The head of the Unified Command of the Bolivarian Revolution, Jorge Rodríguez, described the July 27 elections as a historic event, "because they demonstrate a strengthening of Venezuelan democracy, a deepening of democracy, because only here in Venezuela do the people elect their leaders by direct vote."
