00:00Joining me right now, I know where Joe's from. He's from, you're from Connecticut. You grew up in Connecticut, Joe, right?
00:06I did. Mystic, Connecticut. In fact, last Friday when I was talking with Jeff, we had a picture of downtown Mystic.
00:11In fact, behind that camera, they have what's called Mystic Pizza. If you've never gone there, go there, have their pizza.
00:17It's the best on the planet, as far as I'm concerned.
00:19I'll be heading to the boardwalk in the Jersey Shore, Wildwood, on the weekend.
00:25I think the best pizza's max on the boardwalk, so we'd have to have a little argument about that.
00:30Maybe you'll have to bring some back for us to sample.
00:33No, there's no way. I'll have it finished before I bring it back.
00:37Joe, it was back on July 17th, we were just getting into what we call the doldrums, or the mid-season low of the tropical season.
00:47We issued a couple of areas that we said probably something doesn't occur, but you have to watch it.
00:53Exactly. One of them was in the Gulf of America. We thought something would try to develop and move westward, and something did.
01:00It just never became a tropical system. It brought some pretty significant rain to the Gulf Coast region.
01:05We said another area would be here in the southwest Atlantic, and that's something they were going to be watching in the days ahead.
01:10Probably unlikely for that to develop, but still, it's going to have an impact on the weather from northern Florida up through the Carolinas
01:17with some adverse beach conditions and quite a bit of rain in the coming days, and that's something that we are going to have to track
01:24because it may impact you at the boardwalk later next week.
01:26Here are the three things to know about next week.
01:29There's no heat in the northeast. You've been dealing with this 90-degree heat and high humidity.
01:34That's gone off the table for next week.
01:37Rounds of thunderstorms are going to pound, I think, the northern plains and the Midwest during the, say, Tuesday, Wednesday, maybe Thursday time frame.
01:43Meanwhile, in Texas and the southwest, it's going to be heating up with limited thunderstorm activity next week.
01:48You know, Joe, when you take a look at the drought monitor across the country, boy, I mean, you have to get into the western U.S.
01:56before you see any drought. This is good news.
01:59It is. I mean, most of the eastern half of the country is devoid of drought except for portions of Florida, little bits of the southeast.
02:06There's some areas here in west Michigan, around Chicago and northern Illinois, and then you have to go back out into portions of the central plain states,
02:13and really most of the west is in some sort of drought condition right now.
02:18Unfortunately, the west, that's not going to change. This upper-level ridge high pressure isn't going anywhere.
02:23We notice this dip in the jet stream here. There's not much water with it.
02:26In fact, the concern is it kicks the wind up early next week and maybe ignites some fires or makes any fires going worse.
02:33Thunderstorms are going to be pretty prolific here, but dry weather in the northeast next week.
02:38All right, AccuWeather, long-range expert, meteorologist Joe Lumberg. Joe's back with us at 9.15.
