00:30And welcome to the Indoor League of World Championships and more quarterfinals from men's and ladies' darts.
00:35Being a gentleman, it's ladies first, with a final quarterfinal between Betty Hughes from Gwent in Wales and that lassie from Lancashire, Margaret Lally.
00:43As we join the first leg and Dave Lanning, it's Betty to throw, having won the toss.
00:48Betty Hughes, reigning national ladies' title holder in Great Britain from Newsbridge in Gwent.
00:5511!
00:55Starts with 11, which is not the form of a champion.
00:59Margaret Lally from Lee in Lancashire, her opponent.
01:0260!
01:03With this super quick style.
01:06Starts with 60.
01:07So this is the final quarterfinal.
01:10We have three semifinalists already.
01:12And we're looking now for the last one.
01:15Will it be...
01:1660!
01:16Betty Hughes from Gwent or this little lady with the urchin haircut, Margaret Lally with this machine gun firing style from Lee in Lancashire, Margaret Lally.
01:29Betty Hughes has won lots and lots of championships over the past five years.
01:35Very deliberate, thorough, flights it out quite beautifully.
01:3717, unlucky Betty.
01:39Score 17, treble five.
01:41Margaret Lally.
01:43Kate made captain of the men's team at the church inn.
01:48So you can honestly say she has them rocking in the aisles there.
01:56Betty Hughes.
01:57Married, no children, so lots of time to practice.
01:5941.
02:00About an hour daily, she reckons.
02:05Margaret, on the hockey now, has been playing for 16 years.
02:0916.
02:13Betty Hughes.
02:15Remember, it's 5.01.
02:17Straight start, double finish.
02:193.72 Betty Hughes needs.
02:21And you must subtract her totals as we go merrily on our way in this 76-77 indoor league series.
02:29Margaret Lally.
02:3060.
02:31Yeah, 60.
02:31She doesn't have to go quickly, this girl.
02:37Betty Hughes.
02:38That's downstairs.
02:40Three threes.
02:41That's nine.
02:4454.
02:4554.
02:46So Margaret Lally needs 2.48 less these.
02:49There's one of them.
02:50There's 21.
02:5181.
02:5281.
02:53Good scoring.
02:54Steady old scoring from Margaret Lally.
02:5681, 60, 60.
02:58Her last nine darts.
03:02Hughes.
03:0517.
03:0717 score.
03:07167.
03:09167.
03:09There is a shot here.
03:10It's 60.
03:11She can't do it now, but she can still get a lot.
03:1460.
03:14Hard points.
03:14The score, of course, was 60-57 bull.
03:17And now we come on to Betty Hughes.
03:22Who needs 223.
03:23Less 60.
03:25One.
03:2681.
03:2781.
03:28So 107 going.
03:29That's 107.
03:30Margaret Lally in.
03:31107.
03:3357 bull.
03:34What has she got?
03:35She goes so quickly, this girl.
03:3699 scores.
03:3799.
03:38That was a bit unexpected.
03:39Betty require 142.
03:41An odd situation there, when I think she really got more than she expected.
03:44142.
03:4563.
03:4614's double top is the shot.
03:48That's a 60.
03:49She has got 80.
03:51These are 62.
03:53100.
03:53That's a 10.
03:55Margaret requires 8.
03:572-4's end for...
03:58Game and cut!
04:02It's easy when you're a top star.
04:04But you just try doing it in your pub or club this very day.
04:07Margaret Lally, a super winner.
04:09Very impressive.
04:10Off the first leg of this last quarterfinal.
04:13Tremendous finishing by Lally.
04:15Gives her the first leg.
04:16And she has the arrows in the second.
04:19One of the whiffet build.
04:22Bangs those darts in life.
04:23Nobody's...
04:2360.
04:2460 score.
04:27There we go.
04:2820.
04:2920.
04:29Here we go.
04:30This is...
04:30Here we go.
04:31...wh IRB.
04:31...whose from...
04:33...whirls.
04:34Hasn't really got a grip for this.
04:36100.
04:37Return there.
04:38She's not giving in without a rare old battle.
04:40Margaret Lally recently did an 8 dart.
04:423-0-1, of course.
04:43Just two above the minimum.
04:45She gets another 60 there.
04:4780.
04:47She gets 80, though.
04:48She has one on the deck.
04:49Terrific scoring.
04:51Margaret Lally's last nine darts.
04:53In fact, there are only nine darts for the second leg.
04:5585 60 80 betty hughes has scored 43 100 and these 45 45 so now mark lally needs 276
05:0881 it's good scoring this the score is just flicking up there on the electronic scoreboard
05:13195 margaret lally now 313 betty hughes on the hockey betty hughes really trying to
05:2141 so a whirlwind here she just can't get her nose in front 195 margaret lally wallop wallop
05:29wallop 100 gets a ton super darts
05:3595 she needs well that's all the 19s 57 treble double 19 81 81 and don't know who's hasn't played badly
05:46but she's a long way back over a ton 95 gets 15 that needs 80. is that a 60 yes it is
05:57she does want two tens
06:0081 scores yes she couldn't quite seem to count couldn't quite seem to work it out there and
06:06that fatal hesitation may have cost to that leg looks very confident though as betty hughes needs 191
06:1230. so now margaret lally needs 14 14 two sevens rotten old double
06:23that's close that's too many that's too many that's too many 161 now betty hughes of course
06:31unfortunately yes there is one shot here 60 51 full of course not there though mr 60 81 she wanted
06:4083 looking for 51. once again margaret you require 14. margaret lally looking for two sevens
06:46for a place in the semis two darts so far she's missed it betty hughes 78 well lots of ways for this
06:5654 2 12 42 2 18s oh she has got 60 two nines
07:06two nines she wants 60 scored
07:11margaret once again 14 14 is a rotten double this
07:19great finish
07:19so margaret lally goes on to meet sandra gib in the semi-finals now it's the turn of the men and a
07:28quarter-final clash between the youngest in the competition stephan lord the 20 year old from sweden
07:33takes on 19 year old eric bristow the cockney kid it's lords to throw first stephan lord just 22
07:42doing a period in 24 swedish military service
07:46starts with 44 this is eric bristow the young england international youngest ever england international
07:52actually first time on indoor league but really making an impact 100 starts with a ton lord though
08:01played pretty good first time out he beat ken brown well established london player and england
08:05international so um looked very good retires with a tonne eric bristow beat the redoubtable
08:11alan glazier in his preliminary round so he's got his tail very much up
08:16unusual distinctive style of clown that when he holds his darts of course so very individual 81 81 good
08:24scoring straight into the big score groove these two youngsters lord that's 80 100
08:31it's a tonne england versus sweden at darts and at full gallop too bristow leads 320 and uh lord now
08:39needs 257 bristow though has these all-important three hours to score that's the best he can do 260
08:47treble 20 80 scored 140 140 good good darts seem to be no room to squeeze another one in stephan lord
08:56no not overall by any stretch 55 55 so he slipped a bit behind bristow now needs 180 lord needs 202
09:09that's 20
09:1240 180 he needs remember 60 subtracting the total that now needs 120 stephan lord needs 202 bit of pressure
09:19on him needs a big score on him needs a big score this time ready to keep in touch comes back well
09:25120 well of course that's shanghai on the 20s treble single double that is the classic way to get 120 bristow
09:33is capable of doing just that that is the treble that is the single have we got the double
09:39121 121 then for stephan lord well he can't do it now he's he wanted 51 ball
09:53and he did it there and came absolutely from nowhere
10:00finishing skill that middle eyes lords 20 years puts him one in front but this time bristow has the
10:06arrows as he proved in the first round against glazier he's a fighter so can eric bristow who played
10:11absolutely beautifully then come from the back after that spectacular finish that's 60 and one on
10:18the deck great darts 80 unlucky eric really such entertaining darts stephan lord tremendous first
10:25leg finish must do his confidence good not that it was very much original 100
10:30outside britain of course young stephan must be the best in europe eric bristow
10:40probably england's best prospect for the future great young player and his team still 18 19
10:4616 16. gets 60. stephan lord well he's been in indoor league of course before reached the quarter files to stage last year then went out
10:58news of the world representative of his country 26 couple of occasions 26 oh dear that's let bristow back in
11:05he only trails by 15 he only trails by 15 so i think he'll wipe that away with these dark heads already in fact
11:1375 45 45 45 scores so still very delicately poised lord
11:1960 60. room for another one too 80. 100. nice to meet well collected tonne
11:30bristow
11:33a bit of pressure on him twirls his thumb very distinctively finds a 20 beautiful that's 80. 140. 140 he needed that
11:47that's that's put him back into the lead he wants 176 now really is a tremendous battle for these two nippers
11:53that looks like 62. so difficult to tell 176 for eric bristow so he'll be looking
12:02for a good big fat tonne and it looks like he's gonna get it he's got 60. he's got 80. 100. got a ton
12:12he needs him 76 and stefan lord wants 213 so though he's played pretty well 126 162. 100. another tonne but
12:22126 sticking out buck a sore thumb for stefan lord eric bristow needs 76 76 he'll go for 20. he now wants
12:31two eights two eights two eights two eights two eights first start just on the wire
12:37second dot wider still stefan lord wants 113 so
12:4557 16 20 60 13 double top let's see which way he goes he's gone up and got 15
12:5238 38 left he wants and he very nearly got it 19s he wanted terrific finish
13:03once again nearly a fabulous finish from stefan lord eric bristow wants two eights to stay alive
13:09moves across that one right on the wire not a lot of room left now moves right across almost
13:16into our cameras one apiece and the scene's set for a thrilling third leg will it be the confident
13:29cockney bristow or lord the swede with the coolness of scandinavia's favorite beverage find out in just a
13:35couple of minutes i'll see
13:50yep and it's time to join the third and deciding leg of the quarter-final match between stefan lord
13:55of sweden and eric bristow of london lord won the first bristow the second and it's the swede to
14:00throw in the third it's very important to start well because then the other guys always training and
14:04always got you in his sights yes it's the psychological thing you mentioned before it's
14:10easy to see why both these players represent the country they're fine players well 26 that's not
14:15good enough for stefan lord and now bristow has a chance to switch the psychological advantage his way
14:20that's two two treble 20s that looks like three
14:26well there was the big psychological booster we were talking about
14:30great eric bristow moves into a big lead 41 41 stefan lord looks a little bit disillusioned bristow
14:39three two one he now wants 180 he's got that's pretty close on the 62 but it's only a single
14:4560 60. stefan lord from sweden the top swede has played very confidently right through the tournament 100
15:00his play has improved so very much since we first saw him in england
15:03very cool youngster eric bristow the new wonder boy from london hit the same like a meteor
15:13you can easily see why too the way he plays 100 another time he's down to 161 in nine darts
15:19playing well 20 for lord he's a long way back now 60 score 60 hasn't played at all badly
15:27he's a long way back 161 there's a shot here 60 51 bull is the shot let's see that's 20 141 he now needs
15:37stays where he is will you stay there or come down looking for an odd one
15:41most effectively gets a ton 61 he wants
15:45100 100. another time for stephan law but he may well have left it late 61. let's see
15:56which way he will go for 61.
16:00he's got is that 45.
16:05looks like he wants two eights
16:07so bristow goes through the semi-finals after a brilliant third leg now for the fourth quarter
16:18finals featuring former indoor league champion leighton reese and england international cliff
16:22lazarenko a real clash of the giants reese won the toss so he starts
16:28indoor league world championship leighton reese on the hockey and straight into the big scoring groove
16:3795. his opponent another big bulky lad cliff lazarenko from hampshire in his first indoor league but
16:47very impressive winner over brian walks in the preliminary room 140. 140 he starts so he obviously
16:55isn't overawed by the presence of this mr dance leighton reese at 60. there's another one can he get three
17:04123. 123. it was in the treble one instead of the treble 20. it's still pretty spectacular though lazarenko
17:13bang 60. now we are really going to town on indoor league there's two more there's two more 140.
17:21140. he leads he leads lazarenko leads two two one two eight three playton race at 60. he's getting thrashed
17:30to death 140. great starts lazarenko and he scored 140 in his first two throws so that's
17:44280 and six starts that's another 60. it's gonna be a time i think
17:48140. another 140. line guards he now needs 81 and leighton reese wants 143. this is super sonic
17:58is that 60. is that 60? no it's 20. he wants 123. he's got 80 there. he wants an odd one
18:0797 scored 97 scored
18:11cliff requires 81. well 45 to 18 is 57 to 12. he's gone across this got a two and now it's 79.
18:19i can't see what that scores in the top is it. leighton now requires 46. 46 then after only 12 darts
18:28that's 10. to 18 is he wants there it is
18:3514 darts 14 darts it's unbelievable 14 darts that's all it took for reese to take the first leg
18:43but lazarenko was down to a finish and he starts the second so lazarenko comes back onto the hockey
18:50and he must be wondering what he has got to do to win played superbly well but leighton reese
18:56played just that bit better fabulous first leg and lazarenko straight into the grief with 85.
19:03reese what can we say about him well hasn't won the news of the world title but that is about the
19:09only one that has eluded him former title holder here 140. leighton barry tromlow leighton in this
19:19mood really is quite unbeatable isn't he he really is that was the most fantastic game breathtaking
19:24so lazarenko by no means overall gets a tonne reese
19:36look at this 140. 140. absolute artistry
19:49this is lazarenko and lazarenko hasn't played at all badly but he's still a long way back
19:54100. 100 scores a tonne but cliff lazarenko must be thinking running into this man
20:04is like running into a bus leighton reese 40 scored 60. 60 good darts by normal pub and club standard but
20:16leighton reese registers just a mild disappointment there so cliff lazarenko 216 he needs
20:21still battling what a gallant fight he's made 100. 161 going for leighton reese 60. 51 ball there's a shot
20:30here there's the 60 he'll come down looking for 51 he's got it he wants the ball what a finish this could
20:36be that would have been in 12 darts and he only just missed it 116 going there for lazarenko as he got
20:4860 now it's a single and that one's he wants two 18s he's got 80 he wants two 18s for a shot out and
20:57he's got a shot out and he just missed it well superlatives have run dry this really is unbelievable
21:06darts 44 for leighton reese i think he'll go down for eight he wants two 18s
21:13how unlucky can you get lazarenko down to a double again but reese once again wins in 14 darts
21:32no wonder they call him the prince of wales with more darts next week and two really brilliant matches
21:37from the semi-finals from the ladies dart section reigning champion gene dickinson takes on maureen
21:41flowers and expect this type of throwing throughout oh lovely shot 60. 80. a lot of time now gene dickinson
21:57if he goes on like this very steady ladies flare maureen wants 256 20. did they actually use that
22:04that's the magic trouble 100 takes a time with the first of the men's semi-finals featuring
22:11those two newcomers charlie elix and eric bristow both londoners both english internationals and both
22:17brilliant charlie elix with his back to the wall he's 2-1 down he must win this leg to stay in this
22:22tournament and seek a place in the semis 100 it's gone in the toss so far dave it's common doubts but
22:34charlie did have a chance that time well of course in this standard of play the man who wins the toss and
22:42has first arrows has honestly got a terrific psychological advantage barry haven't they because
22:48get a ton and you've got to get two time to get back in front and when these boys of course get down to
22:54a double they don't normally mess around too long do they yes it means the second throw is 140. well we
23:02can see case in point this time charlie elix who started is now on 261 and bristow although he's got
23:07a ton first time is on 401 so he's got to reply with a ton really to stay in contact looks like he's going to
23:14do it at all there it is 140 well it is really brilliant darts they're absolutely level matching
23:23blow for blow 60 for 60 that's bad luck for charlie hit the wire bank stake 120
23:33now they're pulling no punches now he wants 141 bristow again you see having scored 240 in his first
23:40six starts is still over a ton of drift 100 another tunnel this is that's just a sample of what you
23:51can expect next week so remember all city
