00:00Around the world, cruise ships are getting bigger, bolder
00:05Cheers, bye bye England
00:06and busier. These vast floating cities run 24 hours a day
00:11We go back to back with cruises, we don't take a break at all
00:15Carrying thousands of passengers and crew
00:18That's a big job
00:19Wow
00:20And offering everything from fine dining
00:22It's an explosion, I like that
00:24To full-scale theatres
00:27They're built for adventure
00:29And designed for luxury
00:31I could get used to this
00:33Cheers
00:34This year, a world-leading cruise line is back sailing a full season from the UK
00:39For the first time in a decade
00:42Meet the MS Neustadtendam
00:45Weighing 100,000 tonnes
00:48With 12 passenger decks
00:50Well ready for this
00:5112 restaurants curated by world-renowned chefs
00:54That's what I'm talking about
00:56Ooh, it's a buzz
00:57And a full program of entertainment
00:59We are expected to do everything perfectly at all times
01:02And excursions day and night
01:05At the same time, her sister ship, the MS Rotterdam, is cruising through the Americas
01:10Nearly 4,000 people on board
01:13Who's excited?
01:14A 760 seat theatre
01:16Ten minutes, mic check please
01:18Mic checks, ten minutes
01:19And all the on-board amenities you'd expect for a perfect holiday at sea
01:23Let's go
01:24Oh, it's gorgeous
01:25Oh, lovely
01:26Guys, let's go
01:27Over the course of the cruising season, we'll be following both ships
01:31As they travel around the Americas
01:33North Africa
01:35And Europe
01:37This time, the Rotterdam drops anchor in Jamaica
01:42Can you turn the heat down just a little bit?
01:45And with the new Stadendam docked in Porto
01:48There's a quirky city tour
01:50Okay, here are our tuk tuk
01:53The flagship of the cruise line's fleet is enjoying calm waters and sunny skies on a 12-day voyage around the Caribbean
02:12Gotta get that one
02:15That was me trying
02:17Over two and a half thousand passengers are experiencing a little taste of luxury
02:24As their every need is catered for from relaxation to tempting food
02:31The ship's route around the Caribbean includes ports in the Bahamas, Aruba, Colombia, Costa Rica and Jamaica
02:39In between excursions at these destinations, there's a glittering program of entertainment on board
02:47I'd like to do a lot more of the shows
02:49Yeah
02:50I'm excited about that
02:51The undoubted highlights are four glamorous musical extravaganzas featuring the talents of three singers and six dancers
02:59The newest recruit to the dance troupe is 22-year-old Summer Allen from Milton Keynes
03:05Hi
03:09Ready whenever you are
03:14People kind of, you know, have the story of like dancing from the age of four and then never stopping
03:19But once I got to secondary school, I stopped dance completely
03:23And then I got to like 16, didn't know what I wanted to do
03:26I went to go and watch a musical and I was like, that's what I want to do
03:29This is my first professional contract
03:33My entire cast have done a lot of cruise ships before, so I'm the baby of the group
03:37And definitely learning day by day
03:39Essentially, we're kind of the celebrities on board, you could say
03:45You always have to be very willing to stop and chat to people
03:49Shall we be able to do tonight?
03:51Yes
03:52We look forward to it
03:53You guys are really proud
03:54Thank you so much
03:55We really appreciate it
03:56Thank you
03:57Since a month in New York learning the routines, Summer has spent a further four months on the ship
04:03Being away from home for a long time, I've actually found more challenging than I thought I would
04:08Everyone's like, oh my god, you must be having the best time ever
04:11I'm like, well I am, but I also just really want a Nando
04:14It's like
04:25While the stage crew installed the set for tonight's big show
04:28Summer can compare notes with her more experienced colleague
04:31Dance captain Hayley Harina from New Jersey
04:36Have you spoken to your parents?
04:37Actually, I did, I talked to my mum today
04:39My mum wants to like plan a trip for when I come home because I haven't been
04:43I've literally haven't been home and it'll be a year and a half when I get off the ship
04:47When we get off
04:48It's crazy
04:49Within the cast there are nine members
04:52We spend every second of every day together
04:55They're some of my best friends, they'll be my friends for life
04:58And you get close really quickly
05:00Because it's your first contract, how are you doing like adjusting and not being at home?
05:04Since being here, like I've definitely missed home more than I thought I would
05:08Like I go through phases I think
05:10Yeah, definitely comes in waves
05:12Yeah, everyone like makes it easy though
05:14Like it's quite nice being in a cast of people that have all experienced it before
05:19Because I don't, I don't, I'm not the only one that feels like that
05:23Yeah
05:25In terms of working at sea, I love it
05:27It's just a very, very different life to back home
05:30And unless you've worked at sea, you don't really get it
05:33You do definitely have ups and downs, but get each other through it
05:38That's just the small sacrifice you have to make for living an amazing life
05:43The amazing life is accompanied by a workload that can be intense at times
05:48With multiple rehearsals, technical run-throughs and performances
05:52We have four production shows
05:55And depending on the length of the cruise, depends on how many shows we do
05:59In general we tend to do each show, every cruise
06:02And then that tends to be every other day
06:05We perform in the evenings
06:07We have a show at 7.30 and a show at 9
06:10So essentially I dance, I perform for everyone
06:13And then that's it, I get to be on holiday the rest of the time
06:17So I think the entire contract we might do what?
06:22120?
06:24120-ish?
06:25130?
06:26Yeah
06:27But then that's not including tech run, so it would be like 180
06:30Yeah, if you break that down, divide that by four
06:33God, this is maths I did not think I'd have to do since I left school
06:42On the other side of the Atlantic
06:44Another of the cruise line's newest and plushiest vessels
06:47Is travelling Europe and North Africa
06:52Over the course of 14 days
06:54The cruise's destinations range from the Canary Islands
06:57To Portugal and Morocco
07:01Amongst the treats in store for the passengers
07:03Two weeks of enjoying their meals
07:05Without the effort of cooking anything themselves
07:09Okay, making sure it's crispy
07:11Okay, good job
07:12Masterminding all food on board
07:15Is Philippines-born executive chef Jundiel Marcelo
07:19Chef Norman, are we ready for the Moroccan dinner?
07:22Are you, Chef, still ongoing preparation?
07:23Working on the ship is a bit pressure
07:25I'm dealing with about 3,000 guests
07:28And then about 1,000 of crew
07:30But as long as you love and you have the passion in your work
07:34Everything is possible
07:35Did you taste it?
07:36Yes, I think it's really good
07:38Jundiel spent four years training in the culinary arts
07:41And his career has taken him around the world
07:44His responsibilities range from the simplest of snacks
07:47To fine dining in four specialty restaurants
07:51I'm handling about 200 cooks on the ship
07:54And all the restaurants including Canaletto
07:57The tamarind, the pinnacle grill
07:59And the Saldemar restaurant
08:02The tamarind speciality restaurant
08:04Usually serves Pan-Asian cuisine
08:06But tonight, and once on every cruise
08:09There's an extra special menu
08:11Good afternoon, Tim
08:13How are you?
08:14Good, sir
08:15Okay, are we ready for tonight?
08:16Ready, sir
08:17Okay, let's check
08:18We have the pop-up menu, Marimoto by C
08:21And it's a menu created by Chef Marimoto
08:25He has a lot of restaurants all over the world
08:28Little bit spicy, but you have to reduce a little bit more
08:32Japanese celebrity chef Masaharu Marimoto
08:35Has gained acclaim for his take on fusing Japanese and Western cuisines
08:40And a partnership with the cruise line
08:42Has resulted in a menu featuring some of his classic dishes
08:45Wow, great, very good
08:48Prepared by the onboard chefs
08:50Chef Dodi
08:51Yes, sir
08:52How many reservations we have?
08:5388 so far
08:5488 so far
08:55Yes
08:56Okay, good, good
08:57Overseeing operations for tonight's special menu
08:59Is Dodi Ajan from Indonesia
09:02He's running a team of eight chefs and two sushi chefs
09:05Who must deliver to Marimoto's exacting standards
09:09My chefs, they have a special training
09:12Because we have the signature sushi dish
09:14We have the tempura roll
09:15And we have the tuna pizza
09:17And of course, one of my favourites
09:19The buribop
09:21The ishiyaki buribop is designed to taste great
09:24And add theatre to the passenger's restaurant experience
09:28We have the hot bowl here
09:31Basically, this one is the stone
09:33So we can cook inside this bowl actually
09:37For the rice, especially for the peas
09:39Will be put on the side of the bowl
09:42By the waiter
09:43They will do the live action
09:47Tonight's diners will be expecting a truly memorable meal
09:51But before that's served
09:53There's another challenge
09:54A taste testing
09:55By the senior chefs and waiting staff
09:58Chef Dadi
10:00Yes
10:01I will leave it to you everything
10:02So I will see you in two hours
10:04Yes, sir
10:05Thank you, sir
10:06Thank you, sir
10:07The ship sailing the Caribbean has docked at Montego Bay in Jamaica
10:22Have you got everything?
10:23I think so
10:24Towel
10:25Towel
10:26Card
10:27And for the passengers
10:28The port is the starting point for a choice of multiple different excursions
10:32Into this tropical nation
10:37Jamaica lies around 90 miles south of Cuba
10:40And 500 miles from the southern tip of Florida in the Caribbean Sea
10:46Some 60% of the population lives in urban areas like the capital, Kingston
10:51But even though this island nation is less than a twentieth of the size of the UK
10:55It packs in a lot
10:57From stunning beaches to mountainous areas which give rise to over a hundred rivers
11:03Let's go
11:04Oh, it's gorgeous
11:06Lovely
11:07Amongst the passengers heading out on excursions
11:10Robert and Linda from Milton Keynes
11:12They're in holiday mode
11:14And losing track of time
11:16What we're doing today is Jamaica for a start
11:19You have to think of where we are
11:21Yeah
11:22The couple's cruise is to mark their birthdays
11:26It's not actually his big birthday
11:29That's coming up next year
11:30That's the 70th
11:32That's a nasty one, isn't it Rob?
11:34It is, yeah
11:3569 this time
11:3670 next time
11:37Yeah
11:3868 year
11:39Alright
11:40Alright
11:41But we will be the same age for six weeks
11:43No
11:44No
11:49How many cruises have we took?
11:51Not enough
11:52Not enough cruises
11:53Not enough cruises
11:54No, we need to sort out for about the next ten years
11:56Yeah
11:59The first thing to sort out is more appropriate gear for a waterborne excursion
12:03And it seems waiting outside the ladies is the same the world over
12:19In Jamaica, Robert and Linda are on an excursion as part of their Caribbean cruise
12:24Oh, have a look
12:25You look great, yeah
12:26I look alright
12:27You do?
12:28Very nice as usual
12:29Shall we go?
12:30Yeah
12:32And they're swapping a giant ship for a tiny raft
12:36Wow
12:42The rafts made of bamboo were traditionally used for transporting goods
12:47It's beautiful, isn't it?
12:50But now, floating down the stretch of the 29 mile great river
12:55Is popular with tourists
12:57It's a relaxing way to explore one of the most biodiverse islands in the Caribbean
13:03You're the captain
13:04Yeah
13:05Good
13:06Captain Haleen
13:08Guiding Robert and Linda through the tranquil waters on the hour-long trip, Haleen Barnes
13:14That's cheating
13:18Is that not cheating?
13:21I feel lucky to be here
13:23Yeah
13:25That's the bamboo they make the rafts out of
13:27Wow
13:28Oh, that's warm
13:29Yeah
13:30Can you turn the heat down just a little bit?
13:31Turn the heat down just a little bit?
13:32Turn the heat down just a little bit
13:33Yeah
13:34Where is it from?
13:35UK
13:36Yeah, England
13:37Yeah
13:38It's very cold now
13:39It is very cold
13:40It is cold
13:41Very cold
13:42When is summer?
13:43Maybe one month of the year?
13:44No
13:45No
13:46The trade-off for the scorching heat is a pampering session included in the trip
14:03Wow
14:04Limestone massage
14:05Yeah, limestone massage you say?
14:07Yeah
14:08Crushed limestone has been used for centuries to exfoliate dead skin
14:12And given 85% of Jamaica's surface geology is limestone, there's plenty available for these trips
14:19Yeah, actually, as long as it doesn't rub my... No, because it might rub my fake tan off
14:27So this is going to dry?
14:29Yeah, it's going to dry
14:30Yeah?
14:31And later on, you wash it down
14:32Once the white powder is smeared on, the effect is known as jungle socks
14:37Is it going to take off some of your hairs as well?
14:41There's not many on there
14:42No
14:43It's really nice
14:44Yeah
14:45Thank you
14:46It only takes a few minutes in the Jamaican heat for the limestone to dry
14:52Before the next phase of the pampering
14:55Yeah
14:56That's... My legs are...
14:57That is so soft
14:58That is so soft
14:59I feel the best they've felt for ages
15:00Wow
15:01Really soft
15:02Wholesome oil as well
15:03Yeah
15:04Oh wow
15:05We might slide off the boat next
15:06How many years we've been together?
15:07I don't know now, I'll keep forgetting
15:08Well, you was...
15:09Quite a chance
15:10You was young, 15
15:11What?
15:12What?
15:13Why?
15:14Because you were the best girl in the school
15:15Well, that's a bit jammy, isn't it?
15:16That's a bit jammy
15:17That's a bit jammy
15:18That's it
15:19That's a bit jammy, isn't it?
15:20That's a bit jammy
15:21That's a bit jammy
15:22That's a bit o.t.d
15:25That's true, though
15:26Yeah
15:2750 years...
15:32Two years time?
15:34No
15:35No
15:36No
15:37No
15:39No
15:40No
15:4150 years two years time three years time anyway you haven't changed since I first see you still
15:53as lovely as ever look at that chubby but some love handles oh it's gonna finish I don't really
16:07want it to we'll have to come back you know we'll have to do this again well I've enjoyed it yeah
16:13beautiful I think we should have a birthday every day of the year you know well you can I'll be too old
16:20so it's affected me there's a lovely peaceful river and we enjoyed that I enjoyed it at me
16:39my feet down there all nice and soft now finish with a nice run punch that's strong cheers back at
16:55the ship in Montego Bay it's less than four hours until summer and the other dancers take to the
17:00stage and the new girl is determined to get everything right each show has a different set
17:07so right at the front of the stage we've got numbers going from zero all the way to 16 these
17:13are so that we can make sure that we're always stood in the right space so that every show is
17:17consistent so that if something's happening you're not getting in someone else's way and that is
17:22because for each position we are stood in we are on a specific number so every dancer has hundreds of
17:28numbers for each like across all four of the shows because every single time you move you move to a
17:33number this is what we call the wing this is kind of the entrance to all of the quick change madness
17:41that's going on back here so our costumes are set on the floor they're set in the dressing room everything
17:46there are 800 costume pieces for the nine members of the cast across four shows which is a lot all of
17:56the costumes are made especially and we have a wardrobe team that come on board during our install
18:01process and they fit everything to us Grayson Cole from Pennsylvania is also a dancer but he has
18:09another huge responsibility I'm the wardrobe supervisor along with Ellie one of the other
18:14dancers so between the two of us we are in charge of the maintenance repairs and washing of costumes
18:23there's a lot that happens behind the scenes that people have no idea about everyone thinks it's
18:30this really glamorous life and it's absolutely not if you could see the state of how sweaty we are that
18:36kind of sums it up so we use a mixture of vodkas and water in a spray bottle and the reason we use that
18:45is because we can't wash the costumes every single day so this helps to get rid of the smell or kind of
18:54disinfect it after the show and that way when they dry they don't get stinky and then about once a
19:01month those costumes are getting properly laundered but in the meantime this helps us keep them fresh
19:07and clean in between shows on average the dancers change costumes six or seven times during one 45-minute
19:15show so managing the changes is key so I'm presetting my costumes in reverse order so that as we go
19:23through the show I can grab them from my stock and put them on for a lot of the changes that we have we
19:29don't have a lot of time in between them so what we do is we have things like snaps buttons magnets things
19:37like that to make the garment look like it's a standard garment but it's made that way so we can put
19:43on really quickly and take it off really quickly the costume changes go wrong all the time all it takes
19:49is for you to be frustrated or your hair get caught or for you to have like a sleeve inside out and then
19:56it messes everything up
20:044 000 miles away across the atlantic the european cruise is at sea en route to its next port
20:13it's giving danny and peter from the netherlands
20:17a chance to relax in one of the ship's eight lounges
20:21they've been together 14 years and cruise fans for almost as long
20:26i think we sail about 11 years yeah we started in 2014. so we have been cruising like for more than
20:35more than 20 cruises much more yeah the couple who are holidaying with their teenage nephews
20:41love cruising so much they started their own blog and it's attracted quite a following when we came back
20:48from hawaii we started the page now we have 13 and a half thousand and it's still growing still growing
20:55and it's really nice to connect people yeah around the world the cruising community also stays
21:00connected by partaking in a rather unusual custom a form of hide and seek played with rubber ducks
21:08they have a label with the people who hide it and all the other people they oh i found the duck and they
21:16they could just keep it or we hide it back yeah the game started in 2018 and is played all over the world
21:25with many posting their finds on social media but danny and peter have their own spin on it we are from
21:32haaland we have wooden shoe with tulips typical dutch and what we also have is the label with the qr code
21:41and that's going to our social media page so you can hide this yes i will hide it
21:49first rule of hide and seek is find a good hiding place when you're on a super ship with restaurants
21:56bars a theater sports court spa library and casino there's plenty to choose from
22:02uh let's starting up place where everybody can see an elevator hey buddy use the elevator tip number two
22:11okay don't let anybody see you fake we take the next one thank you
22:21uh okay yes tip three hide up high yes yes yes tip four find a focal point this is the one that we are
22:36looking for okay you can hide one yes public space anyone can find it and lastly tip five pick a place
22:43plenty of people visit this is probably the nicest place to be this is the biggest place to be
22:50and so quiet no one is here so that will be perfect spot i think i think it's a good place that okay
23:01you know now nobody's here so it's my time to shine oh you can sing like in the shower i don't
23:08sing in the shower but i can dance okay i'm the audience i can sit here actually
23:15nobody's here so you can come also i've seen better no you can come you can come you can come
23:26now it's not i have my three seconds of fame yeah so let's have a lunch because i'm yeah okay
23:32in the caribbean the ship has left jamaica as passengers lap up the sunshine dancer summer on her
23:44first professional contract has a little time to herself before final preparations for the big show
23:51ramp up being away for eight months at a time it's really important to stay connected to home like i've
23:59got young siblings so it's nice to still be able to talk to them and watch them grow up virtually even
24:04though you're not physically there you feel really guilty missing that time but when you're able to
24:09call them it does make a huge difference hi hi you okay it's just a little bit yeah i'm just on the
24:23outside deck it's nice and sunny what are you having i hope it's vegetarian yeah of course it's a
24:35veggie burger yeah obviously i was gonna say not that much has changed since i've been away has it
24:40no you haven't missed that much she's still vegetarian okay so i was looking at our um
24:46update on the countdown so now we're at 99 days it's gone into double double digits 99 so are you
24:51calm yeah yeah nice to see you bye love you see you soon bye bye so i've got 99 days till my parents
25:06and my sister's come on board so they're staying for a cruise which is really exciting i can't wait
25:11those like little checkpoints they make like such a huge difference none of them have done anything
25:18like this before so for them this is me taking a risk and doing something different and i think
25:23they're really proud of that and yeah it really excites them that they can come on and see it for
25:29themselves as well um but yeah they they're super proud on the other side of the atlantic the cruise
25:44ship traveling the european route is making good time to its next destination in the galley dodie is
25:51keeping a hawkish eye on standards to ensure everything's top-notch for the gourmet dinner okay
25:58guys just checking everybody ready for tonight yes with a menu including 10 varieties of fish and
26:05seafood the fusion of eastern and western traditions is intended to be a very special experience for a
26:12select handful of diners how many so far do you have for the for now we have allowed 200 already 200
26:19okay but first the pressure is on as soon there'll be a taste test by the senior chefs and waiting staff
26:2730 minutes more please everybody
26:39as the caribbean cruise cuts through the ocean summer and the other dancers are having a final
26:46run-through before the first of tonight's two performances so tonight we've got our show all that
26:53on which is a musical variety performance a little bit apprehensive we haven't done the show in a couple
26:58weeks because of the way that the cruises work so apprehensive that i want everything to run smoothly but
27:04i'm excited to do it again because it's been it's been a while hi guys oh sure looks good yeah it looks
27:14really good i have no notes for lazy river our dance captain hayley she gives us notes so her job is to
27:22meticulously watch each of us slow it down zoom in check that we're all doing the same thing so that from
27:29the day we put the show on the ship to the day we leave it looks the same um rubber band when we do
27:36these when we do these poses these one uh just don't move out of them early hit hit down yeah like
27:44sharp hold uh great make sure you're on five i think you started on five and when you move you
27:50moved in then you moved back out to five but i think you're traveling a lot on these you have really
27:55long legs so just make sure you stay because you ended up in front of summer yeah it looks really
28:00nice when all of our bodies are together okay um yeah that's it great job thank you so have a good
28:07show have a good show i have been part of this company for four and a half months now five months
28:15if i'm including rehearsals i feel a little bit of extra pressure because i'm a new member of the team
28:21i don't want people to feel that i'm under qualified to do the job just because i'm younger or just
28:27because i'm not as experienced so as much as the team would never ever make me feel like that i want to
28:35be perfect in every way because i want to prove that i'm just as capable as someone that has been doing
28:41us for years over in europe perfection is also the ambition before tonight's special menu event for
28:56passengers chef dodie and his team must impress their colleagues hey guys everybody let's go start for the
29:03food testing we can do first the beef we can do now then after that the fish i need the the noodles
29:14every time that we have the marimoto during that day we will preparing and then we will be having the
29:21tasting to check the consistency of everything and then we need to taste based on according to the
29:29recipe and the presentations this is a very special dinner for us the only one one night pop up it's
29:37like more challenge for me a little bit pressure there are less than 10 minutes until the taste test
29:46and 22 different dishes to complete from a lobster pad thai and tempura calamari with quinoa and white miso
29:54dressing to beef tenderloin steak with japanese style mushroom sauce so this one will be the noodle for
30:03the we call it the shrimp three-way one is the tempura the other one is with the bread crumb then the last one
30:11is the teriyaki grilled skewered good more this one i need more bambu okay let's go
30:31right away the calamari finish it up then gyoza yeah gyoza will be ready 20 seconds then after that you will
30:39stand by for fire the good job guys i would like to thank you all now to make it sure everything is
30:58hot maintain the quality maintain the presentation okay let's start tasting guys yeah all right this is a
31:05how much ishiaki bulibok the yellow tail fish wow very good very fresh thank you no it is your
31:13best then we have the this one is a crispy sea bus with the sweet sour sauce we have a good very good
31:22uh fresh sea bus and there's the sweetness yes maintain the crispiness very good very crispy and you
31:30you know you feel already the freshness of the fishes very good chef doddy everything is good
31:35everything is thank you so thank you so much so let's go let's have a taste all all the stuff including
31:44the restaurant stuff the kitchen stuff everybody will taste the waiter tasted because they need to
31:50understand and the flavor profile of every dish so when they're going to serve to the guest they can
31:57express themselves how they taste it
32:04controlling the quality of food service and amenities offered by the cruise line is demanding
32:09but doable unfortunately controlling the weather is beyond its ability the ship has docked at porto in
32:17portugal which is experiencing an unusually rainy month undeterred danny peter and nephew sven and liam
32:25are taking to it like ducks to water and they're off on an excursion oh thank you
32:32oh like good today we are going to do a tic-tac tour we go to the central historical portal we're going to
32:41see the bridge you know what bridge i told you the itinerary i didn't know danny is a meticulous planner
32:48and has already mapped out the day with his camera poised to take photos for their blog you do the
32:54research i do the research you just go okay who's going to write with who i'm going to write with
33:00then why because of the pictures oh and he does know the research okay well we just have fun yes
33:09porto is portable's second largest city and is located 170 miles north of the capital
33:21along with being the birthplace of port wine porto is also known for its historic architecture
33:27vibrant culture and charming narrow streets
33:32navigating the city's steep cobblestone roads can be challenging by car or on foot
33:37but there is a fun way to explore the city okay here are our tuk-tuks yes here they are tuk-tuks
33:46originated in japan in the early 20th century but have since become popular with tourists in several
33:53european cities so let danny do the research and we enjoy the show yes i think it's really hard to plan
34:03everything to the whole day it is i don't think that's something for me to do i know actually
34:09because you guys they are not the best planner but i'm happy to do the planning because you have free
34:16time to do your stop you just have to go with me and just have fun
34:27first stop is the don luis ii bridge one of porto's most iconic landmarks completed in 1886
34:34it's known for its striking iron architecture and sweeping views over the duro river
34:41but only on a clear day i don't know anywhere without photo but we have to hide the umbrella or hide
34:49umbrella one two three
34:50okay let's go training cats and dogs
35:03so guys are you enjoying so far yes yes absolutely besides the the rain it's fantastic
35:09in a way you get the true experience of porto because it doesn't happen as much in summer
35:13obviously okay but in porto is a city that rains a lot and then it's kind of unpredictable the fog is
35:20it's some also on the on the top of the river is something that it's very typical of porto giving it
35:26like a mystic uh vibe to it and it's something that it's very much sang in songs about the city so
35:34yeah do you know any of the songs i do actually one of the main ones is a piece by a
35:40and a local musician which is called ruy veloze and it would be something like
35:45uh i think we're having more fun
36:01we'll find you guys are you this is something better than danny in the shower
36:13another key landmark is porto cathedral dating back to the 12th century it's one of the city's
36:19oldest monuments what do you think about this cushion i think it's very nice i see a lot of
36:25wet people and we're sitting inside the tuk-tuk there's no problem at all yeah for us we are still
36:30dry a little bit and we are having fun i mean we don't have to wear a poncho we don't no and you
36:37choose the right uncle right i think yes no i'm not talking about you i'm talking about you
36:46while there's still scoop for humor the weather is beyond a joke it's time to head back to the ship
36:53see you bye bye guys what a lovely day
37:03back in the caribbean the weather is also less than ideal
37:09it could create a problem with tonight's big dance performances
37:15so it is quite rocky um this tends to happen for the show
37:23there's now a distinct swell to the waves
37:30the most challenging part of this job for me is the rockiness because that's something i've never
37:35had to experience before a it's never the same you know you don't know what direction these waves are
37:41gonna throw you but also b i just wasn't prepared for it so your muscles have to be really strong you
37:48have to be constantly switched on constantly engaged prepared at any moment for the stage to just move to
37:54move to the other side and you know for the floor to meet you halfway this is a little bit irregular
38:02which is kind of annoying when it's like steady you can kind of tell which way you're gonna go but
38:08this is just slamming us all over the place so should be interesting we'll see how it goes but yeah
38:13hopefully we'll all stay upright
38:24we'll see you next time
38:29tonight passengers on the europe and north africa cruise can opt for a special menu devised by japanese
38:32celebrity chef masaharu morimoto chef dodi and his team are midway through service
38:38vegetable tofu how long one minute two minutes three minutes okay
38:47for morimoto we do like almost 90 table at night never stop it's never ending
38:54welcome to morimoto so i have our cocktail menu here and here is our dinner menu thank you very much
39:07anticipating a culinary treat danny and peter with their nephews sven and liam so how was your day so
39:13far yeah it was nice yeah really good did you go outside yeah all day okay let's have a look shrimp
39:22true life this is interesting it says cooked cook table side and hot stone ball i think i do that
39:30one of the menu's signature dishes includes rice yellowtail a fish species prized amongst sushi chefs
39:38and a raw egg yolk but assembling the ingredients is just the start here you go peter i have our signature
39:47shiakiburi bar one of the signature dish is the shiakiburi bar we are going to sear the yellowtail on the
39:55side of the hot stone bowl so that stone bowl has been heated up to 230 degrees celsius
40:02then we need to mix everything because there's a vegetable inside the bowl
40:06that's so nice it's really nice thank you every food tasting this is the dish that we are looking
40:16forward thank you very much please enjoy everyone thank you thank you thank you it's really good
40:26really good chicken now my fish is awesome really nice this it's still hot i think it's going to be
40:36hot for the whole day the heat is still on in the galley with more main courses and four different
40:45desserts on offer from a white chocolate lime ganache to a baked tofu cheesecake look like another
40:53five six table last one hopefully what a day here go liam i have your dark chocolate spear and i have the
41:06hot caramel sauce here and i'm going to pour over the top so inside you will see uh marshmallow cream
41:13there's also a wheat vanilla cream and the dark chocolate are baked so that's nice they both look good
41:19yeah yeah we can eat this every day it's a big thumbs up at the table and behind the scenes
41:35bye guys guys listen up yeah really appreciate what you did everybody as a team tonight thank you
41:49i do definitely still get that like i want to peek through and see how many people are in the
42:12audience and if it's really busy like you do get a little bit of a buzz something goes wrong in our
42:19work it's very obvious to an untrained eye to everybody and so there's that little bit of extra
42:25pressure because we are expected to do everything perfectly at all times because there's constantly
42:30eyes on us
42:52it doesn't feel like a job because i want to do it i love doing it i love performing
42:56i get to leave my heart and soul on the stage every night
43:12i still get that nervous feeling because not like it's not like i can't do it but i want to do a good
43:18job
43:22i absolutely love that my responsibility is to entertain everybody it's what i believe i was
43:27born to do all of that cringy stuff
43:32it's a great responsibility to have
43:45so behind the scenes of the show the only way i can describe it is like we're swans and you know
43:53on top it's very calm it's very glamorous and backstage it's like all crazy the quick changes
44:00you know the speed we're getting changed is more exhausting than the actual dance the once we step out
44:06of that curtain that's the easy bit that's the bit we've trained forever to do but the backstage ends up
44:12being choreography that you have to kind of sink in as well the costumes break all the time because
44:19especially if you are in a hurry and you rip something off and it gets caught on your heel or
44:24you know you pull at the wrong thing it breaks all the time
44:28yeah it's quite rocky so a few of us have been kind of thrown to the side a couple times but hopefully no
44:35one's noticed apart from that everything's going well um yeah no costume malfunctions apart from the shoe
44:52dance is something that
45:02it is my form of therapy in every way in life and it's it isn't work it's what i love to do
45:10and the feeling of you know being able to express myself through an art form a physical art form at
45:19that it's just incredible it's something that unless you do it you don't really know how it feels
45:28the missing home that's is worth every second
45:40it's just a little bit of rockiness here and there but it's fine now time to rest
46:01do it again next time in the caribbean there's a fancy feast for formal night 50 more calories so
46:16that's that's it oh yes and in the dominican republic one a fun trick is hard to swallow
46:23well only one thing can get divorcees george clooney and julia roberts to team up that's
46:32trying to break up their daughter's wedding film four's got a ticket to paradise next tonight but
46:37tomorrow night it's bob mortimer versus richard ioward again and this time no one's keeping a straight face
46:42a new series of eight out of ten cat studs countdown begins friday night at nine here on channel four
