00:59The UK Government has introduced significant immigration changes effective from July 2025,
01:09offering welcome relief for EU citizens, families with children and long-term residents.
01:15These updates include streamlined routes to settled status, reduced timelines for children's settlement and revised residency criteria.
01:25The full version of this blog is available on our website, link mentioned in the description below.
01:31Let's begin with upgraded route for EU pre-settled status holders.
01:41From 16th July 2025, EU citizens with pre-settled status can automatically qualify for settled status after 30 months of UK residence, even with brief absences.
01:53Next, we explore restricted leave and refugee protection.
02:03As of 17th July 2025, individuals excluded from refugee protection due to criminal records will only receive restricted leave with no access to humanitarian protection.
02:18Moving on to private life settlement for children and young adults.
02:25From 29th July 2025, children residing in the UK for 7 plus years can apply for settlement after 5 years, rather than 10.
02:36Young adults, 18 plus, who've lived half their lives in the UK also benefit.
02:41Then, we examine continuous residency in Crown Dependencies.
02:48Time spent in Jersey, the Isle of Man and other UK Crown Dependencies now counts toward continuous residency for indefinite leave to remain, ILR.
03:02Finally, we look at the impact of citizenship deprivation on long residency.
03:12If British citizenship is revoked, previous years of lawful stay no longer count toward long residency.
03:19Applicants must restart the 10-year requirement.
03:25Before we end, let's do the conclusion.
03:30These rule changes reflect the UK's attempt to balance control with fairness in immigration policy.
03:37Families, EU nationals and long-term residents should reassess their settlement timelines and seek professional advice where needed.
03:45For the complete policy details, visit the official Home Office update linked in the description.
03:52And that brings us to the end.
