Rwandan opposition figure Victoire Ingabire will remain behind bars after a Kigali court denied her bail. Judges at the Kicukiro Primary Court cited fears she could flee or interfere with an ongoing investigation.

00:06denied her bail on Tuesday. Judges citing fears she could flee or interfere with an
00:11ongoing investigation. Ngabire is facing six charges including forming or belonging to
00:17an illegal group and spreading hate speech aimed at turning international opinion against
00:22the government. Prosecutors say the evidence is strong enough to keep her in pretrial detention.
00:27The case is linked to the 2021 arrests of several of her supporters. Authorities
00:33allege they took part in an online political training where a book was shared titled How
00:38to Topple a Dictator When You're Alone, Small and Unarmed. Victoire Ngabire is a long-standing
00:44critic of President Okagame. She has previously served time in prison and is one of the few
00:50opposition figures to remain politically active within Rwanda. Most others have been forced into
00:55exile. Her supporters call the charges politically motivated while rights groups have long accused
01:01of the government of cracking down on the scent.
