Mirzapur: A controversy erupted in Ramai Patti market under the City Kotwali police station area on Friday after a police inspector, allegedly in uniform, refused to pay ₹800 for a pair of repaired spectacles.
According to the shopkeeper, the officer had his lenses fitted and was presented with the bill. When asked for payment, the officer reportedly said, “We won’t pay. Do whatever you can,” in an arrogant tone. The shopkeeper requested him to speak politely, but the officer left the shop without paying.
A video of the incident quickly went viral on local WhatsApp groups and social media, sparking public outrage.
Authorities have directed the city police to verify the facts and take appropriate action in the matter.
