00:00Um, it's quite busy here, um, we're staying, you know, right on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, which is a very popular, um, area, and then, um, as soon as, uh, you know, at around 2 o'clock, 2.30-ish, um, uh, we started to get, uh, tsunami warnings, uh, on our phones, and, um, everything pretty much changed at that point.
00:24Um, we happened to be out of the city when the first one came in, so we didn't get back into the city until around 6 o'clock, uh, but everything was, all the stores were closed down, everything was very quiet, uh, people had left the beach at that point, there were, uh, police officers driving up and down the main, uh, street in front of the beach, telling people to leave the beach.
00:49Um, we were concerned, um, I mean, we weren't really concerned for our own safety, we were doing what, uh, the state officials told us to do, they said, you know, to either move away from the coast or to get, uh, at least to the fourth floor of a building, and we're staying on the 11th floor, so we felt pretty comfortable and that we were going to be safe.
01:14Um, but, you know, we, we didn't know what was going to happen, we didn't know if perhaps the, uh, oceanfront would be, um, seriously compromised, um, uh, if, you know, we could lose power or water or, you know, have infrastructure be disrupted.
01:35We, we were concerned about all of that, um, and we're feeling a little relieved now, we're feeling like maybe the, the worst of the threat is past us, we hope, uh, but we were pretty worried for several hours there.
02:05Yeah, well, we were, um, I was with my family, like I said, we're on vacation, we were about to start a hike, and, um, my husband showed me that he had gotten the warning on his phone.
02:26Um, and it, it was very clear, it said, you are in danger, get away from coastal waters, um, and this was at 2.44 p.m., and, um, you know, at that point, we were actually far away from the coast, so we felt pretty comfortable.
02:42Um, but, you know, the, the warnings came, you know, about every 30 to 60 minutes after that, um, and so, you know, and, you know, they were saying, you know, the, the wave's going to hit in three hours, or the wave's going to hit in two hours, so, you know, really warning people that this was coming at a specific time.
03:04Um, and it was supposed to hit around 7.10 p.m., and shortly after that, you know, we didn't see a change in what was happening at the beach and the water, and in fact, there were still at least a dozen people on the beach from what I could see, um, and people seemed to relax after that.
03:25Uh, people were, uh, hooting and hollering from their balconies and singing and waving their phones, um, and shortly after that, everyone sort of, uh, retreated into their, uh, hotel rooms or condos, and, um, I would, and, you know, you saw the traffic return to the, um, streets.
03:45It, it, it appears as if people no longer feel worried, uh, about this, and, um, you know, we're certainly not at this point planning to change our plans.
