Treasury minister James Murray has said the only way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East is through a two-state solution. Speaking about the crisis in Gaza, he described the situation as “utterly horrifying” and said the UK is pushing for a ceasefire, aid access and hostage releases. He stressed the Prime Minister is in talks with international leaders to help get “on that pathway to a two-state solution.” Report by Covellm. 00:00I think what's happening in Gaza is utterly horrifying. We see these appalling images
00:04coming out, children and babies facing starvation. We desperately need the restrictions to be
00:11lifted on aid getting into Gaza. We need a ceasefire, we need hostages to be released,
00:16and that's the only way that we can then move forward and get on that pathway to a two-state
00:20solution, which is so important and is what the Prime Minister has been talking to international
00:24counterparts about in recent days. Well, the Cabinet will be meeting this week to discuss
00:28events in Gaza. We know that we're working with the Jordanian authorities to airdrop aid into Gaza.
00:34We're also evacuating children from Gaza who are medically critically unwell to get them treatment
00:39here in the UK. We're going to make sure that we're doing everything we can to get that ceasefire in
00:44place, get the hostages out, get aid in, and then build that pathway towards peace. And the only way
00:49we get peace in the long run is having a two-state solution. We're getting on with this as quickly as
00:54we possibly can and we want to make sure that some of the children in Gaza who are critically
00:59unwell and need medical treatment can be evacuated and treated here in the UK. Now,
01:04obviously what we really need is a ceasefire to be in place for it to come to an end, hostages
01:09released, aid to go in. That's what we need to really bring this to an end. But right now we're
01:14doing everything we can to help those children who are critically unwell and to airdrop aid by working
01:18with the Jordanian authorities.
