00:00:00You
00:01:00The priest is here to give you the last rites.
00:01:07I'm sorry.
00:01:09Father.
00:01:15In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we're ready.
00:01:30A good writer can make the mind imagine.
00:01:36A great writer can make the mind believe.
00:01:39It's strange where inspiration to create comes from.
00:01:44For some, it comes from the challenges of everyday life.
00:01:48For others, it comes from a much darker place.
00:01:51The fear of death.
00:01:53Living with it.
00:01:55Tasting it.
00:01:56Smelling it.
00:01:58Knowing exactly where and when it will happen.
00:02:00As a writer, I find it quite intriguing how other people's destiny can play such a great
00:02:11role as to how a life will end.
00:02:15To be continued...

00:03:15To be continued...
00:03:45As I read back through the final pages of my book, what I find most interesting is not
00:03:52the facts, the details, or speculations, but rather the people I knew, or thought I knew.
00:04:04My story begins in a church in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, Fall, 1991.
00:04:31I'm ready to leave, Linda.
00:04:33I need your help.
00:04:35Bill, you have a son.
00:04:36You have a wife that's been faithful to you.
00:04:39I think you should reconsider this.
00:04:41Look, I don't need you to make me feel guilty.
00:04:44Do you understand?
00:04:45I came here bearing my soul to you.
00:04:47Now look, I said I want to leave Linda, and I don't want to hear anything out of you, not a word.
00:04:52I'm a very powerful man, and I can have you out of the priesthood if I want it.
00:04:56Father Lucifer T. Powers, you have been found guilty of murder in the first degree, and you are hereby sentenced to death by electrocution in Tennessee State Prison.
00:05:14Date of execution is hereby set for October 31st, 1993.
00:05:21When I met Christy, or Angel as her patrons called her, she was a dancer.
00:05:27She was the most beautiful creature I'd ever seen.
00:05:30The absolute object of my desire.
00:05:33Unfortunately, the object of a lot of men's desires.
00:05:36Hey guys, am I late?
00:05:50Angel, who's that that dropped you off?
00:05:53None of your business, Amber.
00:05:55One of your regulars.
00:05:57It's WordBot.
00:05:58He's just a friend.
00:06:00Nice car.
00:06:01For a friend.
00:06:03Do you have any more about being friends like that?
00:06:05Wouldn't you like to know?
00:06:12Angel?
00:06:13Where the fuck have you been?
00:06:15You're up, let's go!
00:06:17Quit dicking around with that cigarette, Amber, and get ready.
00:06:20How you guys doing tonight?
00:06:21We've got something you're gonna enjoy coming up next.
00:06:23Angel's heavenly delight.
00:06:25Put a couple of body parts together, gentlemen.
00:06:27Start your engines as Angel does that sexual thing.
00:06:35Through announce it.
00:06:37Soo..
00:06:39Maybe you were going to kill me, we.
00:06:43You know, Lew.
00:06:45help me to...?
00:06:47I've got a way from you
00:06:48Turn up in long.
00:06:48I know like what life she is.
00:06:49It's so easy.
00:06:50With it.
00:06:51Put somewhere in your life.
00:06:52I doch, you and me has some point.
00:06:53I do it.
00:06:54I think of something you're going to do.
00:06:56You know, Amber, some of us have better things to do on Halloween.
00:07:25Enjoy.
00:07:32Christy was the victim of an abusive father.
00:07:35The road she chose was paved long before she had control of her own destiny.
00:07:40Her hard outer shell was nothing more than a shield, to protect the heart of an innocence lost in her childhood.
00:07:55You've been home long?
00:08:12Nah, I just got home.
00:08:15It sucked.
00:08:17Yeah, that's okay though.
00:08:19They're coming over when?
00:08:22Around 12?
00:08:24Okay.
00:08:25Well, drive careful, okay?
00:08:32Hey, baby.
00:08:35Aw, look at you.
00:08:38I missed you so much.
00:08:41Look at us, the two on Halloween.
00:08:44What are we doing?
00:08:45I thought mommy's gonna take your picture, okay?
00:08:48Stay there.
00:08:50Hey, baby, where'd you go?
00:08:55Hello?
00:08:56Did you retreat?
00:08:57Is this what you wanted?
00:08:58Throw me out of the club.
00:08:59Where the fuck do you think you are?
00:09:01What'd you think you're gonna throw that off of me?
00:09:02You get up!
00:09:03Get the fuck up!
00:09:04Shut up.
00:09:05Shut up!
00:09:18Shut up!
00:09:19What the fuck?
00:09:20Did you think you're gonna throw that off of me?
00:09:22You get up!
00:09:23You get the fucked up!
00:09:25Shut up!
00:09:28Shut up!
00:09:30Shut up!
00:09:32No.
00:09:33No.
00:09:34No.
00:09:53Fuck me.
00:10:02No.
00:10:23Michael, get off me.
00:10:25God, are you strange.
00:10:27Boorish shit.
00:10:28Don't have-
00:10:32Number one, Brooke Sherriss, this is the emergency.
00:10:46Hey, Christy, I'm gonna get out of here, baby, alright?
00:10:49What'd you turn the lights off in here for?
00:10:51Would you fall back to sleep on me already?
00:10:58Hey, listen, baby.
00:10:59I'm gonna get to taping everything and get out of here, alright?
00:11:02And, uh, let me see, mask.
00:11:05I hope I got everything.
00:11:07Hey, baby?
00:11:08Baby.
00:11:13Did you hear that?
00:11:14Christy.
00:11:16Fucking God.
00:11:17Christy, wake up!
00:11:22God.
00:11:26Where is the fucking tape, Christy?
00:11:29The tape.
00:11:30Freeze!
00:11:32What the fuck?
00:11:33God!
00:11:42Got one going out of the back!
00:11:43Got one down!
00:11:50Ned, I'm going after him!
00:11:59Freeze, motherfucker!
00:12:00Freeze, motherfucker!
00:12:07Get him out of the side!
00:12:08You go and get him, I get the car!
00:12:09Get him out of the car!
00:12:10Get him out of the car!
00:12:39Come on, come on!
00:12:41Come on, bitch!
00:12:42Come on, bitch!
00:12:54238!
00:12:55In pursuit of one Mel White.
00:12:56Looks like 73 Chevy Nova heading southbound, the market's drive.
00:13:01Stay out of! Stay out of!
00:13:02Possibly armed.
00:13:05Come to Nashville!
00:13:06My name is Michael Rain, I'm a struggling songwriter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
00:13:13Believe me, it's tough finding a job in your hometown when people know you're on probation.
00:13:18They never quite look at you the same, or trust you.
00:13:22I thought moving to Nashville would give me a chance to start over.
00:13:26I was wrong.
00:13:28Car left, cut him off. Looks like he's headed for the interstate.
00:13:36Did it make you feel sorry for me?
00:13:46Step away from the vehicle! Do it now!
00:13:48Did it make you like me?
00:13:50Right there, right there, right there!
00:13:54Let me see some hands!
00:13:56Step away from the vehicle!
00:13:58Keep him up!
00:14:00Get him, motherfucker!
00:14:02Put your fucking hands in there now!
00:14:06He's got a gun!
00:14:07He's got a gun!
00:14:08He's got a gun!
00:14:09I got him! Yeah, I got him!
00:14:10Hit him up!
00:14:11Hit him up!
00:14:12I got him!
00:14:15Boys, don't do it!
00:14:18Did you really believe I was innocent?
00:14:20Help! Help! Help!
00:14:27Hey.
00:14:29Come here.
00:14:30Governor, your wife is here.
00:14:33Bill, I'm sorry to come rushing down here, but when I woke up, you were gone.
00:14:39And when I called, no one answered.
00:14:41I was worried to death. Where were you?
00:14:43Look, Linda. Everything is fine.
00:14:47Just a little drive.
00:14:49I've got a lot on my mind.
00:14:51I'm sorry.
00:14:53Bill, you've been so good with David and me the past few months.
00:14:56You're not starting to...
00:15:03What the hell, too?
00:15:05Yes, ma'am.
00:15:09Could we, uh, have some time alone, please?
00:15:11Yes.
00:15:15Michael, you oughta be glad you're still alive.
00:15:17Now, listen to me.
00:15:18A guilty plea will help your case.
00:15:21If you plead guilty, they may dismiss the death penalty and give you a life sentence.
00:15:25You may even get paroled.
00:15:28Death penalty, Bateman.
00:15:29What the fuck are you talking about? I'm telling you I'm innocent.
00:15:33Michael.
00:15:34Michael, they found you at the scene of the crime.
00:15:36The lab test proved that was your sperm in that girl,
00:15:38not to mention the videotape left in the camera that shows you killing Christy.
00:15:43What videotape are you talking about?
00:15:45There's no videotape in that camera when I left there.
00:15:47The videotape was still in there, Michael.
00:15:48And why didn't you tell me your real name was James Michael Bolchak,
00:15:51and that you had a prior arrest record for assault and skipping parole?
00:15:55How the hell do you expect me to help you if you're not even gonna tell me the truth?
00:15:58My assault in Pittsburgh was bullshit.
00:16:00Right.
00:16:02And second of all, I'm telling you right now,
00:16:03this is someone's idea of a sick joke because I didn't kill her.
00:16:06I'm telling you it's a sick joke.
00:16:08Joke?
00:16:09This is no joke. These people are serious.
00:16:11The news media's been all over this thing.
00:16:13These people want to see you fry, Michael.
00:16:15The governor wants to see you fry.
00:16:17He's out there spouting off about tougher laws for the next election.
00:16:20Now, you listen to me.
00:16:21If you don't start helping me, these people are gonna get their way.
00:16:23Do you understand me?
00:16:26Yeah.
00:16:27Good.
00:16:28Now, I want you to really think about that guilty plea.
00:16:33Sleep on it.
00:16:34I'll see you in the morning.
00:16:35Hello, Michael.
00:16:46Won't you come in?
00:16:47Hello Michael, won't you come in? I've been expecting you.
00:17:08Have a seat Michael. How have you been? Tell me, how's your mother? Tell her I said hello.
00:17:35Have a pleasant execution.
00:17:44Hello Michael. Guess who? Guess who? Did you really enjoy killing me? Maybe you'll remember that.
00:17:58Shut up, bitch! Don't say another fucking word!
00:18:05Will the defendant please rise? This court will come to order. Michael Rain, the jury has reached a decision in your case.
00:18:14You have been found guilty of murder in the first degree in the deliberate and willful death of Christy Richards.
00:18:23You're hereby sentenced to death by electrocution in the Tennessee State Prison.
00:18:30Date of execution to be set.
00:18:32Bailiff, you may remove the prisoner. This court is adjourned.
00:18:36Judge, listen to me. Judge, listen to me. Judge! No! Judge, I'm telling you I'm innocent! I didn't kill her! Listen to me!
00:18:45The shadow of a doubt. All my lawyer had to do was prove to that jury that I was innocent beyond the shadow of a doubt.
00:19:10The shadow of a doubt.
00:19:11The shadow of a doubt is a doubt.
00:19:17The shadow of a doubt.
00:20:20I'm Corporal Benjamin Green.
00:20:21Come over here and stick your hands through these bars and I'll take those cuffs off of you.
00:20:30Now, around here we serve breakfast at 6 a.m.
00:20:33Your stuff's already been searched and delivered to your cell.
00:20:40Now, we post shower times once a day.
00:20:47You're allowed one hour of exercise every day.
00:20:51If you need to go to the infirmary or anything, you better see Corporal Spencer or myself.
00:20:56Now, the warden's gonna come around tomorrow, boy, and he's gonna talk to you about the rules.
00:21:00Now, I guarantee you, if you don't follow his rules, you'll get one month of solitary confinement.
00:21:05Understand me?
00:21:06Yes, sir.
00:21:07Okay.
00:21:08What's your name?
00:21:10Well, hell, man, I'm Buford Danker.
00:21:12I burnt my house down with my own wife and kids in it and would have gotten away with it.
00:21:17But the fucking cops caught me or else I'd have been long goddamn gone.
00:21:21What?
00:21:24I said, what'd you do, boy?
00:21:26Talk to me, punk.
00:21:28First of all, Danker, I ain't nothing like you.
00:21:33Second of all, I don't believe that's any of your fucking business now, is it?
00:21:36Hoo-hoo, pretty thing.
00:21:37Talk to me, motherfucker.
00:21:40Tell me all about your goddamn innocence.
00:21:42You innocent too, man?
00:21:45Man, we all innocent.
00:21:46Shut the fuck up.
00:21:48I'm not talking to you, brother.
00:21:49Fuck you, Danker, you white trash piece of shit.
00:21:54I'm Tyrone, man.
00:21:55What's your name?
00:22:00Michael Rain.
00:22:04Oh, yeah, Michael Rain, the videotape murderer.
00:22:08Rain, you're as stupid as that fucking Redford down there, man.
00:22:11He come back from now, I'm a goddamn hero,
00:22:14went in the convenience store and killed the Goop family in cold blood,
00:22:17and then got it on fucking video.
00:22:19Can you believe that shit?
00:22:21Can't wait till they fry your ass.
00:22:23Ooh, you got me shaking, motherfucker.
00:22:26I ain't scared of dying or frying.
00:22:28Who's in the other cells?
00:22:31Yeah, there's only two more.
00:22:32The rest are empty.
00:22:33They've been bringing them up left and right.
00:22:36Yeah, one of some young kids shot a cop.
00:22:41They shot him back, fucked him up real good.
00:22:44He turned real religious in here, though.
00:22:46Now, he don't say much.
00:22:48And the other one, oh, man, you don't want to know about him.
00:22:51Who is it?
00:22:52Lucifer T. Powell's the preacher, man.
00:22:55Seems he killed some little altar boy and left him in the bottom of his church.
00:22:59Yeah, Lucifer.
00:23:00He's always quoting the Bible, something about revenge or vengeance he's going to get on the governor.
00:23:04Where do they got Lucifer right now?
00:23:08Well, he's in solitary, man.
00:23:09Seems like he stays there most of the time.
00:23:12Guards are scared to death of him.
00:23:15Yo, pretty thing.
00:23:16Lucky you got here fucking late today.
00:23:18Because the warden and his Nazi redneck boy was going to give you one of them long prison showers.
00:23:26If you know what I mean.
00:23:28Yeah, man.
00:23:29Everyone gets one sooner or later.
00:23:33It's a little hands-on discipline, motherfucker.
00:23:36They get to know you real good.
00:23:39All right, everybody.
00:23:41Lights out.
00:23:43Good night.
00:23:45I'll be dreaming about you.
00:23:50The first night spent on death row is the most horrifying.
00:23:54When all gets quiet around you and the thoughts come creeping in.
00:23:59Visions of a life behind bars.
00:24:01Guards watching your every move.
00:24:04Demoralizing you.
00:24:06And especially images of the final seconds ticking away.
00:24:10Tick.
00:24:10Top.
00:24:12Tick.
00:24:12Top.
00:24:13Tick.
00:24:14Top.
00:24:15Tick.
00:24:16Top.
00:24:21My name's Sergeant Wyandell.
00:24:23I'm second in command here and that's all you need to know.
00:24:27Now, front and center, boy.
00:24:29It's shower time.
00:24:30You mind if I finish eating first?
00:24:34Doctor, it looks like you're done eating now, son.
00:24:38Like I said, front and center.
00:24:40Spencer.
00:24:41Morning, sir.
00:24:42Morning, sir.
00:24:43Well, what have we here?
00:24:46Just preparing the prisoner for his shower, sir.
00:24:48Oh, no, not today.
00:24:49Sergeant, no.
00:24:50See, it seems that inmate Rain here already has a visitor.
00:24:55A woman.
00:24:57Jessica Foster.
00:24:59Says she works for the governor.
00:25:00Says she's working on some kind of book.
00:25:02Says Governor Roberts has given her full permission to interview this inmate.
00:25:07Yes, sir.
00:25:08Should I take the prisoner to the interview cage, sir?
00:25:10Yes, that'll be fine, Sergeant.
00:25:11By the way, Michael, my name is Warden Leonard Felcher, and I think someday very soon you and
00:25:22me and Sergeant Wyandell should sit down together and go over the prison rules.
00:25:29I run a very strict institution.
00:25:33I think you'll find me a firm man.
00:25:37Firm, but fair.
00:25:40I'd like to get to know all my inmates personally.
00:25:44I don't suppose we'll be having any trouble from you, will we, uh, inmate Rain, while you're
00:25:49here?
00:25:50No, sir!
00:25:51Good.
00:25:52Once again, Miss Foster, I must ask you not to provoke this man in any way.
00:25:59Now, we're dealing with some, some extremely dangerous prisoners down here.
00:26:08And at no point do you try to make any physical contact with this inmate.
00:26:14If you do, this interview's terminated immediately.
00:26:20I'm sorry about this morning, Rain.
00:26:22I was a little rough on you.
00:26:24It must be the coffee.
00:26:26I wouldn't know, Wyandell.
00:26:27I'm still wearing most of mine.
00:26:28Get that right.
00:26:30All right, I just got to check quick.
00:26:31Make sure you ain't holding nothing.
00:26:33Yeah, like what?
00:26:35Get my back pocket quick.
00:26:36I think there's a fucking sharp plastic spork back there.
00:26:39Hey, you never know.
00:26:40You could have drugs, knife, hell, anything.
00:26:42All right, open up.
00:26:44Why?
00:26:45Just checking.
00:26:46For what?
00:26:47For these.
00:26:48Hey!
00:26:49Get back my fucking teeth!
00:26:50You never know.
00:26:50You might just be hiding something up there.
00:26:52Wyandell, give me...
00:26:53Shut up, Rain!
00:26:55It's such a shame.
00:26:56She's so pretty, too.
00:26:58Damn, she is pretty.
00:27:03Open up, Trala Queen.
00:27:08What's wrong?
00:27:09Can't get it up, Spencer?
00:27:11Shut your ass, Rain.
00:27:16All right, let's go.
00:27:17Good luck, boy.
00:27:19Hello, Michael.
00:27:28My name is Jessica Foster.
00:27:31Please, let me explain to you why I'm here.
00:27:33I'm writing a book.
00:27:36It's a mystery.
00:27:38And your input would be most valuable to me.
00:27:41So I'd like to ask you some questions.
00:27:43All right?
00:27:44Michael.
00:27:46Michael, I'm over here.
00:27:47Why are you looking down?
00:27:48Because they took my teeth.
00:27:51Because they what?
00:27:51I said, because they took my damn teeth.
00:27:58Now, what do you do when you're writing a book?
00:28:00A mystery?
00:28:01I got a mystery for you.
00:28:03How my innocent white ass got stuck here on death row.
00:28:06Now, that's a story for you.
00:28:07Are you innocent?
00:28:09You even spoke to my attorney about doing this.
00:28:11Actually, I have.
00:28:12And he felt that the publicity might do you some good.
00:28:18Publicity?
00:28:19Only thing I've gotten from the media has been bad publicity.
00:28:23Besides that, Michael, I work for the governor.
00:28:27That's where I knew you from.
00:28:28I knew it.
00:28:30You were at the trial, weren't you?
00:28:31You were there with the governor.
00:28:33Hey, screw the governor.
00:28:34He couldn't wait to get my ass in here.
00:28:36Hey, wait a minute.
00:28:37Maybe the governor's right.
00:28:39Maybe you did kill that girl.
00:28:41Kill Christy?
00:28:44Shut up!
00:28:46No.
00:28:50Michael, do you recall anything from that night?
00:28:56Listen, I've been through this a million times.
00:29:00With that video, I don't have a chance.
00:29:02And you know that.
00:29:04Well, it was on tape.
00:29:07So how do you explain that?
00:29:08Look, we are playing out a sexual game, period.
00:29:13I think it was her old man.
00:29:15She told me he was a lawyer.
00:29:16Maybe he came home early, saw me making love to his wife, and got real jealous and killed her.
00:29:20I don't know.
00:29:21Michael, from what the police said, Christy had no boyfriend, nor husband, for that matter.
00:29:30It seems they think they have their man.
00:29:33What?
00:29:34What?
00:29:35What are you talking about?
00:29:37She told me she had an old man.
00:29:39I was seeing Christy long enough.
00:29:41I should have known.
00:29:41Why the hell do you think I was in such a hurry?
00:29:43She told me he was coming home that night.
00:29:45Do you recall seeing or hearing anyone else in the house that night?
00:29:48No, but outside I thought I saw someone watching me, but hell, it was Halloween and could have been anybody.
00:29:54Really?
00:29:55Did you get a good look at them?
00:29:57I might have.
00:29:59Christ, I was so damn drunk I don't remember exactly, but I told all this to my lawyer anyway.
00:30:05He never brought any of this stuff up in court anyhow, so what's the matter now?
00:30:08Well, Michael, if you remember anything else from that night, let me know for the next time.
00:30:15I may be able to help you.
00:30:20Look, that's enough questions for now.
00:30:21I have to get back to work.
00:30:24Try and remember as much as you can from that night for the next time, Michael.
00:30:30What the hell are you asking me about that night for?
00:30:34How's that going to help in your book?
00:30:35Tell me that.
00:30:36Look, Michael, if these questions are too much for you, I can interview any of the other inmates.
00:30:42No, it's cool.
00:30:44You don't got to go.
00:30:45Listen, it's just a little hard for me to deal with the fact of my first day being on death row, that's all.
00:30:54Jessica liked me.
00:30:55I could tell.
00:30:56Whether or not she believed me was a whole different thing.
00:31:00But for now, she was the only way I hope I had to prove my innocence.
00:31:03To tell my story.
00:31:18Hello?
00:31:19Hello?
00:31:20Mr. Bateman, I see you got the picture.
00:31:23Now that things have calmed down, I just wanted to say that I appreciate the outcome of Michael's trial.
00:31:28I should hope that there will be no appeals while he's on the road.
00:31:32I'd hate for that awful picture of you to hit the press.
00:31:36Your wife would go crazy.
00:31:37I don't foresee any problems.
00:31:39Good.
00:31:39Look, my lines aren't tapped.
00:31:42Is this who I think it is?
00:31:45Hello?
00:31:47Damn it!
00:31:51That Miss Foster must have taken a real liking to you.
00:31:54Toothless and all.
00:31:56Because she dropped off this TV at the gate.
00:31:58Now it's got video and everything.
00:31:59Go figure it out.
00:32:01Yeah, figure that one, Spencer.
00:32:04Hell, I wouldn't even have been that nice to her.
00:32:05Oh, I don't know.
00:32:07Those middle-aged chicks get all hot and bothered for you.
00:32:10Young, pretty boys.
00:32:12What's up, Corporal Spencer?
00:32:15Don't you go hang yourself with that electrical floor, boy.
00:32:18You get the ward and the hopeless top.
00:32:21Now, Michael, what do you say to the nice maintenance man?
00:32:24Tell you what.
00:32:25Why don't you give me that TV set come execution day and we'll call it even?
00:32:30I'll tell you what.
00:32:31How about I just give it to you when I walk out of here a free man?
00:32:34I mean, how's that sound?
00:32:37Whatever you say.
00:32:38You're a real dreamer, right?
00:32:40Let's go.
00:32:46Try those on, see if those help your vision.
00:32:51I tried to pass the time best I could,
00:32:54but I couldn't get my mind off of Danker's execution.
00:32:57When you're locked up 23 hours a day next to the guy,
00:33:01believe me, it's a hard thing to do.
00:33:04Get dressed, Rain.
00:33:11We got somewhere to go.
00:33:14Kind of early in the morning for a stroll, isn't it, Weindell?
00:33:17Hell, it's Danker's big day.
00:33:19And you need to get ready for it.
00:33:21See that piece of shit in there?
00:33:31Crying like a fucking baby.
00:33:34Oh, he didn't mind torturing his family,
00:33:36acting like a big man on death row.
00:33:39Now look at him.
00:33:41And that's gonna be you, Michael.
00:33:45Sooner or later.
00:33:47Sitting right there.
00:33:48Hey, Sergeant, what the fuck are you doing?
00:33:52Shut up!
00:33:54That press out there,
00:33:56making your fucks out to be a bunch of heroes.
00:33:59Writing all kinds of books about your shitheads.
00:34:01Making all kinds of money.
00:34:02Well, it makes me sick.
00:34:04But I ain't nothing like that.
00:34:05Shut up!
00:34:05You got the governor's bitch coming down here
00:34:08to see you tomorrow, Michael.
00:34:09Wants to know how you feel.
00:34:11What about the victims?
00:34:13Why don't we ask them how they feel?
00:34:15Why don't we dig up your dead girl
00:34:16and ask her how she feels?
00:34:18Where the fuck are you taking me, Weindell?
00:34:21The warden and I think it's time
00:34:22we clean you up for your interview.
00:34:25We'll make you look like a real hero.
00:34:29Got to take your break.
00:34:31It's not early for lunch, ain't it?
00:34:32I said take your break!
00:34:35Corporal Spencer.
00:34:49I believe you're dismissed.
00:34:51But warden, I'm suffiating...
00:34:52Spencer!
00:34:53You heard the warden.
00:34:55Yes, sir.
00:34:56Spencer, where are you going to?
00:34:58Sergeant Weindell tells me it's a big day for you tomorrow.
00:35:03But you know, I hear that you're...
00:35:05Your head, your poor body
00:35:07is just covered with crap lives.
00:35:11I hate to hear that.
00:35:13I can't possibly let you see
00:35:15Miss Foster in that condition.
00:35:16It's much too unsanitary.
00:35:19What are you talking about?
00:35:20Shh!
00:35:21Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:22Shh!
00:35:23Shh!
00:35:23Shh!
00:35:24Shh!
00:35:24Shh!
00:35:25Shh!
00:35:25Shh!
00:35:26Shh!
00:35:27Shh!
00:35:27Shh!
00:35:28Shh!
00:35:28Shh!
00:35:29Shh!
00:35:30Shh!
00:35:31Shh!
00:35:32Shh!
00:35:33And he was a crazy bastard.
00:35:38Well, the warden was concerned about you.
00:35:41He said to give you a checkup and make sure you're all right.
00:35:44The warden said Danker did this?
00:35:46Yeah, well, it happens.
00:35:51If you need anything, anything at all, just let the guards know, and I'll bring you right down to the road.
00:35:57Governor?
00:35:58Can I ask you a personal question?
00:35:59Sure.
00:36:00Oh, yeah.
00:36:01Do you miss her?
00:36:02Yeah.
00:36:03I miss her.
00:36:04I miss her every single day.
00:36:06I'm so sorry, Bill.
00:36:07But your secret is safe with me.
00:36:08I don't condone what goes on in here.
00:36:09I don't think you do, Father.
00:36:10You got a minute to talk?
00:36:11No.
00:36:12Yeah.
00:36:13I'm sorry.
00:36:14I don't condone what goes on in here.
00:36:29I don't condone what goes on in here.
00:36:33I don't think you do, Father.
00:36:36You got a minute to talk?
00:36:37Yes, I do.
00:36:40I've been trying to act so tough since I've walked into this prison.
00:36:45And I've never been as scared of dying as I am right now.
00:36:51I mean, I'm telling you right now.
00:36:54The fear is okay, Michael.
00:36:56No, listen to me.
00:36:57I love Christy, and I know you don't believe me.
00:37:00But I did kill Christy.
00:37:02And no one in this prison, no one believes me.
00:37:06The fear is okay, Michael.
00:37:07Just don't let these bars be your keeper.
00:37:10Look at me.
00:37:12I'm a fucking...
00:37:14Be strong, Michael.
00:37:21Father.
00:37:22Yes, Lord?
00:37:23Would you excuse us just a moment?
00:37:24Prisoner Rain here has a visitor.
00:37:26Of course.
00:37:28My prayers are with you, my son.
00:37:30Thank you, Father.
00:37:31You're welcome.
00:37:33Take the cups off of it.
00:37:36You need to get dressed, Rain.
00:37:38I told Miss Foster about your head lice problem.
00:37:41About how Danker went crazy.
00:37:44And beat you up in your cell.
00:37:45We just couldn't control that crazy guy, could we?
00:37:48You understand, right?
00:37:51Hope you ain't planning to tell her anything but the truth.
00:37:55She deserves that much, at least.
00:37:58Now, she's waiting for you down in the visitor's cell.
00:38:02Michael, you could say things.
00:38:04But who's going to believe a crazy killer like you?
00:38:08And besides, inside here, you need my friendship.
00:38:14And you watch yourself, boy.
00:38:15Because I'll be right in there, listening.
00:38:21Cuff him.
00:38:24Oh, my God, Michael.
00:38:26I can't believe that Danker did this to you.
00:38:28Miss Foster!
00:38:29Keep your seat, please.
00:38:30Oh, my God, are you okay?
00:38:34I'm fine.
00:38:36Okay, Michael.
00:38:40Okay.
00:38:42How do you feel after last night?
00:38:47I screwed you good last night.
00:38:50Excuse me?
00:38:52I said I'm glad they fried Danker last night.
00:38:55Why would you say that, Michael?
00:38:57I got so sick listening to that crazy bastard bragging in his cell
00:39:01how he's some big, bad, fucking killer.
00:39:04Now look at him.
00:39:05He's dead, Jessica.
00:39:07Dead!
00:39:08Michael, what have they done to you?
00:39:11You seemed so different from the last time I saw you.
00:39:14None of us are innocent, Jessica!
00:39:16None of us!
00:39:18We all got demons.
00:39:19You got demons.
00:39:20And I got demons, Jessica.
00:39:21I'm going to tell you something right fucking now!
00:39:24Every man's got his snapping point.
00:39:27Maybe I reached mine.
00:39:28Maybe I did kill Christy.
00:39:30Maybe I was just too damn drunk to remember it, though.
00:39:32All right, Michael.
00:39:33Let's change the subject, okay?
00:39:37You said something about seeing something
00:39:39or hearing something in the bushes the other night.
00:39:41Do you remember that?
00:39:43Yeah.
00:39:44I do remember.
00:39:46You're supposed to do two favors for me.
00:39:48Oh, right.
00:39:49I left your magazines with Corporal Spencer
00:39:52and your lawyer apologizes.
00:39:55He's been a very busy man.
00:39:57Bateman?
00:39:58Busy?
00:39:59He sucks.
00:39:59Why do you think I'm on death row?
00:40:01What the hell could he be busy about?
00:40:02I'm on death row, Jessica.
00:40:04I don't have a lot of time in here.
00:40:05Don't you get it?
00:40:07He's trying to get you an appeal, Michael.
00:40:09It's a long process.
00:40:12You know, he is doing this pro bono.
00:40:14And no money.
00:40:15He does have paying clients, you know.
00:40:20Gee, Miss Foster.
00:40:21Thank you very much for the insight.
00:40:23I appreciate it, Dad.
00:40:24Look, I'm gonna go now.
00:40:27You do that.
00:40:29And one other thing.
00:40:31What?
00:40:32Do you see that fat bastard Gordon standing behind you
00:40:35and that pencil deck guard?
00:40:37They did this to me.
00:40:39Break that in your book.
00:40:40Foster, this interview is over.
00:40:42That inmate is obviously upset
00:40:44from whom last night it's time to take him back to his cell.
00:40:46What do you mean this interview is over?
00:40:49It's time to go, Miss Foster.
00:40:51Get your hands off me.
00:40:53Is what he said true?
00:40:54I asked you a question.
00:40:56Now, you listen to me and you listen good.
00:41:00I run a prison full of murderers and rapists.
00:41:03It's my job to discipline them any way I can.
00:41:07Most of these guys have broken every rule in the book.
00:41:11It's my job to teach them respect.
00:41:16And it's people like you who better pray to God
00:41:21that people like me do my job while they're in there
00:41:24because one of these days these scumbags
00:41:26are gonna be out on the street.
00:41:28And then you better pray to God
00:41:29you're not walking down the street.
00:41:30You are one of your self-righteous, liberal friends.
00:41:33One of these good old boys decides
00:41:35that he's gonna put a bullet in that pretty head of yours.
00:41:39Now, when you run this prison,
00:41:42you run it any way you want to.
00:41:45But while I am in charge,
00:41:49I will discipline these bastards as I see fit.
00:41:56Now, do I make myself clear?
00:42:00When the warden gets through with you,
00:42:02you are gonna wish you were somebody else.
00:42:05You'd need some trouble, boy,
00:42:09if you just kept your mouth shut!
00:42:17Let me out of here!
00:42:26Why now?
00:42:27Open it, mother...
00:42:29Open the door!
00:42:34It'll teach you to spit on me, you piece of shit!
00:42:36Don't fucking touch me!
00:42:37I know who you are!
00:42:38I know who the hell you are!
00:42:40You're Lucifer T-Powers!
00:42:41Why, is that strange, Michael?
00:42:42You son of a bitch!
00:42:43We just met,
00:42:44and already you want to kill me?
00:42:45Yeah, well, you need to stay the fuck away from me!
00:42:47It's got to be the darkness.
00:42:48They say it plays tricks on a man's mind.
00:42:52Father,
00:42:52I'll be keeping an eye on you.
00:42:55Oh,
00:42:56and Governor Roberts
00:42:57says hello.
00:42:58Do you have any idea why I'm in here, Michael?
00:43:20Yeah, because
00:43:21what I hear from the other prisoners,
00:43:23you, I guess,
00:43:25had killed an altar boy or something,
00:43:27is what I heard.
00:43:28What the fuck are you doing?
00:43:38Oh, no, no, Michael.
00:43:39You don't understand.
00:43:41I'm a man of God.
00:43:43Back in 91,
00:43:44our good governor came to me.
00:43:47He had a belly full of guilt.
00:43:49He told me he was cheating on his wife.
00:43:52He'd fallen in love with a hooker.
00:43:54She was a very beautiful, exotic dancer.
00:43:56He told me his desire for her was totally out of control.
00:44:01He was obsessed and insanely jealous of her.
00:44:04I listened,
00:44:05tried to help him.
00:44:06But the more he confessed,
00:44:09the angrier he got.
00:44:10Finally,
00:44:12he realized what he'd done.
00:44:14He just confessed to committing adultery.
00:44:16In a fit of rage,
00:44:19he threatened if I ever spoke a word of this to anyone,
00:44:22he would see me out of the priesthood.
00:44:24A week later,
00:44:26the police showed up at the church,
00:44:30said an altar boy was missing.
00:44:32Could they look around?
00:44:34Of course I said yes.
00:44:36I even helped him search.
00:44:38My only mistake was asking him not to look in the cellar,
00:44:41but they did anyway.
00:44:43That's where they found the boy's body.
00:44:45I couldn't believe they thought I did it.
00:44:47I tried to run.
00:44:49They shot me.
00:44:51When I came out of the coma, Michael,
00:44:52this is what I had.
00:44:55A glass eye.
00:44:56A glass fucking eye.
00:44:57Look at it, Michael.
00:44:58This is the thanks I got for being a priest.
00:45:01Oh, and you better believe the good governor was at my trial
00:45:04and saw to it that I was convicted and sentenced to die.
00:45:08No one would believe me.
00:45:10Do you understand me, Michael?
00:45:11I was a holy man.
00:45:14But God was listening.
00:45:16He has provided me an escape.
00:45:18A way out.
00:45:21Before I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
00:45:24I will see to it the governor walks before me.
00:45:26And vengeance will be mine.
00:45:28But you must never tell anyone my secret, Michael.
00:45:31Bip!
00:45:32Do you understand?
00:45:38Everything has been arranged.
00:45:40Please see that he gets the message, Mark.
00:45:43Yes, sister.
00:45:45I promise Lucifer will get the message.
00:45:47There's a place where you go
00:45:53I've never been
00:45:55I never know
00:45:56The pain you keep inside
00:45:59The secrets that you hide
00:46:02But I try to understand your pain
00:46:06Be a shelter from the falling rain
00:46:09Just maybe I feel what you're going through
00:46:12Maybe I have been there too
00:46:16Please take the demon from my head
00:46:20Michael, Michael
00:46:24Don't even think of screaming out
00:46:26You listen to me good
00:46:28Don't ever tell anyone what I told you
00:46:30Because I'm getting out
00:46:33Do you understand me?
00:46:34Before I go to the chair
00:46:37I'll see, dude
00:46:38That the governor pays for both of us
00:46:39Do you understand me?
00:46:42Spencer, get me the fuck out of here!
00:46:44Michael, as soon as I heard
00:46:45That they put you in with that sick man
00:46:47I got you out
00:46:48Rather, Donald got you out
00:46:51You okay, Michael?
00:46:52Yeah, I'm fine, I think
00:46:54Did he tell you anything?
00:46:57About what?
00:46:58You know, about his feelings
00:46:59Anything like that
00:47:00Jessica
00:47:01I'm not exactly in the mood
00:47:03For an interview right now
00:47:04I just spent two weeks
00:47:05In solitary confinement, okay?
00:47:07And ask me about what?
00:47:09Why?
00:47:09Who gives a shit?
00:47:10I'm sorry
00:47:11I'm just thinking about the book
00:47:13That's all
00:47:13I'll ask you later
00:47:14We'll talk
00:47:15Michael, I got good news and bad news
00:47:17What you want first?
00:47:19Well, let me see, Donald
00:47:20How about
00:47:21Where the hell have you been?
00:47:24Come on, Michael
00:47:25I've been very busy
00:47:26Now listen
00:47:26The good news is
00:47:28One of your songs got published
00:47:29And it's getting you some good press out there
00:47:31It may even help with your appeal
00:47:32And guess what else?
00:47:34We found your father
00:47:35I took the liberty of flying him in from Pittsburgh on my own
00:47:39My dad
00:47:42The bad news is
00:47:45They've set the date for your execution, Michael
00:47:46When?
00:47:53February 10th, 1995
00:47:54You're telling me I'm going to wait in here two years to die, Bateman?
00:48:02Uh-uh
00:48:03No way
00:48:04Come on, Michael
00:48:05I'm doing all I can
00:48:06Michael
00:48:08Try and think more positive about the appeal
00:48:11I have more questions for you about the book
00:48:14So I'll talk to you later, okay?
00:48:16Your father's waiting outside
00:48:18Hello, son
00:48:38Hi, Dad
00:48:41I brought you some cigarettes
00:48:45I left him with a guard out there
00:48:47Thank you
00:48:50You okay?
00:48:57I've been better
00:48:58James, James
00:49:02How the hell did you wind up in here, son?
00:49:06I mean, damn
00:49:07I thought you would have learned your lesson first time
00:49:10My name's not James no more
00:49:15I changed it to
00:49:16I changed it to Michael Rain when I moved down here
00:49:19Well, maybe that's not such a bad idea
00:49:22It saves me a whole lot of embarrassment
00:49:24Embarrassed to what, Dad?
00:49:26Don't you give a shit
00:49:27They treat me like an animal in here
00:49:29Now listen to me, James
00:49:32If they let you out, they gotta let everyone out
00:49:34How could you say that to me, Dad?
00:49:37Look at me
00:49:37They're gonna kill me while I'm in here
00:49:39Don't you get it?
00:49:40Don't you raise your voice at me, son
00:49:41I reach in there and smack your face
00:49:43I never should have come here in the first place
00:49:45You're a disgrace, son
00:49:46Damn two-time loser
00:49:48I'm sorry, Dad
00:49:52Yeah, you're sorry
00:49:53It's a little too late for sorry now, don't you think?
00:49:57I've seen all I want to see
00:49:58I'm leaving now
00:50:00And may the good Lord have mercy on your soul
00:50:03Dad
00:50:07They're gonna fucking kill me
00:50:11If you leave
00:50:14I got nobody
00:50:16I got nobody
00:50:18I got nobody
00:50:23I was so sorry to hear about that falling out you had with your old man there, Michael
00:50:48That was such a shame
00:50:50It seems like families just don't stick together anymore
00:50:54You looking for these?
00:51:01Now sing me a pretty song, Michael
00:51:03Oh, come on, Michael
00:51:06Sing me a pretty song
00:51:08Let's see
00:51:09Pretty little pussy boy
00:51:12Sitting in a cell
00:51:14Waiting to die
00:51:16Going straight to hell
00:51:19Come on, Michael
00:51:21Come on
00:51:22Give me your math
00:51:24Come on, one
00:51:25Come on
00:51:25There's too many witnesses
00:51:28Next time we go to the showers
00:51:31Your ass is mine, Ray
00:51:32You're dead, you hear me?
00:51:34Fuck you
00:51:34Shut up
00:51:36All y'all
00:51:37What the fuck
00:51:38Shut up
00:51:40What the hell's up with Weindel?
00:51:44Yeah, nobody knows
00:51:45I think he's just searching for his inner child
00:51:47Yeah, well his inner child needs his ass kicked
00:51:50Although Jessica stood behind these walls
00:51:52She was free to leave
00:51:53I hated that
00:51:55I also hated the fact that she pretended to understand how I felt
00:51:59Maybe the fact was I was just falling in love with her
00:52:03After all, she was the only person who listened
00:52:06Who cared
00:52:07Or at least she pretended to care
00:52:10Over the next several months we became very close
00:52:14I talked a lot about my childhood
00:52:17And I told her how my mother
00:52:18Had died of complications right after I was born
00:52:21And how my father blamed me for it
00:52:23I told her I had absolutely no friends on the outside
00:52:27Except for her
00:52:29I told Jessica lots of things
00:52:31But I kept my word to father powers
00:52:34And never shared his secret
00:52:37Tyrone, break
00:52:37Come on, Tyrone, break
00:52:39I sure do appreciate this, sister
00:53:00And don't you worry about a thing
00:53:02I am the trusted maintenance man of that there prison
00:53:06You know, still
00:53:10I find it strange
00:53:13That a woman
00:53:15Of the cloth
00:53:17Should be so interested in
00:53:19Springing a convict
00:53:22Anyhow
00:53:26I'll be here at 10.15 to collect
00:53:28You just make sure
00:53:30Your contact inside the prison
00:53:32Explains the route
00:53:34And if the priest follows the plan
00:53:36He should come out that storm drain
00:53:38Right about 10.30
00:53:39You just make sure
00:53:40You just make sure
00:53:41You're not the only one
00:53:42You're not the only one
00:53:43You're not the only one
00:53:44You're not the only one
00:53:45You're not the only one
00:53:46You're not the only one
00:53:47You're not the only one
00:53:48You're not the only one
00:53:49You're not the only one
00:53:50You're not the only one
00:53:51You're not the only one
00:53:52You're not the only one
00:53:53You're not the only one
00:53:54You're not the only one
00:53:55You're not the only one
00:53:56You're not the only one
00:53:57You're not the only one
00:53:58You're not the only one
00:53:59You're not the only one
00:54:00You're not the only one
00:54:01You're not the only one
00:54:02You're not the only one
00:54:03You're not the only one
00:54:04You're not the only one
00:54:05You're not the only one
00:54:06You're not the only one
00:54:07Hawkins was always pretty calm
00:54:14Except for the morning Lucifer's execution
00:54:17Although I felt something was up
00:54:20One thing I learned after solitary confinement
00:54:23Was keep my damn mouth shut
00:54:26Well, what you doing, Mr. Hawkins?
00:54:33Just, uh, checking these vents
00:54:35Been getting complaints from the prisoners
00:54:37They ain't getting enough airflow lately
00:54:39You know how they like to bitch
00:54:41Yeah, you got that right
00:54:42Got you here early today, Ben
00:54:45Big day
00:54:46Execution day
00:54:49Got me working two shifts
00:54:51I don't mind, though
00:54:52It pays time and a half
00:54:53All right, prisoners, listen up
00:54:57Due to tonight's execution
00:54:59Your one-hour workout period today
00:55:01Has been reduced to 45 minutes
00:55:03And we're gonna take you all out
00:55:05In just a minute in a line
00:55:06I expect no funny business
00:55:09Anybody tries anything?
00:55:12One month in solitary confinement
00:55:14I promise you
00:55:15All right, any questions?
00:55:19Yeah, I wanna know if, uh
00:55:20Nah, I didn't think so
00:55:21Okay, guards, get the prisoners ready
00:55:24File them on out
00:55:25All right, let's move, convicts
00:55:27Come on
00:55:28Is it done?
00:55:40It's a done deal
00:55:42Hey, Redford
00:55:44You think they're really gonna execute Lucifer tonight?
00:55:47Yep
00:55:48You ever think they'll execute you?
00:55:51More than likely
00:55:52Been stayed twice already
00:55:54You think you deserve to die?
00:55:57It's a funny thing, man
00:55:58The government sends you to Nam
00:56:01Gives me a license to kill
00:56:03Come home
00:56:05Get rocks thrown at me
00:56:07Spit on
00:56:08Got no job
00:56:09No family
00:56:10Then one night I get drunk
00:56:13Have a bad flashback
00:56:14Kill a couple of gooks in a convenience store
00:56:17Bing, bang, boom
00:56:22Here I am
00:56:23Waiting on the same government to kill me
00:56:25All right, you convicts
00:56:27Time to go back to your cells
00:56:29We got a busy night ahead of us
00:56:30Prisoner Blackwell
00:56:32You stay in your cage
00:56:33We'll be back in a minute
00:56:34We'll take you up the visitor area
00:56:36That's strange
00:56:37No one ever comes to see him
00:56:39Why should they?
00:56:41God never talks to anybody anyway
00:56:42That's what I mean
00:56:43What are you trying to say?
00:56:46What I'm trying to say is
00:56:47I got a strange feeling about tonight
00:56:49I've done as you asked, sister
00:56:51Would you please ask God to forgive me?
00:56:59Oh, by the way
00:57:00Tell the governor that I got his letter
00:57:02And I'm going to take care of the problem myself
00:57:04Legally
00:57:05I should hope so
00:57:07Bill, I think you should go see Father Powers
00:57:10Talk to him
00:57:11After all, he was our priest
00:57:14And a very good friend for a long time
00:57:16Now, I believe he's going to pay for his sins
00:57:18But while he's still here
00:57:19I think that you should go unquestionably
00:57:21Governor Roberts
00:57:21That's a big mistake
00:57:23Sorry, Linda
00:57:24The governor's going to get enough bad press
00:57:26For allowing a priest to be executed
00:57:28I don't think he should be anywhere near that place
00:57:31Dad, may I please be in case I'm finished?
00:57:35Yeah, David
00:57:35Why don't you go upstairs and get ready for bed?
00:57:37I'll be up in a little bit and read to you
00:57:38Okay, bud?
00:57:42Night, David
00:57:43Bill, what's the matter with you?
00:57:47Look
00:57:47Linda
00:57:49Jessica
00:57:50Jessica is right
00:57:51I don't need to go see Father Powers
00:57:53It'll only bring me more bad press
00:57:56And I don't need any more bad press
00:57:58But Bill, I think it's...
00:58:00Governor Roberts
00:58:00I couldn't agree with you more
00:58:02Look
00:58:02Jessica
00:58:04Why don't you stay here tonight?
00:58:06I'm sure she wouldn't mind
00:58:07Damn it, Linda!
00:58:10Don't you understand?
00:58:12I just want her to answer the phone
00:58:14I just want her to take care of a few things
00:58:16I'm going nuts
00:58:17Look, I didn't mean to start something
00:58:20Damn
00:58:21Governor Roberts, I'm going to go back to my apartment
00:58:23And gather a few things, all right?
00:58:26I'll try and be back by around 11
00:58:28Pretty thing, get up
00:58:37Pretty thing
00:58:39They're bringing Lucifer
00:58:40Right now?
00:58:43Yeah, man, here they come
00:58:44They're walking into the observation cell
00:58:46Mark
00:58:49Have you done as the good Lord asked?
00:58:53Yes, Father, I have
00:58:54Does he provide it all I will need to free my soul?
00:58:57Yes, Father
00:58:58God bless you, my son
00:59:00I shall see to it you're rewarded in heaven
00:59:02Lucifer has a last request, Michael
00:59:11He wants to speak to you
00:59:12Michael
00:59:15Have you told anyone my secret?
00:59:18No
00:59:18Put your cigarette in my mouth
00:59:21Say goodbye
00:59:22I'm sorry, Lucifer
00:59:28I hate to break up you lover boys
00:59:30But Lucifer already has a date
00:59:32Let's go, Lucifer
00:59:34Spencer
00:59:47Keep your eye on him while I deal with the media
00:59:51Later on, I'll be with the warden
00:59:53Only when allowed in this man's cell
00:59:55Are his priest and his lawyer, period
00:59:57You know the routine
00:59:59Yes, sir
01:00:00Nash, Roberts, check the execution room
01:00:03Yes, sir
01:00:03Father, you tell the governor I'm coming for him
01:00:07Oh my God
01:00:13Oh my God
01:00:14Oh my God
01:00:14Oh shit
01:00:15Observation says on fire
01:00:18Elizabeth's spirit's up on fire
01:00:19The whole fucking cage is burning up
01:00:20Frank, grab the extinguisher
01:00:22Hurry up
01:00:24I ain't doing it on that door
01:00:25I ain't doing it on that door
01:00:25I ain't doing it on you
01:00:25Turn it off
01:00:26Let's get him
01:00:27Watch out
01:00:28Man, crap, you're a trick
01:00:29Son of a bitch if he didn't do it
01:00:35It's out
01:00:36It's out
01:00:37All right, guards, stand ready
01:00:42What is going on, man?
01:00:44Sergeant, check that cell
01:00:45Orton, he ain't in here
01:00:55He set the mattress on fire
01:00:57What did you say?
01:00:58He's gone
01:00:59Where the hell were you?
01:01:00I went to the bathroom
01:01:01I was only gone for a minute
01:01:02All right
01:01:02You go sound the alarm
01:01:03Right now
01:01:04Yes, sir
01:01:04The whole world is watching this
01:01:08How did you let this happen?
01:01:09All's I know is
01:01:10Ray gave him a lit cigarette
01:01:12Right before he went in there
01:01:13Remember you were there, Sergeant
01:01:14You let him do what?
01:01:23He's gone
01:01:23This state's gonna get an institution
01:01:25If I gotta fry you myself
01:01:27You hear me?
01:01:28You hear me?
01:01:30You hear me?
01:01:36Come on, Joe
01:01:37Throw a wine, Joe
01:01:42You fucking nut
01:01:42Get off it, Ray
01:01:43What the hell is going on in here?
01:01:50Oh, God, Warden

01:01:54Bullshit!
01:01:55Warden
01:01:57You gotta believe me
01:01:59Weindel
01:02:01You find Lucifer

01:02:13Come here and look at this
01:02:14Son of a bitch
01:02:18Yeah, smoking confusion

01:02:21Was just kick that out
01:02:22Damn
01:02:23Hawkins
01:02:24I knew he was up to something
01:02:26What does Hawkins have to do with this?
01:02:27Well, he was working on this vent
01:02:29All morning
01:02:30All right
01:02:31Somebody get Hawkins on the phone
01:02:32The rest of you guys
01:02:33Checked the yard
01:02:34He couldn't have gotten very far away
01:02:35Sir, come quick
01:02:36He found where he escaped
01:02:37Excuse the expression, sister
01:02:45But it sounds
01:02:47Like all hell
01:02:49He's broke loose
01:02:51He must pay me my money
01:02:56Spencer, where do these come out?
01:02:59Four different places
01:03:00As they all come out of the wall, sir
01:03:01All right
01:03:01I want you to get some men
01:03:02Check all the exits

01:04:02What?
01:04:04When?
01:04:05It was about an hour ago
01:04:05I just heard it on the radio
01:04:07Oh, my God
01:04:08Does the governor know?
01:04:09I'm sure somebody's phoned him
01:04:11But you better get up there
01:04:12He'll be in a panic
01:04:13All right, Thomas
01:04:14You be careful out here tonight

01:04:42From Hendersonville Hospital
01:04:43Here's Ruth Moran

01:04:49Security then found the unconscious body of his young son outside the mansion
01:04:54God, can you believe that shit?
01:04:56I know, pinned his pajamas
01:04:56Police reported was a suicide note
01:04:59Doesn't look good for you, Michael
01:05:00Oh, by the way
01:05:04Your attorney dropped this letter off
01:05:06Seemed like he was in a really big hurry
01:05:07Thanks, Spencer
01:05:10Apparently he had shot himself with a single gunshot wound to the head
01:05:15A source close to the governor reports the note said
01:05:18I have come seeking vengeance for myself
01:05:21And another soul wronged by the governor
01:05:23Michael Rain
01:05:24By the time you read this, I will have found my vengeance
01:05:27This is Ruth Moran, Channel 30 News
01:05:30Michael
01:05:37The picture says it all
01:05:39Surprised?
01:05:42I was also a client of Christy
01:05:44That's right, she was a whore
01:05:46Someone from the governor's office got this picture of me leaving her house
01:05:51Wrong place, wrong time
01:05:53I got blackmailed into taking your case
01:05:56Tell the governor that I got his letter
01:05:58And I'm going to take care of the problem myself
01:06:01Legally
01:06:02I should hope so
01:06:03But my instincts tell me that you may be innocent
01:06:07Christy was drunk one night and told me that the governor was also a client
01:06:11And extremely jealous of her
01:06:13Immediately following Christy's death
01:06:15I received this picture from the governor's office
01:06:18He really wants to see you executed
01:06:21At first I thought it was because of the upcoming re-elections
01:06:24But now I feel that he may be involved in her death somehow
01:06:28Do not try to contact me, I have left the country
01:06:31I'm sorry
01:06:32I just can't believe it
01:06:34And now he's dying and you loved him so much
01:06:40Your poor wife
01:06:44She can't have any more children
01:06:47But I can
01:06:51And you know that
01:06:53I can't believe it
01:07:23Hello, this is Jessica.
01:07:27Please leave a message.
01:07:28Bye.
01:07:31Jessica, this is Donald Bateman.
01:07:33I hate to call you at home, but look,
01:07:34I heard about the governor's son on the morning news.
01:07:36Man, what is going on?
01:07:38What I'm about to tell you,
01:07:39not it won't make any sense to you.
01:07:40Just tell the governor that I dropped Michael's case.
01:07:43It's all become too much free to handle.
01:07:45I gave Michael a letter this morning
01:07:46that's going to explain everything to him.
01:07:48Tell Governor Robertson he may need a very good attorney.
01:07:51I'm leaving town for a while,
01:07:52and I can't be reached.
01:07:54It's too bad you had to be caught up in the middle of all this,
01:07:56but due to the circumstances,
01:07:58you know, I can't contact the governor.
01:08:00Please relay my message.
01:08:02He'll understand.
01:08:03Goodbye.
01:08:05It's to the governor, Bateman.
01:08:07You will not!
01:08:09Jessica Foster's here to see you.
01:08:10She looks really upset.
01:08:11Who?
01:08:12Jessica Foster.
01:08:13Right, okay.
01:08:14I told you, man, right here.
01:08:23Thank you, Ruth.
01:08:27This just in, sources close to the governor,
01:08:30report that his son David has regained consciousness,
01:08:33and his doctors are now saying
01:08:35his chances of full recovery are excellent.
01:08:38Stay with us for further live updates on this tragic story.
01:08:41Michael, the hospital said that he went into a coma.
01:08:44He stopped breathing.
01:08:46That's why I left.
01:08:48I couldn't take it, Michael.
01:08:50No, Jessica.
01:08:52He's still alive.
01:08:52Listen to me.
01:08:53I just heard it in the news.
01:08:55And besides,
01:08:56with everything going on,
01:08:58why'd you still come here to see me?
01:09:00Huh?
01:09:00Michael, I don't know.
01:09:03I'm confused.
01:09:05I don't know.
01:09:09Me too.
01:09:11This whole thing just doesn't make sense.
01:09:13What doesn't make sense?
01:09:15Jessica, what I'm trying to say is
01:09:17why would he go to all the trouble,
01:09:18break it into the governor's house,
01:09:19and then kill the governor's son?
01:09:21Or try to kill the governor's son?
01:09:23And not the governor?
01:09:24Bullshit.
01:09:24He's a very sick man, Michael.
01:09:29Don't you remember?
01:09:30He killed that boy.
01:09:33But in solitary, he told me that he had...
01:09:35He told you what?
01:09:36You said he didn't tell you anything.
01:09:38No, Jessica.
01:09:40He told me lots of things.
01:09:41And now I got something to tell you
01:09:43about your good governor.
01:09:44No, they're not true.
01:09:46The governor is a very good man, Michael.
01:09:49He never killed that boy.
01:09:51What'd you just say?
01:09:53I never mentioned that Lucifer
01:09:54said anything about the governor
01:09:55killing a boy.
01:09:57The governor is not a good man, Jessica.
01:09:59He's not a good man.
01:10:00He's trying to blackmail me
01:10:01and blackmail my attorney.
01:10:03Give me that fucking letter
01:10:05that Donald gave you, Michael.
01:10:07What letter?
01:10:08How the hell did you know
01:10:09Donald gave me a letter, huh?
01:10:10I can help you.
01:10:11Give it to me.
01:10:13Jessica, why are you freaking out like this?
01:10:16I trusted you, Jessica.
01:10:18Don't tell me you're involved
01:10:19in this thing, too.
01:10:21Just give me the fucking letter, Michael.
01:10:26You're not writing a fucking book,
01:10:27are you, Jessica?
01:10:28You're just trying to get information
01:10:30out of me, aren't you?
01:10:31It was the governor in the bushes
01:10:32that night, wasn't it?
01:10:33No, no.
01:10:34The governor did not kill Christy.
01:10:36He didn't care anything about her.
01:10:37He loved me, Michael.
01:10:38Spencer, you listen to shit.
01:10:39Now give me the fucking letter.
01:10:41I'll take that.
01:10:53Jessica, what the hell
01:10:53are you doing here?
01:10:54Governor, I was just trying to...
01:10:56It doesn't matter
01:10:56what you were trying to do.
01:10:58Now get out of here.
01:11:00I want a word
01:11:00that this Mr. Rain...
01:11:02Miss Foster, come with me.
01:11:03I don't believe
01:11:03you're going to want to see this.
01:11:04Governor, if you need me,
01:11:05I'll be at the hospital
01:11:06with your son.
01:11:07You filthy fucking piece of trash.
01:11:15My son is in the hospital dying.
01:11:19Do you hear me?
01:11:22And so help me God.
01:11:24If he dies,
01:11:26it's because of you.
01:11:30You sent Lucifer for him.
01:11:36Why?
01:11:37Why did you do this?
01:11:43Good.
01:11:44Look at him.
01:11:47Look at him!
01:11:49Piece of fucking trash.
01:11:52You call it me trash?
01:11:53You probably did it yourself.
01:11:56All right, you're finished!
01:11:58How are you holding up,
01:12:09Mrs. Roberts?
01:12:10I'm fine.
01:12:16I didn't send Lucifer
01:12:17to kill your son.
01:12:18And I didn't kill Christy either.
01:12:21I swear to you.
01:12:22Read the letter!
01:12:23God damn it.
01:12:26It's all in that letter.
01:12:27My lawyer thinks you did it.
01:12:28You set me up, didn't you?
01:12:30Lucifer told me
01:12:31that you set him up.
01:12:33When I was in solitary,
01:12:34he said you confessed
01:12:35to him everything.
01:12:36You were in love
01:12:37with a hooker.
01:12:38A stripper.
01:12:39It was Christy, wasn't it?
01:12:41You're the one
01:12:42that had Lucifer framed
01:12:43for a murder
01:12:44he didn't commit.
01:12:46And you wanted me dead
01:12:47to cover your ass.
01:12:48I don't want you
01:12:49to worry about David.
01:12:50He's going to be all right.
01:12:51Okay?
01:12:52Try to rest easy.
01:12:53Thank you, Dr. Baker.
01:12:54You're welcome.
01:12:54Bye-bye.
01:12:55Dr. Myers.
01:13:07You think I would be here
01:13:09with all these witnesses
01:13:11if I'd done anything wrong?
01:13:15Look,
01:13:16I never saw these photographs before
01:13:19and I never sent this letter
01:13:21to Donald Bateman.
01:13:22and I didn't set you
01:13:24or Lucifer up.
01:13:25You're lying.
01:13:27It's true.
01:13:29I was insanely jealous of her.
01:13:32At that trial,
01:13:33when I saw that video
01:13:34of you with her,
01:13:38I wanted you dead.
01:13:40The Lord was pleased with Abel
01:13:42and his offering,
01:13:44but with Cain.
01:13:45What about Jessica, huh?
01:13:47She wasn't writing no damn book.
01:13:49You were just sending her to me
01:13:50to find out information
01:13:51because you thought
01:13:51maybe I'd seen you
01:13:52in the bushes at night,
01:13:53didn't you?
01:13:53Hell, hell,
01:13:54I don't know anything
01:13:55about a book.
01:13:56I didn't even know
01:13:57she was coming here
01:13:58to see you till tonight.
01:14:00She knew everything.
01:14:01She knew about what Lucifer
01:14:02told me in solitary.
01:14:03She knew that I had
01:14:04a letter from Donald.
01:14:05How the hell else
01:14:05do you think she knew?
01:14:08God.

01:14:15Linda.
01:14:16Hi, you've been in here
01:14:17such a long time.
01:14:18Why don't you go
01:14:19and have a cup of coffee?
01:14:21I'll watch David.
01:14:23Governor.
01:14:24What?
01:14:24If it's Jessica,
01:14:25that would explain
01:14:26why none of Lucifer's
01:14:27fingerprints were found
01:14:28in David's bedroom.
01:14:30Yeah, wait a minute.
01:14:30What, are you wearing gloves?
01:14:31No, sir,
01:14:32not when they found the body.
01:14:33And I haven't had time
01:14:34to tell you this today,
01:14:35but the coroner thinks
01:14:36Lucifer had been dead
01:14:37for over eight hours
01:14:39when the body was found.
01:14:40The gunshot that woke you up,
01:14:42that couldn't have been Lucifer's.
01:14:45Something else
01:14:45don't make sense.
01:14:47Why would she want
01:14:48to hurt David?
01:14:50Chris,
01:14:51where's Jessica?
01:14:52She went to the hospital
01:14:53to be with your son.

01:16:34behind here.
01:16:35Fucking
01:16:36inmates with their

01:16:42Hell, I didn't do it.
01:16:44Or
01:16:44the dog did it.
01:16:46Or
01:16:46my mama made me do it.
01:16:47Or my daddy used to
01:16:48beat me or rape me.
01:16:49Or the voices in my head.
01:16:50Or
01:16:50God made me do it.
