00:00Rueling series, does that influence your behaviour on the field also, that outburst that happens?
00:06Not really, you know, I think once you're done with the match, you're done with the match and you move on to the next one and you want to play the next one as competitive and as best as you can.
00:18And for us, I can say it doesn't really matter what we have done in the last match, good or bad, whatever's happened in the last match has gone by.
00:26We want to move on and we want to perform the best in the next one that we can.
00:33Shubhan, as a player, you've been involved in 5 match series earlier, but this is the first time as a captain and you've come to a very hard country like England and as you said, it's all gone to the last hour.
00:43So, as a captain, physically, mentally and emotionally, what kind of toll has this taken in comparison to, say, being just a player?
00:49It's been very exciting and I'm, one day before the last test match, I'm here and I'm very excited and looking forward to play the last test match and hopefully win this one, level the series for us.
01:02It would be a great achievement for us.
01:04Shubhan, to your left, obviously you would rather focus on yourselves, but the fact that Ben Stokes is not playing the competitor that he is, the influence that he's had on the series, how do you look at the fact that he won't be lining up over the next five days?
01:17A big miss for definitely England. I think the way whenever he comes onto bowl or bat, he always makes things interesting. He always makes something happen. So from their perspective, I think it is definitely a loss for them.
01:33But having said that, you know, the players who come in to play for the country, they are as competitive and they bring as much as to the table as any of the players.
01:42Shubhan, I appreciate you answered already, but can I ask you in English what you made of Gambier's outburst yesterday and is he under pressure given everything, the toil that this series has taken on everyone?
01:57Not really. I mean, if someone's, if a pitch creator is going to come and ask us to not look at the wicket and look at the wicket from three metres from behind, that's not something that has happened to us before.
02:09We've been playing cricket for such a long time. And as long as, like I said, as long as you are under rubber spikes or you're barefoot, you're allowed to look at the wicket from close quarters.
02:17And that's the job of the coach and the captain. So I don't know why the curator didn't let us or didn't allow us to do that.
02:24Hi, Shubhan. Number three has been a little bit of, you know, a concern, if that's the word, for you guys.
02:34And also the fact when you have a lot of youngsters making their debut and like, you know, and a lot not so memorable performances, how do you handle them?
02:41Like as a captain, we have always spoken about, you know, being, communicating well and, you know, having your back around them.
02:47So how do you, you know, back youngsters when they don't have a good India office or something like that?
02:54He scored a half century in the last test medal. So I don't think he had a bad game. He had a good game.
03:00He got out on the first ball in the second innings. That can happen to any player.
03:04But I think I was, someone was telling me, I think he scored a half century and outside of India after two or three years.
03:10So that's a big plus for us.
03:14Shubhan, while you go into the series with the opportunity to draw the series, you said it's a great achievement.
03:20Can you just kind of elaborate on that, how much you've learned yourself as a captain,
03:25as well as the kind of team that now you can foresee in the future developing into, like, why and how significant this to all would be for you, an Indian team?
03:35Very significant. I mean, if you look at the kind of cricket that we have played, sometimes the scorecard of the series,
03:45as in where we are in the series, doesn't determine that.
03:48I think every match that we have played, it was very difficult to decide which team is going to win after four days of cricket.
03:57If we are able to do that for every match, for four matches, coming outside of India with a relatively young team,
04:03I think it is going to be a big achievement for us if we are able to level the series.
04:08And the series has been a great learning curve from me.
04:12You know, there are some things that you can only learn from experience,
04:16and I have learned so much from these four matches that we have played.
04:20And hopefully we are going to finish on a high.
04:22Shubhaman, if you have been injured or injured, because of the four bowlers' wicket for this match,
04:30what is our situation?
04:31Because we have got a extra race for our bowlers' two days, so what will the difference be?
04:36Yes sir, the difference is very difficult when we have been fielding for 160 over.
04:43It is not easy when you are fielding for three days, especially in the wickets where there is a lot of fast bowling in the spinners.
04:52So I think our fast bowlers and our team are in a good space.
04:57Luckily, our players are not available to us, but having said that,
05:06we are going to be able to decide the wicket for five days for five days for five days,
05:16so we will decide that we will be able to decide the wicket for five days for five days.
05:20Shubhaman, the first look of the wicket, you are saying that you will decide later,
05:25but England have not gone ahead with their specialist spinner Liam Dawson for this game.
05:30Are India going to think on those lines, and what is the status with Arshidip?
05:33Could we see a debut for him tomorrow?
05:35Like I said, we are going to take a decision on the playing eleven later this evening.
05:39And yes, they haven't gone with a front line spinner, but I think Bethel and Root,
05:46they are going to have their spinning options with them.
05:50And luckily for us, Washington and Jadeja, they have done such a good job with the bat and with the bowl.
05:56So on their front, it is a no-brainer for us.
05:59Arshidip, he is being asked to get ready back.
06:02He is definitely, he is being asked to get ready.
06:05Like I said, we are going to take a decision later this evening.
06:09I will go have a look at the wicket.
06:10I haven't had a chance to look at the wicket, see how the weather is going to be in the next five days,
06:14and then take a decision.
06:16Captain, if you can specify, what is the main reason that has convinced you to play a batter,
06:22batting option till number eight, and not a specialist bowler so far in the series?
06:26I mean, if you look at Washington, he is someone who gives us so much control with the bowling.
06:37And his batting has been a really, really, really big plus for us.
06:42And we are fortunate to have players like that in our team, you know, who can prevent a collapse
06:48whenever it happens in the lower middle order.
06:51We have seen that that was one of the areas where we thought we needed some work, our lower middle order.
06:56And with him coming in, I think we have improved that area.
07:00Shubhman, there have been several incidents throughout this series of teams sort of coming
07:06together or, you know, arguing on the field. How would you describe the relationships between
07:11the England and India teams?
07:13I think the relation is fantastic, but when you are on the field, you are trying to win a game
07:18at the end of the day, and both the teams have been very competitive. And sometimes when you are
07:23competitive, you know, in the heat of the moment, you do or say things that you might not do.
07:29But I think once the match is over, there is mutual respect between both the teams.
07:34So there are no regrets for anything that's gone on on the field?
07:37No, not at all.
07:41Just on that, there have been three incidents at Lourdes and at the end of the last game,
07:48and then again yesterday. Are you looking at those as separate incidents each individually?
07:53Or do you think that over your trip, maybe the, I don't know, the hospitality hasn't been
07:59the level that you would expect?
08:01No, nothing of that sort. I think these are three very separate moments,
08:05not correlated at all. I think I've already explained what happened at Lourdes and about
08:13even the incident that happened on the last day in the previous test match. I've given my
08:18thoughts and opinions on that. And what happened yesterday I thought is just absolutely unnecessary.
08:23I mean, it's not the first time that we were having a look at the wicket. And we have been
08:29here for almost, I think, two months. And like I said, a coach has every right to be able to go
08:36close quarters and have a look at the wicket. And I didn't think that there was anything wrong with
08:41that I actually don't know why, why the curator would not allow us to go have a look at the wicket.
08:49Shubhan, you just spoke about having all-rounders in your team in the lower middle order.
08:53As a captain, what kind of challenges is it for you to sort of, if you have six bowling options,
08:59to, you know, ration the number of overs over six options? What are the thoughts that go through and
09:05how do you decide game by game? It's very difficult. You know, when you're playing six bowlers,
09:09you know that one or two bowlers are definitely going to go under bowl because you have to,
09:15sometimes what I, what I felt in the series, like in the last match, a lot of people also felt that
09:21Washington would have come in earlier, which is, which is a valid point. But sometimes when you're out
09:27in the middle, you see with this ball, when there are two spinners bowling early in the innings,
09:31it's very hard to maintain the ball and the fast bowlers go out of the game for about eight to ten
09:36overs because then you again need to maintain the ball. So in, in hindsight, yeah, you can, there,
09:44there would always be opinions and there would always be thoughts and you could have done this,
09:48could have done that. But what matters is when you are out there in the middle, you want to be
09:51able to make a decision that you think would suit the best for that moment. And when you're playing
09:56with six bowling options, there would definitely be, uh, some opinions where, you know, one bowler is
10:02going to go under bowl, but it's good to have more bowling options rather than not having bowling
10:09options for sure. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
