00:00Cameroonian opposition leader Maurice Campto is challenging his disqualification from October's
00:06presidential election, filing an appeal on Monday with the country's Constitutional
00:11Council. Last week, Campto, who was runner-up to incumbent Paul Beer in 2018, was barred
00:17from this year's election by Cameroon's electoral oversight body, Elicam. Elicam cited the
00:24fact that Manadem, the party Campto represents, has already submitted a candidate for the
00:292025 vote. Campto's supporters, however, are crying foul, pointing out that other parties
00:36are also running multiple candidates without pushback from Elicam. Campto is widely seen
00:43as the main challenger to 92-year-old President Beer, the world's oldest serving head of state
00:48who's ruled Cameroon since 1982.
