host.
34:02This is it.
34:03This is it.
34:04Okay, number two.
34:05Yeah, this is almost five acres.
34:07It goes all the way back.
34:08Nice, huge property here.
34:10Keep in mind, with your business,
34:11you want to restore cars
34:13and everything.
34:13This is commercial zoning.
34:14You could literally
34:15open up a shop here.
34:16Yeah, but you are
34:18across the street
34:18from a movie ranch,
34:21which is where they rent
34:22trailers out to the movie business,
34:23and that means trucks
34:24are coming through here
34:25all day, every day.
34:26It's very close to the road,
34:28very close to the highway.
34:29Yeah, I know that's not optimal,
34:31and I'm not pretending
34:32like it is,
34:32but you're getting over
34:33double the acreage here.
34:35Right.
34:35The house is a little smaller,
34:36but there's room to expand,
34:37there's room to grow.
34:38Maybe we can build, like,
34:39big fans or something, right?
34:40I hope it's soundproof inside.
34:41That doesn't help me,
34:45by the way.
34:46I'm trying to upsell
34:47them on the house.
34:48I just want to point out
34:49the property I showed you,
34:50serenity.
34:51Right.
34:52No traffic, no noise.
34:53You even said
34:54it was peaceful and quiet.
34:56And also, this comes in
34:57towards the bottom
34:57of your budget.
34:58This is listed for $750,000.
35:00Wow.
35:01And we have a view
35:01off the back of the house.
35:02We don't have to go
35:03to the workshop to get the view.
35:04Right.
35:04So come on in.
35:05I like the rocking chairs
35:06in the front.
35:06You get twice the land,
35:08half the house.
35:09Yeah.
35:13Wow.
35:14It's cute.
35:16It's like a tiny house.
35:17But where's the rest of it?
35:18I know.
35:18A thousand square feet.
35:20That square footage
35:21gets used up pretty quickly.
35:23Do you like the exposed wood
35:24and some of the different details?
35:25I like the old-style,
35:27kind of rustic look,
35:29but I don't know
35:30about everything else
35:31because it's kind of weird.
35:33I mean, I love
35:33that it's an open floor plan,
35:35but there's not much of it.
35:38Yes, that's it.
35:39And I always wanted
35:40an L-shaped kitchen,
35:41but isn't the L-shaped kitchen
35:44supposed to be the other way?
35:46Yeah.
35:47The other way.
35:48Yeah.
35:48This will be the new range.
35:50The inverted L kitchen.
35:52Is there a dishwasher?
35:52No, it doesn't look like it.
35:54If you had the dishwasher open,
35:55you wouldn't even be able
35:56to get your cabinets open.
35:56No, I don't think
35:57the dishwasher could open.
35:58So this is your main bathroom.
35:59This is the family bathroom.
36:00Fridges half covered in here.
36:02In here.
36:04This is a bedroom over here.
36:07And then the main bedroom suite's
36:08tucked around
36:08with another bathroom
36:09in behind.
36:10Yeah.
36:10Again, it's not ideal,
36:11but in reality,
36:12you're not getting this property
36:13just for the house.
36:14It's for the land.
36:164.45 acres.
36:17It's nice and big.
36:18You guys look a little
36:19reserved in here,
36:20but I think what's going
36:21to win you over
36:21is the back.
36:22Walk out on that balcony there,
36:23you're going to see
36:24killer view.
36:25It's good.
36:25Great space.
36:27Oh, wow.
36:29That's what I took.
36:30Holy cow.
36:31This is the view.
36:32As far as you can see,
36:33that's your property back there.
36:34Yeah, wow.
36:35The nearest neighbor is
36:36is like way over there.
36:38This way,
36:40not ideal.
36:42Uh-huh.
36:42This way, perfect.
36:44But keep in mind,
36:45there's no existing garage
36:46on the property.
36:47In the other place,
36:48we have a shop already.
36:49Yeah.
36:50So you have to think
36:51about it on the kitchen.
36:52No, you have to think
36:53about that part.
36:54That's for you to think,
36:55not me.
36:55Yeah, but you have to think
36:57about the proximity
36:58to the highway.
36:59Right.
36:59Well, the good thing is
37:00the land is all usable.
37:02You have a ton of flat spaces
37:04that you could develop.
37:05I think we need to get
37:06down there and walk it
37:06just so you can see
37:07how far back this goes.
37:12Wow.
37:12How many cars do you think
37:15you could park?
37:16I don't know.
37:17About 500, right?
37:18We could definitely do
37:20what we want to do here.
37:21But you were saying
37:22you wanted something
37:23that could be an event space.
37:24Right.
37:24So you have,
37:25and the gravel's already here.
37:26This is all parking.
37:27Yeah, this is good.
37:28That's all event.
37:29Yeah.
37:30This is your convention space.
37:31Let me see.
37:32Let me see.
37:32Exactly.
37:33I mean, this is huge.
37:34I really wanted to show
37:35you this property
37:35because I get a gut feeling here.
37:38It's quiet,
37:39and you have 4.45 acres.
37:41You can't even see
37:42the back property line
37:43from here.
37:44For me, the only bad thing
37:45is the house.
37:46It's so tiny.
37:47Well, I mean,
37:48think about it.
37:48Really, it's the road
37:49because the road
37:50is the only thing
37:50you can't change, right?
37:52But the house...
37:53We can build another house.
37:54Exactly.
37:56So it's,
37:56do we go to a house
37:57that's moving ready
37:58with less land
38:01and compromise there,
38:02or do we come here
38:03with a house
38:03that we don't love,
38:05but we have
38:07the space outside?
38:09Stroll around.
38:10Yeah.
38:10Let's see.
38:11I want to go.
38:11I want to see
38:12everything through.
38:12Hiking, hiking.
38:17This property
38:18is a good deal.
38:19It's a great location.
38:20It's not too far
38:21from the city.
38:21You're getting 4.45 acres.
38:24I'm sure this is intimidating
38:25for people
38:25who have only lived
38:26in the city,
38:27but they have a dream
38:28of the lifestyle they want,
38:29and I think this property
38:30is where that dream
38:31can come true.
38:32I know they like
38:32the peace and quiet
38:33of the property
38:34I showed them.
38:34I know that Miguel loved
38:35the shop was already there.
38:37The house is bigger.
38:38The land on this property
38:39is definitely better.
38:43I feel like they might
38:44still go for the privacy,
38:46the privacy
38:46and the bigger house.
38:47To have an acreage
38:48like this,
38:49I mean,
38:49I remember being back
38:50on the ranch growing up
38:51and this shaped who I am.
38:53You know,
38:53it really does make me
38:54want to leave the city
38:54and get a ranch too.
38:55It's so peaceful here.
39:03Look at this view.
39:04It's so beautiful.
39:05So I think we have
39:06a lot to think about.
39:09Like what?
39:09We have two tough choices.
39:12Like what?
39:13The first house,
39:14the mountainside.
39:15I love that kitchen.
39:16I love the farmhouse sink.
39:17What I don't like,
39:18and I know I'm going
39:19to hear you complaining
39:20all the time,
39:21is the dirt road
39:22all the way up.
39:24I like the view.
39:25I like the kitchen
39:26is ready for you.
39:27Yeah.
39:28Inside the house,
39:28everything is perfect.
39:29I mean,
39:30it has a guest house, right?
39:31Ah, the guest house, yeah.
39:31It's my family
39:32came from Puerto Rico.
39:33Yeah.
39:33They can stay there.
39:34Yeah.
39:35But I mean,
39:35the second home we saw,
39:37it's right by the road.
39:38So there,
39:39we lack that little bit
39:40of privacy
39:40that the other one
39:41kind of gives us.
39:42But I really love
39:44the deck of this house.
39:45Yeah.
39:45The view.
39:46Yeah.
39:47And the space,
39:48like you look out
39:49and it's all the space.
39:50Whereas the mountain,
39:51you don't feel like
39:52you have all of that
39:53space.
39:54The roadside gives us
39:55the space to do
39:56the car shows,
39:57each end at the ranch.
39:57But we're going to have
39:58to do, you know,
40:00a crash course
40:01on ranch life.
40:03It's a lot of work.
40:04Both have their pros
40:05and cons,
40:06but no matter
40:07how you look at it,
40:08this is just
40:09a beautiful place.
40:10It's going to be
40:11a beautiful place to live.
40:12They're both peaceful,
40:13quiet.
40:14Blue skies.
40:15You know,
40:15we're away from
40:17the city.
40:18I can really see
40:19our future here.
40:20I can't wait
40:21for the ranch life.
40:22Hashtag ranch life.
40:25That's a lot of life.
40:26That's good.
40:32We decided to go with
40:34the roadside ranch.
40:38It feels great.
40:39You can feel the space,
40:41the quietness,
40:42everything is,
40:43oh my God.
40:44I'm in love with this.
40:45Do you miss the city at all?
40:53Do we miss the city?
40:54Do you miss the city?
40:55No, I don't miss the city.
40:57I don't miss the city.
40:58I'm going to go
40:59and do some
40:59gardening stuff.
41:01The house isn't as big
41:02as we wished it would be,
41:03but we use the outdoors more.
41:04And then Miguel built a bar
41:06underneath the deck,
41:07so that's a super fun place
41:08that we incorporate
41:09the outside space with.
41:10You know,
41:14being outside
41:14is really what we needed.
41:16We went with the smaller house
41:17knowing that we were
41:19going to have guests
41:19over and whatnot,
41:20but, you know,
41:21it's nothing that a trailer
41:22can't fix,
41:23and we also have
41:24tons of trailers.
41:25The brothers, I think,
41:26were super helpful, right?
41:28They kind of prepared us
41:29for the hard work
41:30that it was going to be,
41:30so I think that helped
41:32in us, like,
41:33being mentally prepared
41:34when we stepped
41:35into the situation.
41:36Hello?
41:36Ranch Life isn't for everybody.
41:41You have to do
41:41a lot of things.
41:42There's always a surprise here.
41:44You know,
41:44we experienced rain and snow.
41:46We didn't know
41:47that some of the gravel
41:48was going to end up
41:48washing away
41:49until Miguel was learning
41:50how to grade himself.
41:52Miguel's building his workshop.
41:54Still a work in progress?
41:57It's a work in progress,
41:58little by little.
41:59Little by little, yeah.
42:00The roof is missing still.
42:01Yeah.
42:02And I think I definitely
42:03miss Central Air.
42:04Our solution is
42:06we put in a swimming pool.
42:11So we did Miguel's birthday
42:13slash truck show.
42:14We had somewhere around
42:16350 trucks,
42:20over 3,000 people,
42:21which is what we were scared of.
42:23It was a huge success.
42:24We had so much fun.
42:25Everybody loved the ranch,
42:27and they're hoping
42:28that we do it again.
42:29For me, it was like a dream
42:30because you have
42:31a lot of rain.
42:32They want to share
42:34the trucks, the parts,
42:35everything, so
42:36we just have fun.
42:38So to be honest,
42:39we don't feel it.
42:40The work here,
42:41you just go and do it.
42:43Enjoy the moment, you know?
42:45It's actually, like,
42:46come naturally to us,
42:47I think, you know?
42:49Miguel just put down
42:50the camera
42:50and picked up the shovel.
42:52Like, it's kind of crazy
42:53that it just happened
42:54so easily.
42:56It's like this is where
42:56we were meant to be
42:57all along.
