India has tested its first-ever hydrogen-powered train coach at ICF Chennai. From zero smoke emission to a powerful 1200 HP engine in the works, this marks a new era of green transport. Indian Railways plans 35 such trains under the 'Hydrogen for Heritage' mission. Want to know what makes these trains special and how much they cost? Watch for full details.

00:00India has taken a big leap towards clean and green railways.
00:04For the first time ever, a hydrogen powered train coach was successfully tested in Chennai
00:10at the integral coach factory.
00:13Railway minister Ashwini Vashnov shared a video of the test run and called it a major
00:19milestone.
00:20And honestly, this is not just a test, it's the beginning of a whole new chapter in Indian
00:26railways.
00:28A hydrogen train, there are only four countries in the world which have been able to develop
00:35a hydrogen train.
00:37And most of the countries have developed trains with the capacity of about 500-600 horsepower.
00:45We in India decided to take that as a challenge and we have developed successfully using our
00:55own engineers, using our own talent, a hydrogen train which is 1,200 horsepower.
01:06At this point of time, the highest capacity hydrogen train, the power train which has been developed
01:14for 1,200 horsepower.
01:18That power train can tomorrow be used in large trucks.
01:22That can be used in large construction equipment.
01:26That same power train can be used in boats, tugboats, pilot boats.
01:34So the spin-off effects of developing a technology indigenously that is huge.
01:42The coach that was tested is called a driving power car and it runs fully on hydrogen fuel.
01:58It's a clean, zero emission option that could replace diesel trains on many routes in the future.
02:05Minister Ashwini Vaishnav also confirmed that India is building a full 1,200 horsepower hydrogen train.
02:13Once ready, this train will place India among the world leaders in hydrogen train technology.
02:21This is a component of a larger national plan, not just one train coach.
02:26Indian Railways intends to operate 35 hydrogen-powered trains as part of the Hydrogen for Heritage campaign.
02:35These will mainly be used on heritage and hilly routes like those in tourist destinations or hilly regions.
02:42It's a sustainable way to reduce emissions and preserve the natural beauty of those areas.
02:50Each hydrogen train will cost about Rs. 80 crores and the support setup per route will cost Rs. 70 crores.
03:00A pilot project is already underway which involves converting a diesel train into a hydrogen powered
03:07and running it on the Jind Sonipath faction in North India.
03:11Currently, operating costs are high but they will decrease as technology advances.
03:26This action is important for India's green future, not simply for technology.
03:31The only waste of hydrogen trains is water, there is no carbon or smoke.
03:37India is demonstrating its commitment to clean energy and pollution reduction by investing in
03:43this.
03:45Furthermore, it is establishing a model for other nations to emulate.
03:51Indian Railways is undergoing a transformation from steam to diesel, now to hydrogen.
04:02Furthermore, this hydrogen coach is evidence that the future is already here.
