On Thursday's edition of Felger & Mazz, the guys were joined by Alex Barth of 985thesportshub.com. While discussing where Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has spent some of his time during the team's minicamp practice, Barth explains how Vrabel has stood closely to second year quarterback Drake Maye.

00:00what's up alex hey guys i'm just warning you we're dealing with that post-practice wind again so
00:04if you hear that that's what that is we'll make it stop alex yeah i'll try i'll throw my hands up
00:10put a piece of paper in front of the microphone and use it as a windscreen please right or exactly
00:14turn opposite the wind and block it with your back yeah or your ample noggin okay uh let's start
00:21with who looked good today uh drake made really efficient day for him uh ball really didn't hit
00:27the ground 14 of 15 started 10 of 10 and it was a lot of shorter stuff but there was a focus as
00:32andrew callahan reported this was a first down day they were working on their first down package and
00:37in josh mcdaniel's offense we know it's so important to stay on schedule and stay ahead of the chains
00:42and i think one thing i'm looking for for drake may in year two we know he has this big arm and he can
00:47extend place and create downfield can he be decisive without being rushed and erratic right can he get
00:54rid of the ball quickly when he needs to get rid of the ball quickly and still make the right decision
00:58and that's what he did today uh again hitting short stuff over the middle did hit some checkdowns
01:03just keeping the offense on schedule which to me is something you're watching for big time this year
01:08that relates to cutting down on the turnovers it's not all of it but if he can do that it's
01:13going to help him cut down on the turnovers speaking of short stuff alex how did the offensive
01:17line look and how did will campbell look in particular so it was kind of the same as yesterday
01:23the defensive line won the day but to me it looks the same as it looks in most non-padded practices
01:28the defense is going to be ahead of the offense if we're going to take anything performance away
01:32from the offensive line today jared wilson who continued to work in at center he had a botched
01:37snap with drake may under center that's pretty much as far as i'll go in terms of the performance
01:41stuff on the offensive line until the pads come on alex i uh can't say so many gushing tweets today
01:46about rookie wide receiver kyle williams so what happened was it a step back for the uh the steal of the
01:51draft yeah quieter day for him he actually did have a drop uh on a on a short hitch route that
01:56was kind of the one time i noticed him more involved stefan diggs pop douglas you didn't
02:01see him flashing as much today as he did yesterday i had stepped back would be would be fair okay who
02:06else did not look good i asked you by saying who looked good you said drake may who did not and if
02:10it's kyle williams is going to be your answer give me someone else oh kyle williams had the drop i i you
02:15guys might say this is a cop-out but i think it's true it's jalen polk the fact that he's not on the
02:19field at this point and in mike reed's report i think was minor muscle tightness or minor muscle
02:24soreness something like that he's truly on the bubble like i i don't think just because he was
02:28a second round pick last year there's a spot waiting for him on this team it's a very crowded
02:32wide receiver room and there are other guys out here making plays kendrick born has had two solid
02:36days kashaun booty's been getting open these are the guys he's competing with and he's not on the field
02:41to to kind of make his case so for a guy that that i think needs some urgency to make the roster
02:47it is early but i think he needs all the reps he can get it is potentially costly that he's not on
02:52the field right now especially knowing that you know the off-season shoulder surgery he passed his
02:56physical and he was cleared on that it's another issue that's holding him out okay he's done it's
03:01a bust could see it halfway through last year not gonna happen i thought he was gonna get a shot but
03:07but i am interested also in booty since you brought him up uh alex like correct me if i'm wrong i thought i
03:13read yesterday that didn't begin with him and digs weren't he the first two first two guys at you
03:19know as quote unquote wide receiver one wide receiver two yesterday so they're putting a lot
03:24of stock in booty it feels like yeah he's been involved they're kind of rotating with that top
03:28group digs pop booty born williams like those guys are all kind of mixing and matching but he's
03:35right like those feel like the top of the depth chart those five guys so he's right there in the mix
03:41for that absolutely okay what's the offensive line mix right now so the spots that are kind of
03:46settled are will campbell uh at left tackle mike on whenu at right guard mostly morgan rose at right
03:52tackle i know you talked about this yesterday he rotated out a little bit with demontre jacobs
03:56where they're really it feels like there's a building competition is at left guard and center so
04:00yesterday it was jared wilson working in at center with garrett bradbury cole strange kind of was settled
04:07at left guard where we thought there'd be the competition today wilson worked at both spots and
04:11sometimes it was strange coming off the field and sometimes it was bradbury so i wonder if they view
04:16wilson really as one of their top five linemen in the competition isn't as much him winning a spot as
04:22it is okay we know we want to start this kid who's the other guy that we're going to keep in or who's
04:28the guy we can afford to take out is it cole strange at left guard or is it garrett bradbury at center
04:32alex barth join us from 985 thesportshub.com down at gillette uh tell me how vrabel has been on the
04:38field with the offense i'm specifically interested in and i asked um bedard this yesterday i'm gonna
04:45ask everybody i guess because it it does interest me i think it's important how close to drake may
04:51is mike vrabel on a minute-by-minute basis during these practices and is he involved with the offense
04:55vrabel i'm talking about so what i've noticed they do the way they kind of structure the practice when
05:00they go into 11 on 11 there's a walkthrough period it's the offense against not air but other
05:04offensive players just kind of giving a landmark then they do sort of a walkthrough pace against
05:09the defense and then it's full speed when and the defense does the same thing on the other side
05:13when they're in that early walkthrough vrabel's with the offense not with the defense and he kind
05:17of stays over there and he's essentially in that middle linebacker spot so he's seeing the whole thing
05:22and he's eye to eye with drake may watching drake may read what would be the defense then he's kind of
05:27back behind the offense for those other two periods you see him and pop in you know drake
05:31may spending a lot of time with josh mcdaniels vrabel's been there for a little bit of it but
05:35i do think it's interesting that in that walkthrough period which is really when they're installing it
05:39right how do you want it run not how are you running it how do you want it run vrabel's watching drake
05:45may set everything up and run it when they're installing it why are you guys laughing in here the wind
05:51yeah the wind go ahead just no he looks like he's ready he and toto are ready to fly out of kansas
05:56here any minute now he's off the ground through rain through sleet through snow barth has his
06:03patriots takes ready to go before you get blown away uh barthy what are we missing what should
06:07we be talking about that we haven't asked you about uh i'd say the special team stuff i think
06:11you're gonna kick me off the air if i say that i might travion henderson was a lot more involved
06:16today and even without the run stuff like they're building him up this was something i was wondering
06:21remember they used to redshirt every rookie running back they'd get yeah and so i wondered
06:25with mcdaniel's being back if that was the case for henderson again it's just two days but
06:29i think his role is going to be pretty significant i think like he looks involved through two days
06:34and they need it because they need speed and explosiveness on that offense outside of pop
06:38douglas it's not a fast group you add travion henderson to the mix he's a big boost in that regard so
06:44i like how much i've seen of him early okay alex thanks so much for taking the time we appreciate it kid
06:51good
