The Block Season 21 Episode 3
Transcript
00:00It's a new build. I thought this is a reno show. You told me we were renoing. Previously on The Block
00:07They're so big. They are massive. Five new teams arrived in a brand new location.
00:12Dasvid is beautiful. One of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The perfect setting for season 21 of The Block.
00:22There is a lot to do. Come on in. This is it. Welcome to The Block. No stress levels?
00:26Oh no stress levels for the roof. You just got to look. We've got to look like you know what you're doing.
00:31We're doing bathroom week one.
00:34Just a bit overwhelmed. There's no hiding from anything. No. You've got a camera in your face in the first second. One way or another. I'm getting membrane on that floor.
00:43It's waterproof Wednesday after all.
00:46Lots going on. You are getting a little worried. A little bit. Worrying doesn't do much. Like you can't. You're not going to worry your room into existence.
00:53You think you're going well one second. The next three curve balls are throwing it out.
00:57There's a big storm brewing.
01:03The pressure was on. These guys are in a world of pain right now.
01:07Oh my god. Waterproofing. We haven't got there yet.
01:11Right. What's a barber and a hairdresser doing finishing their waterproofing before everyone else?
01:21Let me just say you have made it a cut above the rest. Are you really proud of yourself?
01:28Benny you see all these big blobs everywhere? Yeah yeah.
01:32I got knocked back from the waterproofing. What the hell is that? Hey! What are you doing?
01:40I just asked you like five minutes ago. You're not allowed to waterproof. If I give you an instruction,
01:45you can't disobey it. So you've disobeyed my instruction. So now I've lost trust here.
01:50No I don't think... No I've lost trust. Because you've just gone behind my back.
01:54Ah! Ah!
02:04Yeah, gearing up for another day on the block. Waterproof Wednesday turned into a one coat
02:09Wednesday. But at least we got something on the ground. So we'll um, finish waterproofing this
02:14morning and I'll have someone tiling by this afternoon. It would have been nice to get two coats on last
02:19night because there was a big storm last night. Then probably 45 minutes later it was gone.
02:38I've got my waterproofing here first thing this morning and just get tracking.
02:43Our house is different in the way it's got the brick and out of all the facades it's
02:48probably the best facade. And the interior layout of our team's houses is exactly the same.
02:54So it will be down to the finer details to make their bathroom stand out from the rest.
03:00So the vision that we are going for is trying to keep it quite um, earthy and we're trying to
03:06weave our way around having a shower screen. So we would love just essentially you know a wet area.
03:11Just earthy and organic and warm I think. Moody. Moody. We're in a pretty good place.
03:17So I'm confident we'll be right by Sunday. After last night's storm this morning's wake up is a
03:23little bit too cold for West Aussie police officer Taz. Freezing. The only reason I'm not wearing
03:29more layers is because they're all covered in plaster glue and other crazy stuff. Oh so much
03:36different at home. It was cold. It wasn't cold. It was cold. Yeah usually you can wake up and it's like 30 to 35 back home.
03:49But today's like 13 degrees, 14 degrees and feeling every bit of it. Week one we're excited we're good.
03:57We've made waterproof Wednesday. Waterproof's on the wall. Such a relief.
04:01Today's Thursday so we've got to get the second coat of waterproofing on first thing this morning.
04:06Then we've got to get tiles on the floor. So that's our plan for today. As long as the floor's tiled
04:11we can deal with the rest later on. We can start getting plumbed in by the end of the week.
04:16Instantly I was just drawn to the facade of house three. I feel like it just complements what I'm going
04:21with inside the house. And for Britt and Taz in house three there's one key word inspiring them
04:28in their bathroom design. Tranquil. Is tranquil a word? Tranquility? Tranquil. Tranquil's a word isn't it?
04:34Tranquil. Yeah. Yeah I know. I was just asking. So my idea is that you walked in the door and you'd see
04:40your shower with a half nib wall which curves around. With a freestanding bath that also curves
04:46around that nib wall. Beautiful curved fluted glass. Beautiful curved fluted vanity. Beautiful.
04:53The bathroom's the main objective today but we need to start planning for landscaping week in
04:58you know eight weeks nine weeks because that'll win me this game. I have found something on marketplace
05:04on the down low. There's a tree that I want to go dig out about an hour away so hopefully I can go steal
05:11the van and we can go for a cruise and I can go dig out some trees. How are you feeling? Morning. Feeling
05:21good. Heading into pre-stop. Happy Thursday. Bit of a change in weather isn't it? It's muddy and slippery
05:30out there too so be very mindful of that today. Stick to the walkways please. If you've got any
05:36deliveries we need to know about it specifically traffic. Okay well have a good day stay safe and
05:41we'll chat tomorrow. Cheers. How were you this morning? Feeling chipper. That's what. After yesterday's little
05:54mini cyclone that went through for a good hot 20 minutes. Spent two and a half hours yesterday on
05:58my hands and knees blow drying the floor and the water's literally coming in through the window.
06:03You stupid boy. Hello. And then from the window and then we're sort of going to sleep underneath.
06:09Doing a dance. A seeping underneath the window was the water found the star.
06:19House number five. Definitely not rustic but the classic vibe but just a bit cleaner. So what are
06:26the key features you need for your bathroom? A bath, a shower and a hand towel and a sink.
06:32Snap. We're halfway there. It's that simple. Yep absolutely. Chuck in a tile, bit of grout and a
06:40couple of hot tradies to lay it all and do you know what? You have a bathroom. Like this.
06:46Dreamland. It's almost eight o'clock. We are halfway through our second coat for waterproofing.
06:52A little issue with our Tyler, with his certificate of currency. Just need to be changed. So he's
06:58currently in block prison.
07:05Not a great place for me, block prison. Block prison. Block prison is the site office for
07:10inductions. Our Tyler had everything up to date. Just his certificate of currency
07:15wasn't supplied and he cannot supply that until that office opens for insurance. So as soon as that's
07:21open, he'll get an email. He'll be back on site probably another half hour. So as soon as he's out
07:25we'll finish off the waterproofing and then we're probably going to have two hours of drying and then
07:29hopefully we're going to get approval maybe around 10, 10.30. The in-floor heating guys are going to come
07:35in, do the in-floor heating, which should take an hour and a half. Do the flooring and they should be
07:41here until about five o'clock. We should be all tiled by today. All we need is the
07:45tiler to get out of block prison and get into house number five.
07:54You've got a little makeshift office. Yeah, the Bunnings office. Got a good desk, get a good seat.
08:03Yeah, it'll do. House number one. Top of the court, highest elevation with the best view. Can you guys
08:11believe that you're standing in the block? I know. I know, it's so wild. It's still surreal. It's sort
08:16of sunk in now. We're in the thick of it. Yeah we are. We're well and truly in the thick of it now.
08:20With all five houses only getting one coat of waterproofing on yesterday, everyone is pushing
08:25to have their second coat dry, ready and inspected so they can begin tiling today. Especially our most
08:32experienced renovators, Victorians Emma and Ben in house one. We've renovated seven bathrooms before.
08:38No, I think it's more than that. Ours is dry and quick. Ours is dry and quick. We've got two heaters,
08:41we've got three fans and a heat gun. So the whole design of the bathroom, I wanted it to be
08:48kind of warm spa vibes, I guess, in the Dalesford area. Green, inviting, mood lighting. A greeny bathroom.
08:55Yeah. When you've got all this waiting time, how are you filling the time? We're planning. And I bought some
09:02soap. Is that mainly for Ben though? Yeah. Yeah, it is. I need it. I smell.
09:10Next door Perth's hand and can are positive in their chances of delivering a complete bathroom to
09:15the judges on Sunday. It's all humming along. I think everyone's doing really well this week.
09:21The fact that everyone did get some waterproofing on Wednesday is like insane. So good hustle.
09:26We've found our groove and our rhythms. So like, yeah, we'll be dancers. House two is our little home
09:33now. Our little passion project on the block. The design of our bathroom is a tranquil sanctuary
09:40with lots of rounded curves that make you feel it is and peaceful. We have a beautiful curved wall in
09:46the shower and this finger tile floor to ceiling and you know, like these very like special features
09:51that do mean the world to us. And now Han and Kan just have to wait for their waterproofer slash Tyler
09:58to turn up and get their waterproofing inspected so they can continue work in their bathroom.
10:04Hey bud, how are ya? Are you good? Yeah, are you here bud? I'm here.
10:14So Thursday morning, Tim our Tyler slept over his alarm after a big day waterproofing. He didn't
10:20hear it go off. He's like, I'm getting up now. He's an hour and a half away. So I was like, oh my god.
10:26I was like, no. We're running behind. Yeah, I'm hoping, do you reckon that we got enough on last night?
10:32Oh, there should be enough on. We did a really thick first coat of waterproofing last night
10:38and we had all the fans going. It was drying really quick for the first coat so we kind of just
10:44doubled up a little bit and so it was kind of like a really thick coat and then we had like a half
10:50of a coat. So I was like, maybe it'll pass. So I called Dan in for an inspection. I was going
10:56around and then he went around behind me so it was like a working second coat. So I've gone in for the
11:01inspection and Hannah's sort of saying to me that they've kind of done one and a half coat which
11:05I've never heard of. They were doing a working second coat which I'm so confused by what that even
11:10is and what it means. So I thought I'd just give Ada a ring because he was here last night. Hey mate,
11:16yeah house two, I'm in here now and they reckon they went over it when it was still slightly wet.
11:20Do you want to come and have a look?
11:24Hi. How are you going?
11:26I heard you're ready for an inspection. Yes please. No you're not.
11:30I was here last night when he couldn't get his second coat on and he's coming back to do his
11:34second coat. Second and a half. No, I'm serious.
11:37So no, he was like I think we might need it but we've measured it all around it was a thousand.
11:44Like I'm like because it was like put first one on I was going around and then he went around
11:49behind me so it's like a working second coat and it's like all thick and it was more than
11:54more than thick. That's not how it works. You can't do one coat. That would be one coat. For
11:57waterproofing you need to do one coat. You've got to let it fully cure. Then you do a second coat.
12:03There is no working coat. Two coats. It's fine. It's fine. I'll put another one. No, two coats.
12:07I'll put another one. Is he covered? Oh sick. Um yeah, maybe 20 minutes away. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:15Am I allowed to start? Nah, he has to. He has to. You can help him when he comes but he has to do it.
12:23You can't start. All right. Yeah, because you're not licensed. Cool, cool, cool.
12:32Hey, what are you doing? He's here. Hey? He's here. No, he's not. He is. He's stood up.
12:46What are you doing? I've just gone back in the house to see how progress is going and I've just
12:50seen Hannah walk out with a brush and waterproofing. You can't be waterproofing. I just said you can't
12:56waterproof. It's here though. No, he's not. Where is he? Your shoes on because you're not waterproofing.
13:04All right. I just asked you like five minutes ago, you're not allowed to waterproof. If I give
13:08you an instruction, you can't disobey it. You're not a licensed waterproofer. You're not allowed to
13:14waterproof. You're allowed to help waterproof if the waterproofer is in there doing the task.
13:19Like we said yesterday, he's not here and you've started waterproofing
13:23after I've asked you not to. So you've disobeyed my instruction. So now I've lost trust here.
13:29No, I've lost trust because you've just gone behind my back.
13:40Hey, what are you doing? I just said you can't waterproof. If I give you an instruction,
13:46you can't disobey it. You're not a licensed waterproofer. You're not allowed to waterproof.
13:51You're allowed to help waterproof if the waterproofer is in there doing the task.
13:55So you've disobeyed my instruction. So now I've lost trust here.
14:00No, I've lost trust because you've just gone behind my back.
14:03I couldn't be any clearer. So the best thing is let's get out of here. Let's get the fan back in here.
14:08Dan shut me down, told me that I wasn't allowed to touch anything.
14:19Yeah. Yeah.
14:24Yeah. I've stopped it now. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks, mate. Bye.
14:30I was just talking to Ada, like, because you've done that waterproofing, how does he now tick it off?
14:35You've got no proof that you're a waterproofer, a licensed, it's his license.
14:39I'm understanding now and I'm hearing you clearly now. I'm really, I actually, I'm genuinely sorry
14:44because I thought, because I was doing it last night, that, and because Tim's here and he's coming,
14:49he could just go... But he's not here. He's not physically here.
14:51He just said he's just getting a few things from you. I am genuinely sorry. I don't want to lose your job.
14:56So this morning, like, you're sort of trying to get around and saying that you kind of did the two coats,
15:01when really you didn't. So that was okay. I'm like, okay, I'll let that go, misunderstanding.
15:06Then I've given a clear instruction and then you've gone and right behind my back and done it anyhow.
15:10So this is where I'm thinking, hang on, there's some shifty things going on.
15:14Like, I'm starting to get... But that's, that's where I'm sort of at at the moment.
15:18Yeah. He, like, thought I was being dodgy. Um, so, yeah, that hit hard. I was like, genuine,
15:28like, I didn't want to, like, lose, for you to lose trust because it's not my intention.
15:33I was like, I want to do everything right. And, um, I don't want you to lose trust in me.
15:40And he was, um... It's okay. Yeah. And I was like, I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
15:48There's so much information flying in the first week. And that was just one little parcel. And that's
15:53just a lesson. It would have happened at any point that you would have taken on a trade,
15:57that you're not qualified for, because you're handy hand. And you can do it all.
16:01There's so much going on. And I think often when I'm focused on something,
16:06I don't really listen properly. So I am genuinely sorry for not listening properly and taking that
16:11on board. I'm not going to shut him down. He can come in and waterproof.
16:15But you can't be doing that. Yeah, I don't want to lose your trust. Like,
16:19I'm not trying to pull the wall or be shifty or nothing like that. So when he comes,
16:22you can't... I'm just going to let him do it now. Don't even help him. I just want him to do it.
16:26Yeah. Okay. All right. Thank you. Appreciate it.
16:29Like, I'm disappointed in myself because I didn't listen. But live and learn.
16:46It's all right.
16:56Okay? I'm really trying. I know you are.
16:59It's a high pressure environment. You're trying to get a million things done really quickly. And
17:17and she's a really committed, hard worker. And she likes to get her hands dirty and be across
17:22everything. So, you know, at home, we would be doing all of this by ourselves. But yeah, like,
17:27she's fine. She's resilient. She'll bounce back. I'm hopeful that we can get everything done.
17:33Next door in house three, West Aussie police officers Britt and Taz are waiting for the
17:40waterproofing to dry in their bathroom. Second coat's down. I've got two heaters and a giant fan
17:46from Hayley's High just sitting on it, waiting for it to get dry. Once the waterproofing is dry,
17:51we get underfloor heating installed, and then we can start tiling over the top. And while they wait,
17:56Britt and Taz have turned their attention from inside their house to the vast outside.
18:02From day dot, they've said landscaping will probably win you the block this year. And we love that
18:08because we love landscaping. And driving through Daylesford, you see all these amazing back and
18:13front yards. You see the work that people put into them. So to sell this house, yes, your interior needs
18:18to be great. Your outdoors just needs to be next level. And Britt has wasted no time when it comes
18:24to planning how house three will make their outdoors next level. I needed to lock in a landscaper
18:31ASAP. I reached out to Troy from Lovett Landscaping. How are you doing? Good, thanks to yourself.
18:37Nice to meet you. You too. House three. Yes, house three. Hopefully the best house
18:42on the block. Will be. It will be. Troy is not a stranger to the block from Lovett Landscaping.
18:48He's done it quite a few years now. Yep. Troy was with us last year. Wow. That's dramatic.
18:53And the year before that. This is fun. This is fun. And the year before that. That's a good room.
19:01And way, way before that, Troy starred in season three of the Saddle Club. What's that got to do
19:08with anything? Well, the Saddle Club was shot locally here in Dalesford. So big block. Yeah.
19:14Lots going on. So for me, it's creating like we're going to have some curves inside. So creating those
19:19curves outside. Yep. Very resort style living is what we're going to be going for. Perfect. So you've got
19:26a budget of about $500,000. Yeah, yeah, yeah. $600,000. Perfect. That one. That one. Awesome. Yeah.
19:30The size of the site is a lot larger than a residential block. You could arguably fit
19:36three previous block backyards into one of these places. So big space. Big space means a lot of
19:42things that need to be done, which means a lot of money. So therefore they don't have a lot of money
19:46already. So therefore they've got to win. Period. Win, win, win, win. You're probably wondering where Taz is.
19:51Yeah, where is Taz? Come to this beautiful area just to the west of Melbourne to dig up this gorgeous
20:05two and a half, three metre tall lemon tree. And then I found myself a fruit orchard. The owner of
20:10the place is like, I actually don't need a few of them. I said, well, where can we start? What can I
20:15take? We're sitting next to a peach tree. Pomegranate tree. I don't really eat pomegranates, but you know,
20:20it'll go well in a fruit orchard, I reckon. What an absolute dream of a thing to stumble across.
20:28Troy, I got Taz on the phone. He said he's digging out the lemon tree. He's realised there's two big
20:34peach trees behind. Can we get the peach trees as well? We can grab the two peach trees, but there's
20:40also a pomegranate tree. Do you want that one? Mate, we'll get whatever we can. Hustle is going to be our
20:46motto for this season. Hustle, hustle, hustle. It's looking like one, two, three, four, five,
20:53six fruit trees all up. Yeah, that's unreal. So I'm assuming you're not going to be able to dig all
20:58those out. So I'll get my guys over to dig them all out with machines. Probably wait maybe a few
21:04weeks because once we dig them out, we'd like to put them into place straight away. The lemon tree,
21:08if you've dug it out, is fine because that can go in a pot and that'll be, they're really tough.
21:11Beauty. But the other stuff we'll keep. Awesome. Awesome, Troy. It was about nine
21:16grams worth of fruit trees and she wanted 600 bucks for them. Bargain. Bargain. No worries,
21:21I'll get to it. I'm real mate. See you soon. Thank you so much. Cheers guys. Bye. So you're saying
21:26we a lot. Of course. It's a team, yeah. Okay, so you're in. Absolutely I'm in, for sure. Oh,
21:31thank you God. Okay. I'm not coming all this way, but I don't want to be a part of a team and I think
21:35this will be a pretty good team, so let's do it. Amazing. He was excited, I was excited and we locked it
21:42in. We secured Troy Lovett. In house five, the boys' second coat of waterproofing seems to be drying well in
21:50their bathroom. Robbie, how are you mate? Second coat done. Okay, beautiful. So what,
21:54a couple of hours should be dry? Should be. We've got the fans and the heaters pumping away. If we can
21:59get this ticked off in the next hour and a half, we should be in line. I'm pretty confident. I'll
22:03come back in about an hour. See how it's going. Yeah, sounds good. All right, mate. Thanks,
22:06bud. Thanks a lot. As the boys play the waiting game in their bathroom,
22:10their attention turns to shopping and styling. Also, Rob, today we need to factor into the timeline
22:15to go to Kiten to pick some towels for the bathroom and I'd like you to come with me,
22:22please, on this shopping adventure. Okay, if we get to go to McDonald's, I will come. Also,
22:26I'm freaking out about the floor tiles. I think the contrasts are too similar.
22:30Really? Yeah, speaking to my partner, Alyssa, and just FaceTiming her and showing her the house
22:34to the bathroom. Hi. Hi. Hello. Showing her our tile selection and she went,
22:39oh, they're very similar, the floor and the wall tiles. So Robby's partner has called into question
22:46the tile selection that Matt made earlier this week. I like this texture on this one.
22:52And then my brain went in the loop and I started panicking and so I looked at it, I stared at it,
22:56I laid it out. I looked at it and I was like, she's maybe right. And I was like, I think we need to go
23:01like a lighter floor tile just to break up the colour difference. Well, it's a bit too late now.
23:06Is it? It is, isn't it? Do you want to race to Beaumont now and give them a call and see if there's
23:12any possibility? I need to get the waterproofing approved as soon as that's approved. And then I
23:16need to tell the tiler and they're in prison. And then he can't do the floors. All right, cool.
23:25So then we're leaving it as it is? No. All right, cool. Do you want to call Beaumont then? Yep. Okay.
23:31It's bathroom week on the block and there's just three and a half days left till our teams reveal
23:42their first rooms to the judges. It's a busy block site, barred in house two. Since early this morning,
23:50Han has been hands off after being caught waterproofing unsupervised. I was like really
23:56disappointed that Dan shut me down. And then, yeah, obviously Tim came a little bit later and
24:00then got stuck into it. When Dan came back, I pulled him aside and I had a chat and I was like,
24:08um, still like looking at him made me upset. So I was just like, Hey mate, like, I was like genuinely,
24:16like, I didn't want to like lose, for you to lose trust because it's not my intention. I really don't want the
24:21trust to be very good in life. That's okay. Week one, I understand. It's a lot. It's very hard to
24:26have everything perfect and run smoothly. You can learn from it. Same as life. That's fine, mate.
24:30It's all good. Thank you. Yeah, we move on. I appreciate that. Yeah, yeah. Without Han,
24:35like, I would never be able to do this. It's okay. We're going to get that together, okay?
24:41It's going to look lovely. So, so proud of Han and I love her dearly and I think she's one of a kind
24:48and there's nothing you can't do and you continue to amaze me every day.
24:55Dan, you make me cry. Oh gosh, don't cry. Enough of that.
25:00Thank you. I love you too. I'm very proud of you. Yeah, we got this together.
25:06Nine percent. Outside. Darren, it's Robbie from the block. House 5's Robbie is calling
25:13Beaumont Tiles for reassurance that the South Honsie boys have selected the right colour tiles in their
25:19bathroom. I feel like the floor and the wall tiles are pretty similar in colour or is it going to look
25:26different when it's on the floor because it's flat, is that? You'll have a vanity over it,
25:30you'll have barbed toilets and really your eye is taking yes to the floor but more to your feature
25:36tile on your wall. Okay, so the feature tile is a little bit darker. Is that what you're
25:41thinking? That's what you're trying to say? Yeah. That's what I'm trying to say and I think it's
25:44going to look stunning. I spoke to Darren from Beaumont and he's reassured that we have
25:48made the right decision with our original choices. I think you'll be absolutely blown away once we've tried.
25:53Okay, all right. No, that's a reassurance I needed Darren. Thanks, mate. I appreciate your honesty and
25:58I'm standing right next to Matt now. Um, Darren's pretty positive about what you chose as the right
26:04decision. Beaumont Tiles are professionals and Matt went down there with a really good mood board
26:11and we need to stick to it so we need to back out his original decision. Thank you, Darren. Cheers,
26:15mate. I appreciate you. I'll speak to you soon. That's all right. Bye, mate.
26:23Do you not f***ing hate? I'm like, f***ing indecisive brainer. Well, just be it. I convinced myself I'm a f***ing meerkat.
26:32Offsite, Taz is still trying to dig up his fully matured bargain by lemon tree.
26:37I just knew if I didn't get that lemon tree, I'd be sour.
26:42I brought a lemon to a knife by...
26:48It's a bit harder than I thought it was going to be.
26:52My shovel didn't like the flex I was giving it. That's why we bring two shovels, two jumps out.
26:57It's too tough for the shovel. I had to dig out that lemon tree pretty quick because a bit of a time
27:04squeeze. Oh, jeez. Please stop.
27:14It's out. Is that going to clear? What can I do?
27:19I think I've hurt myself out of lemonade.
27:38With the second coat of waterproofing now on in all five houses, it's time for inspections.
27:44And first up is Victorians Emma and Ben in House One.
27:49Is it dry, mate? Dan.
27:50Yes, I hope so. It's up to Foreman Dan and Site Supervisor
27:55G-Mac to give the blockheads the approval to begin tiling.
27:58When G-Mac walks in, you're just standing there with bad breath.
28:03We're anxious to pass waterproof inspection.
28:05There's a few bubbles up the top here. Another one there, there, there.
28:10So, Benny, you see all these big blobs everywhere?
28:12Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Big blobs up here.
28:16Something like this, the trowel will come across and it'll pull the membrane.
28:20There's things like this need to be addressed. It's got to have two coats on it, mate,
28:24and it's got to adhere to it. Has it not been primed? No.
28:28So your water stop, they haven't primed it with something.
28:30See how that just scratched? Yep, yep, yep. I can't have that happen.
28:33Yep, cool. Well, not cool. I got knocked back.
28:37The waterproofer has to, you know, re-prime the water stop and then put waterproof over it.
28:43So, yeah. Yeah, because it's peeling off.
28:45We're pretty stressed because it's a pretty long process and so to finish it...
28:49I know, and then to book in another inspection is going to take a long time.
28:52Yeah, it's a massive delay. Thanks, bud. Thanks, Dan.
28:54What the hell is that? It's had a hemorrhage.
28:59Wow. Negative. You're not getting past. We fail.
29:02If that doesn't improve, it's going to have to be cut out and redone. Disaster.
29:06You're driving up in your turns. With money burning holes in your threads.
29:19What happened up in your head? You always used to be cool.
29:23For what? Yeah, my favourite tool.
29:27Here we are, on the block, doing a bathroom in the first week.
29:30And off we go.
29:31Yeah, here we go. Yeah. Yeah, here we go.
29:33I've worked on tons of bathrooms in my time, but I've never been under such time constraints.
29:39You know, like, to do it in a week is... it's just relentless.
29:43Please, can you just get out? You're making me nervous. Get out.
29:47It's okay. No, get out.
29:49Yeah, I'm a plumber, mate. I'm confident we'll pass.
29:52If you look at it, it's neat as. He's done the job. We're taking photos on the gauge of everything.
29:56I've got all them in my phone. Everything's sealed up. Everything's good.
30:01I'm pretty certain I'll be fine.
30:01Eventually, we got Dan down there, and also GMAT comes around.
30:07Right? It's a little bit spongy here. Why isn't that waterproofed?
30:11Which? The angle. The angle? Yeah.
30:14Up and over the top. It's in the drawing.
30:17No, it's not waterproof in the back. Negative. You're not getting past. We fail.
30:22When you sit there as a tradesman, you know, because you watch it at home, you're like,
30:26they must be getting away with something. But when you hear, I'm not getting away with anything.
30:31You don't get away with anything. Everything, like...
30:34They're right onto it, so. And you get that, that's good. But sometimes you're like...
30:38Well, you sit and you think, yeah. Just wish you were blind, GMAT.
30:41Is he still here, your waterproofer? Nah, I'm just coming.
30:45Painting that angle. Can I do that, or do I have to wait for him to come do that?
30:50He's signing off on it. Yeah.
30:57Hey, boys.
30:59Mate. Do you reckon I can steal one of your waterproofers for 10 minutes?
31:02Do you want to buy one of it up? I can steal one of yours. Yeah, yeah.
31:04Is that all right? He said he's happy to provide a certificate if your boys can paint it.
31:08Yeah. Yeah.
31:09Yeah.
31:09Sweet. Yeah, thanks. Cheers, boys.
31:12It was really just a touch-up, but that way, when my Tyler gets here, he doesn't have to do it.
31:17We don't have to wait for it to dry, so in that way, it just keeps us moving forward.
31:22It's all happy families in week one.
31:23It is for now.
31:25Yeah, but see, it's all happy families until someone gets a f***.
31:29Who gets a f*** first, we'll see.
31:32Lemon tree, very pretty, and the lemon flower is sweet, but the fruit of the boy lemon is...
31:42Lucy the lemon tree.
31:43Named it already.
31:44She is nice.
31:47Hello.
31:48Lucy a lemon tree.
31:50Oh, she's beautiful.
31:51Two and a half metres tall.
31:52I like it.
31:58Pretty nice, eh?
31:59Good job, Taz.
32:02The lemon tree that you've bought is a secret.
32:04Hush, hush.
32:05Thought I'd hide her in plain sight.
32:07So if you look over my right shoulder, you'll see a
32:11two and a half to three metre tall lemon tree.
32:15No one else knows about this at the moment.
32:17Alicia is using it for shade right now.
32:19Is she really?
32:21I'm all about helping out other teams, you know what I mean?
32:24In any way I can, just helping them out, so...
32:27Yeah, so I don't think she's got no idea.
32:30Yep, Taz is a master of keeping things on the down low.
32:34Oh, wow.
32:34See the garage door to the right?
32:35Yeah, yeah.
32:36Nice.
32:37Three metres up.
32:38Very nice, mate.
32:40No one will even know what it is.
32:41So the secret got out pretty quickly.
32:42Yeah.
32:43Is this your tree?
32:44What tree?
32:45This one.
32:45Is that a marketplace one?
32:47Might have been a marketplace one, yeah.
32:49You're not telling me, are you?
32:50No, I will.
32:50Marketplace.
32:51Oh, really?
32:52It's done me well.
32:53Looks nice.
32:53And now everyone's talking about a lemon tree.
32:55Talking about our Lucy.
32:57But they don't know about the seven others that we're going to buy as well.
33:00That one's secret.
33:01Shh.
33:11It's the driest I've ever dried a bathroom before, mate.
33:17Really?
33:18Which is my first.
33:19Sorry.
33:19Okay, I will bid the judge.
33:20Yep.
33:21G Flip, Mac G, G Daddy.
33:25He terrifies me.
33:26I'm so scared of him.
33:29When G Flip comes, I go, like the Wicked Witch of the West.
33:46Gee, it is dry.
33:49Wow.
33:50Robbie.
33:51He's done a good job, mate.
33:52He's done a very good job.
33:54Good.
33:55All right.
33:56He's looking happy.
33:59Complete.
34:01Oh, yes.
34:03Thank you, G.
34:04In one inspection.
34:06Great success.
34:08So Thursday, we were the first team on the block in 2025 to waterproof,
34:12and we were the first team to tile.
34:14Dark horse, baby.
34:16Nay, nay.
34:17Nay, nay.
34:18The O'Brien guys are putting the heating in the floor as we speak,
34:22and Tyler's going to be in the shower.
34:24We've actually got a bit of time to kill,
34:26so Matt and I are going to take advantage of that, hit the road.
34:29We're going to go into Dalesford and check out the local shops
34:32and see if we can find anything nice to decorate.
34:34I'll head back to a small town, homebound, back to what I know.
34:39Here we are, going for a nice country drive.
34:44Do you know in Adelaide you can marry your dad?
34:48Well, have you inquired?
34:50I know Steve's a good man, but like...
34:52I'm kidding.
34:52Back to a big sky, little lo-fi, that's where I'll go.
34:57Back to a small town, small town, small town, yeah.
35:02Such a cute little town, isn't it?
35:04Mm-hmm.
35:04We went down the main street of Dalesford,
35:06and we popped into a couple of local shops there.
35:10Oh, D-town.
35:11Oh, mate, I'm the number one fan of D-town.
35:14I'm the mayor. D-town.
35:20They claim to have the best vanilla slice in Victoria.
35:24I'm going to cut this in half because I've seen the way you eat.
35:26Oh, my God.
35:32Nothing vanilla around here.
35:34We were driving around to get a few little knick-knacks for styling,
35:37just some ideas.
35:39And, you know, I've got that superpower of being gay,
35:41so I know how to style things.
35:43Oh, this is nice.
35:44Oh, these look great.
35:46Can you buy these soap dishes here as well?
35:49Rob, look at this.
35:50I'm looking at him.
35:51I've realised very quickly I'm never taking him with me
35:55on a shopping thing ever again.
35:57It's painful because we look at stuff and he's like,
36:00oh, yeah, nah.
36:00Oh, yeah, nah.
36:01It's painful.
36:02Anyway...
36:03It's fun, though.
36:04It wasn't fun.
36:05I think those soap dishes, those colours were great.
36:08Didn't like the colour.
36:09What colours were there?
36:11The...
36:11You picked up a grey one.
36:14There weren't grey, were there?
36:15No.
36:16To be honest, I'm not going to lie.
36:17Yes.
36:17I wasn't paying attention.
36:19Are you kidding?
36:19Why?
36:20I was just looking at things.
36:22Well, then don't go shopping with me.
36:24This is why I do the shopping
36:25and then just deal with the complaining when I get home.
36:35Welcome back to the vlog.
36:37That's so good.
36:39Now, Rob and Matt, at the beginning of the week,
36:44he didn't have a building.
36:45You're trailing behind the pack right now.
36:50You have overtaken the leaders with no experience whatsoever.
36:56And have a look at you.
36:59Doing not too bad.
37:00Look, have you managed your Combank budget?
37:03That doesn't even sound like me.
37:06Meanwhile, back at the block.
37:09That's my line.
37:11Meanwhile, back at the block.
37:13Hello.
37:13Hello.
37:14Hello.
37:14Good to see you.
37:15How are you doing?
37:16What's happening?
37:16Yeah, we're ready for waterproof inspection, please.
37:19Really?
37:19Yep.
37:19Yeah.
37:20You're going to try?
37:21I reckon you're going to like it.
37:22We had a few hiccups this morning.
37:24One of them was my bad.
37:26My ears are glued on, I think, sometimes.
37:28Okay, well, that's dry there.
37:31But it's more the internal corners that we've got to really check.
37:35It was quite stressful.
37:36I'm just really keen to get in and just get things done.
37:41We are very shocked that this has tried.
37:45That's what happens when you apply it with love.
37:50Just press the green one at the bottom.
37:55There you go.
37:56Thanks, mate.
37:57Got waterproofing approved.
37:58I'm stoked, so we're good to go.
38:00After the hell of a day that it was, we're back on track.
38:06Tim's laying out the tiles, start cutting.
38:08And we've got floor-to-ceiling tiles.
38:10So it's a big mission to get this complete.
38:12But yeah, feeling good.
38:14Yeah, feeling good.
38:15Things are in motion.
38:17So, Jeep, who have we passed?
38:18House five and house two?
38:20Yep, in that order.
38:21And that's it?
38:23With the new building rules this year,
38:24and only two hours left before the site closes for the night,
38:28everyone wants to get their waterproof inspected and passed now.
38:32So, did you come for an inspection?
38:34Yes, please.
38:34I think you want an inspection.
38:35Yes, please.
38:36So they're all coming again.
38:37Thanks, Dan.
38:37Here we go.
38:38Are you doing an inspection?
38:40Yeah.
38:40Can we go to ours after, Dan?
38:42Okay.
38:43GMAT, they're all coming.
38:48That corner, it's just a little bit ugly.
38:50It's dry.
38:50Yeah, it's a little bit dry.
38:51A little bit wet.
38:53It's just not quite dry in a couple of spots.
38:55So, they said our tilers can start tiling,
38:58but they are not to tile over those areas until it's dry.
39:01I don't want you to go anywhere near here.
39:02Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
39:04Nah, that's right.
39:04If that doesn't improve, it's going to have to be cut out and redone.
39:08Disaster.
39:09Disaster?
39:10That will be a disaster.
39:11We're ripping off waterproofing.
39:12I know that's...
39:13That's not good.
39:14I know that much.
39:15No, you don't want that.
39:16So, we've been given permission to tile,
39:18but we've not been fully ticked off for waterproofing,
39:21and it's just frustrating.
39:23Waterproofing Wednesday sucks.
39:24No, this is Thursday.
39:26Sucks.
39:26Or on Thursday.
39:28Waterproofing sucks.
39:31Are we good or not?
39:32Yeah.
39:33Is it dry?
39:33Yeah, it's dry.
39:34Yeah, you've done that.
39:35Yeah.
39:36And you've gone into there.
39:37Yeah.
39:38Yeah.
39:38That's a worry.
39:40The rest was all right though, wasn't it?
39:41The rest was good.
39:42I got provisional pass of waterproof,
39:44so I could lay to my first shower stock,
39:46because there was no problem back from there.
39:49So we're not penalising you for the whole bathroom over one little second, right?
39:53Yeah, yeah, yeah.
39:54Because the rest is fine, and it meets all our requirements.
39:56We're happy with the product we're going to put out.
39:59We just got to get it over the finish line, you know?
40:01We're not there yet.
40:02There's still a lot of moving parts between now and Sunday.
40:06All right, so GWF's 99% approved house four.
40:09Yeah.
40:10House five's fully approved.
40:11Yes.
40:11House three, partially approved.
40:13Same number.
40:14House two, fully approved.
40:15Yes.
40:16House one, we haven't done it yet.
40:18Fine, we'd better get a one.
40:18All right, let's go.
40:21We are a lot behind everyone else, and when GMAC walks in,
40:24you're just standing there with bad breath.
40:27Yeah, they've flattened that out.
40:28Yep.
40:29That gets cut.
40:30Yeah, good.
40:31That one's not so much.
40:32It's a dry.
40:34We're anxious to pass waterproof inspection.
40:36What the hell is that?
40:38It's had a hemorrhage.
40:39Wow.
40:40It's not finished.
40:42Looks like I'm doing another partial pass.
40:44Yep.
40:45Okay, which means you'll be allowed to tile past this point,
40:47which means that by the end of closing business before I leave at six o'clock tonight,
40:51it needs to be dry.
40:52GMAC doesn't give you too much.
40:54No.
40:54And I thought we were going to get like a glitter bomb or something.
40:57I was wet.
41:00Can you imagine that?
41:01GMAC just like flashes a glitter bomb and he's like...
41:04Did you just do that one?
41:08That's good and bad news.
41:09Yeah.
41:10But you're not the only one in the boat.
41:11Okay.
41:12There's other ones like that.
41:13Yeah.
41:14Okay.
41:14So at least you can start the shower, floor, walls.
41:16With all our blockheads finally moving forward,
41:18with underfloor heating and tiling in their bathrooms,
41:21let's check back in with these two clowns who are focusing on styling.
41:26Right.
41:27What's a barber and a hairdresser doing finishing their waterproofing before everyone else?
41:32Let me just say, you have made it a cut above the rest.
41:39Are you really proud of yourself?
41:40I underestimated you.
41:42And if you step over to my office, I'll cook you a snack and give you $10,000.
41:49I think you might have the best voice on TV.
41:53If you fly on the map, you've got 2.9 kilometres.
41:56Then you'll find yourself at Linen House.
41:58Window's up, Rob, because you don't want people to be still in the car in Kite.
42:03Let's go, shall we?
42:07So we've just rocked up to Linen House in Kite.
42:11Towels.
42:12Towels.
42:13Matt's going to go do his thing, and I'm just kind of browsing the shop and touching things,
42:17you know?
42:18Potentially looking for a few little knickknacks to go around,
42:22but definitely some towels and maybe a robe or something like that.
42:26Is there anything in, like, more this sort of...
42:29I can't take him anywhere. It's like you're going in a china shop.
42:34We had the best time at Linen House. Jess was an absolute legend.
42:37I like this.
42:38What are you going to do with that in bathroom week?
42:40Just drawing things on.
42:42I'm thinking we get some sage green. I like the darker green as well.
42:46If you can hold these.
42:47Sure.
42:50Maybe some of these.
42:51Don't worry.
42:52And actually...
42:56Oh, that is nice.
42:57Thank you so much, Jess.
42:59No worries. That's okay.
42:59You're amazing.
43:00Matt is just going a little bit crazy.
43:03It's not crazy. It's standard.
43:04Styling could make or break the room, and so because our room is a very neutral palette,
43:10we're using things like plants and linens and local produce to really bring our space to life.
43:17Meanwhile, back at the block.
43:20Quarter to five on Thursday, bathroom week, and everyone has started tiling.
43:25I clearly have to say house two and house five are in the best positions.
43:28They should finish tiling by tomorrow. In saying that, house two only has one tiler,
43:33and the girls want floor to ceiling tiles everywhere. That's a lot to ask for one tiler.
43:38Whereas house five, they've got a couple of tilers in there, and they're not tiling everything.
43:42So probably house five are going to be more likely to finish before anyone else.
43:46The boys are now back at house five to see the good progress the Tylers have made in their bathroom.
43:52Our tiler, his name is Tyler. T-Y-L-U-H.
43:55T-Y-L-U-H. He's not, his name's Dean. Hey, hey. Hey, hey. Wow, that looked great, man.
44:03It does look cool, doesn't it? Good maths. Yeah, we definitely made the right decision on the floor.
44:07Yeah. Looks great, guys. Keep it up. We heard some whispers down the street that, um...
44:11It's a block scandal, but keep going. It's a bit of a throw in the dark, but someone was waterproofing
44:16who's not a waterproofer. There's been somebody cutting corners. It's a big no-no.
44:22I know. So what are you hoping to achieve tomorrow? Oh, look, look what the cat dragged him.
44:27Hey. How are ya? Good. Are you all right? We're great.
44:31Isn't that nice? Even after having a tough day herself, Han is still checking up on her fellow blockheads.
44:38And welcome to house five. This is the first time you've been here. I know. I haven't left house two.
44:43I was like, last night, I was like, oh, that insulation looks kind of comfy. I'm like...
44:47You idiot liar. Thank you. I really appreciate that. That's lovely.
44:51So... Thanks, mate. He's okay, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
44:54Absolutely. Thank you. All right. I'll see you in a bit.
44:57Just, um, a little observation.
45:01Blue. Do you see her hand? They were all blue.
45:04Sorry, who just came and what did you notice? Han. Han just came.
45:08Butt? But nothing.
45:10I saw something on her hands, but I'm just gonna let whatever it was on her hands, even if it was, um,
45:15you know, waterproofing solution. I'll just let it go. I won't even look at it or notice it.
45:19Children, like, but her hands would be watertight. Watertight.
45:24You know, even if she washed her hands, it'd be like water off a bathroom floor.
45:28As the last work hours on site draw near, all teams have begun tiling in at least some part
45:43of their bathrooms. It looks sick. It looks so good.
45:46Even Victorians Emma and Ben in house one have managed to catch up and are making good progress.
45:53We've got the underfloor heating going down and quick mapping out the tiles and Mitch is cutting
46:00them off. I think it's gonna look great. While the teams and their trades are putting pedal to
46:05the metal on site, offsite my old mate Shelly is also leaving the dust in her wake in an MG Cyberster.
46:13Michigan.
46:17You know the time's up to look hard. Get with it. The ultimate homeboy car.
46:24Unusual day for driving the touch.

47:30them brand new bills they're already ready to go with roofs on yes you're making
47:35this too easy I know I know well it is too easy I reckon easy yes huge homes a lot

47:52you Frankie this is exciting yes what about his car I know very I think I'm just
47:57gonna leave it like that I don't want to push any more buttons but it's fast one to
48:01100 in 3.2 so I got here in no time look at that so they get to sleep in caravans the
48:08whole time yes I know and the middle one's mine I'll be in my trailer I'll be in my
48:13trailer though oh they're gonna have the best time if they don't have the best time what
48:18else can you do and she'll have divided the site do you know about this no see the
48:21black fence it runs around yeah so this is one side and that's the other side they
48:26lock the gates when it's finished they get kicked out at night they get kicked out at a certain
48:30time and it changes each day as they get closer to something that's fantastic this
48:33is great how civilized we were actually over with the boys at the camp and in
48:38comes the beautiful Shelley craft with Scotty I was so excited I actually think I
48:49stood there ladies it's done mother again yeah yeah from what I've seen so far this
48:54is the best block ever Scotty yeah it's fantastic the titanium caravans are very
49:00flashing silent it's magnificent it's it's a touring series but it'll be a great series I
49:16reckon yeah it's good give yourself a rabbit shell here's the more Shelley craft ladies meet my
49:27friend Shelley craft nice to meet lovely to see you I wouldn't opt for the hug I really want to
49:34hug yeah did anyone get a photo of that Shelley craft to sniff my armpit that's the one for the
49:49record books and you've had the Barbies going absolutely Barbie two nights ago I'll burn all
49:55snacks just the way I like it just the way you like it yeah I'm going one better tonight I thought we
49:59might pop in with farmers arms for dinner if everyone's up for us yes I love it when you
50:04shout yeah we went across the road to farmers arms which is an absolutely gorgeous little hub and
50:13restaurant establishment in Daylesford it's a booking under Shelley Scotty just so you know
50:19today was a good one wasn't it because there's nothing you could really do but help your trades
50:23and I got shut down oh you were waterproof and were you I was so focused I didn't hear
50:28properly that I couldn't do it without him there by my side and lesson learned yeah I
50:33heard lesson learned I was like oh what is this lesson she's rocked up to dinner blue-handed she
50:38can't not tell everyone that she has been told that she was untrustworthy by Dan the foreman I started
50:46waterproofing without my Tyler on site and um Dan did tell me that but I didn't hear it correctly
50:52because I was too like there was a lot going on so he shut me down and then he said he lost trust in
50:57me and then I cried and now I'm getting emotional now because like if you turn my fans off and yeah
51:02I think it's just like he's thinking of you you know like he's getting upset because yeah I know I
51:08just want to do everything right and so it's my bad for not listening properly but we've yeah we had
51:15a good chat and like trust is a huge thing especially in this like and it's the biggest
51:19thing in week one isn't it it's finding your team yes that's right and as you know we always want you
51:25to do well and so there's always advice that we can give you and you've got to have all your planets
51:30aligned to come auction time and that is a great real estate agent a great auction ear you have to
51:35have a great design and a great house and you have to create an emotional connection for the buyer
51:38because if they don't like it they just go next door don't go for the trends and the fads and
51:44whatever it is build a house that you really want to live in and you're trying a pair of jeans more
51:50times than you'll actually look around a house you want to buy like seriously you walk into house you
51:53go yep this is the one yeah or it's not I'm moving next door and I don't know why this is the one
51:57but this is the one it feels good yeah and that's what you've got to try and achieve at this stage
52:02you know it's built like a little family I'm glad that it feels good I'm just worried I'll be sitting at the end of the
52:08tail from leash by the end of week 12. That'll be the biggest shock of the season. Alrighty what's up boys?
52:15I feel like we're in it together and it's really supportive and collaborative. It's a family. I think everyone's had a really tough couple of days so I think it's really nice to come together and have a nice surprise and treat tonight.
52:27Isn't it absolutely fantastic that we have the farmers arms in Dalesford right across the road from us
52:35and it serves magnificent food. Very fortuitous. This is the reason for the site right?
52:41We actually put the site near the pub. Yeah I like it. I think this is going to be a really nice series.
52:47At this stage we are a family but wait till week eight then see who's friends.
52:52Enjoy your dinner. Yeah.
53:01Tomorrow night. Handy hand is on the tools as well. Oh I am. She's got her pads on. Look at you go.
53:09Everything on Friday afternoon has gone great. Then Aidan walks in.
53:13Start popping tiles off at all. Take all the tiles off.
53:16Every tile on a Friday night. All the tiles themselves just sat in a bathroom, fully tiled, ready for grout.
53:26If it makes you feel any better I'm about to go do it with someone else.
53:32I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
53:35I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
