00:00It's one of the world's best-known puzzles, and now it's a building block of some truly unique art.
00:08Liverpool artist Faye McCabe's putting a colourful spin on creativity,
00:13using hundreds of Rubik's cubes to craft portraits and sculptures that are turning heads.
00:19The art world's very, very competitive, and I started off by doing traditional oil painting
00:23and found that I wasn't really getting anywhere.
00:25I soon needed to do something that was a little bit more me, a little bit more original.
00:30And the Rubik's cube motif, it's just brilliant.
00:33You know, anyone, whether they're 7 or 70, can understand it.
00:37This August, she's showcasing her work at a new exhibition called Think Again at Quirky Quarter on Duke Street.
00:45I never thought that I'd be able to access a space like this, especially in Liverpool, so it's really, really exciting.
00:50There is definitely a bit of pressure to deliver, you know, this is something that I've been working on behind the scenes for months now,
00:56so for it to see it all come together is really, really lovely.
00:58The exhibition's a collaboration with 3D print artist Anthony, re-managing art history through a modern puzzle-filled lens.
01:07I'm actually predominantly a software developer. I've been a software developer for over 10 years.
01:12It's my first job, real job, was at Microsoft when I was 18, and I've spent the rest of my career in various other companies solving problems.
01:24So I thought, I'm having an experience with solving problems now, so why not solve some really creative problems with really creative people?
01:34From allusions to iconography, it's designed to challenge the way we see familiar masterpieces.
01:39I want people to feel like they can go to an art gallery and understand what art means, especially from a Liverpool local artist.
01:47You know, I'm a girl from West Derby, and to come from that to this is just, I want young people to be able to come in and think that could be them.
01:54Faye's work embraces the optical illusions inherent in the cube structure, crafting immersive experiences that invite viewers to engage with shifting perspectives and hidden patterns.
02:05One of my favourite hobbies is escape rooms.
02:07So within the exhibition, within all of the artworks, there are hidden messages, hidden clues.
02:12And as you come into the exhibition, you'll be given a sort of like a pamphlet.
02:15And each of the works do have hidden letters in them, which then will guide you through the rest of the show.
02:20So it is, it's designed to be interactive and for the viewer to engage with the work on a different level.
02:25And we've got a lovely window display coming in as well, so even the public are going past on Duke Street to be able to see the new piece.
02:31And it is celebrating International Beatles Week, which is coming up at the end of August.
02:36From pop icons like Taylor Swift to Liverpool's own Liva building, Faye's art combines colour, precision and a lot of patience.
02:45Within the show, we've got two feature artists, Sosa Moya and Jess Hanco Art.
02:49So they're both two really talented artists and it just felt right to sort of collaborate with different artists.
02:55Think Again is on display until Sunday 31st of August.
