05:43close place
05:55close place
06:02the
06:05We need to do a search warrant in that apartment.
06:10They may have threw the gun back in there before they left.
06:12Yeah.
06:13We need to secure the upstairs apartment
06:15because our shooter came from there.
06:17So if a white girl and a black girl show up
06:19while they're securing it, grab them.
06:21When the management opens up, I should be able to find them
06:23with the descriptions I got.
06:25OK.
06:35While Detective Calhoun works on the search warrant...
06:41Is this the manager?
06:42Yeah.
06:43...the manager of the complex arrives.
06:46Why don't you lift up my car?
06:47OK.
06:48OK.
06:54The upstairs apartment has a lot to do with this.
06:57Who lives there?
06:59That's...
07:00She gives him the name of the woman
07:02who rents the upstairs apartment.
07:04OK.
07:05So...
07:06Her phone number?
07:07918.
07:08And her phone number.
07:10OK.
07:11And then who lived there with her?
07:14It was supposed to be her and her daughter.
07:18Let me, uh...
07:21Ryden calls the woman who rents the upstairs apartment.
07:25Hello?
07:27This is Detective Ryden with Tulsa Police Department.
07:30The reason I'm calling is a murder happened last night.
07:33I have a dead body basically in front of your apartment down below.
07:38Your body?
07:40I really don't know what's going on down there.
07:43I've been in Kansas City for about a week now.
07:46And I stay gone weeks at a time.
07:48I saw that your daughter lives out there, is that correct?
07:53Yeah.
07:54Because here's what I'm guessing.
07:56There's a very high likelihood that your daughter's a witness
07:58because it's your apartment.
08:00So, I was hoping maybe I can ask her, what happened?
08:06That would be great.
08:10Mm-hmm.
08:11She gives Ryden her daughter's phone number and name.
08:14OK.
08:15Is she a lesbian?
08:16Yeah.
08:17Does she have a white girlfriend?
08:19Yeah.
08:20She gives them the name of her daughter's girlfriend.
08:24I'm gonna break it down to you so you're on board.
08:28I believe your daughter and her are people I need to talk to.
08:32So, I'm gonna try to call her, but there's a good chance she's not gonna talk to me without
08:37Mom saying, hey, you need to call that detective right away.
08:40Because if I have to find her, it makes her look in a lot worse light.
08:44OK.
08:45OK.
08:46I'm gonna be honest.
08:47I have to get a search warrant to go in your apartment because I've been told that this
08:51all started at the apartment.
08:56If you were in Tulsa, I'd just have you come in here and let me in, but since you're in
08:59Kansas City, that...
09:00Yeah.
09:01OK.
09:03Bye-bye.
09:05Give me one second here.
09:06Sure.
09:07Decks in a row.
09:08Ryden calls the daughter.
09:11Oh, don't tell me she turned off her phone.
09:13But she doesn't pick up.
09:17Hi.
09:18Hi.
09:19You kind of heard everything.
09:20Do you know two black females that live by the office?
09:23Have you seen them?
09:24No.
09:25Would maintenance know?
09:27They might know.
09:28They usually see a lot more.
09:30Right, yeah.
09:31I'm hungry.
09:32It's on mute right now.
09:34OK, you're great.
09:35Thank you, ma'am.
09:38So, we're gonna head back to the office and see how Chase is doing with that search warrant.
09:42Don't know where the suspects are at, but we'd like to get that apartment as soon as possible since they might be in there.
09:47As Dee breaks.
09:48We're going back to the crime scene.
09:50We've got a search warrant for the suspect's apartment right above where Brandon's body was found.
09:55Gonna be looking for evidence, gun, any bloody clothes, anything like that.
09:57And then we'll, hopefully, we'll have enough.
09:58We'll start the hunt for the suspect.
09:59Hey, did they give you a key?
10:00Yeah.
10:01Awesome.
10:02Go in there and make sure we're in there.
10:03Yeah.
10:04Go in there and make sure they're not there.
10:05And maybe they just know we've been out here all the time.
10:06What are the ones that we've seen on, and we've been in there?
10:07We've been there for the suspect.
10:08We've been there.
10:09We've been there for the suspect's apartment right above where Brandon's body was found.
10:10He's going to be looking for evidence, gun, any bloody clothes, anything like that.
10:12And then we'll, hopefully, we'll have enough.
10:13We'll start the hunt for the suspect.
10:14Hey, did they give you a key?
10:15Yeah.
10:16Awesome.
10:17we'll start the hunt for the suspect.
10:25Hey, did they give you a key?
10:28Yeah.
10:29Awesome.
10:32Go in there and make sure they're not there.
10:33And maybe they just know we've been out here all the time
10:35and got to be safe.
10:36Calls the police, search warrant.
10:46Calls the police, search warrant.
10:50Calls the police, search warrant.
11:06Calls the police.
11:08Calls the police.
11:21Calls the police.
11:23No one's in there, so now we're going to search for evidence.
11:25Hopefully we'll find a gun or something.
11:28Where would they have kept a gun?
11:30The team scours the apartment.
11:33Hoping beyond hope that maybe there'd be a magazine,
11:37lots of ammunition.
11:39Something.
11:40Something.
11:4430 minutes later.
11:46What are we finishing at?
11:48Nothing.
11:49No gun or nothing like that.
11:53I've got warrants to set on this apartment.
11:55Yeah.
11:56The fugitive warrants unit will keep eyes on the apartment
11:59in case the suspects return.
12:01I'm going to go find the two black lesbians
12:03that live in the complex by the office.
12:07Supposedly the suspects might be friends of theirs,
12:09so maybe the suspect went over there afterwards
12:11or they can tell me where they're at.
12:19Are they maintenance?
12:20They're maintenance.
12:21Here's the deal.
12:22I have a witness saying that there's two black females
12:25that are also lesbians that live over here somewhere
12:29that are both black.
12:31Do you know who they would be?
12:33Yeah, absolutely.
12:34I know exactly what you're talking about.
12:36I've seen over here before.
12:38He points out the women's apartment.
12:40Okay.
12:41I've got a black girl and a white girl
12:43that live in that upstairs apartment.
12:45Supposedly they stay there when the real owner is out of town.
12:48Yes.
12:49Do you think that they went there?
12:52Ryden asks him if the women that live above the crime scene
12:55could be hiding out with the women who live near the office.
12:58I think that if anybody shot somebody,
13:01they wouldn't stay on the same property where they shot somebody.
13:03You'd never know.
13:04You're correct.
13:05Trust me.
13:06We don't catch the smart ones.
13:07Thanks.
13:08Take care.
13:09Have a good day.
13:18Tulsa, please.
13:22Hi.
13:23Hello.
13:24We're homicide detectives.
13:26Is this your place?
13:27Is this a criminal?
13:29She says the women that live in the apartment are not home.
13:32What's your name?
13:34But identifies herself as the black female that lives upstairs from the crime scene.
13:39What's your name?
13:40Along with her sister.
13:42Her sister?
13:43Yeah.
13:44Is it in there?
13:46Ryden asks her if her girlfriend, the alleged shooter, is there.
13:51What is she in there?
13:54Okay.
13:55So this is a murder investigation.
13:58There's a dead guy underneath your apartment.
14:01I think you know who got killed.
14:05I don't want you and your sister to be in trouble for what other people do.
14:12But I know for a fact that you guys know what happened.
14:17And I'm not going to talk about it in the middle of the courtyard.
14:20And I need you to come down, too, because we'll work through it.
14:23Okay.
14:24Both sisters agree to talk at homicide.
14:27We'll have a chat in a more air-conditioned environment.
14:31I think your sister is going to be honest with us?
14:41Mm-hmm.
14:42Sergeant Brandon Watkins transports the sister of the woman who lives upstairs from the crime scene.
14:48I'm not going to go back to prison for somebody else's .
14:53Right.
14:54And I just got out of prison for somebody else's .
14:55There you go.
14:56You know what I'm saying?
14:57So I'm not, and I don't want my sister to go to prison either.
14:59Nope.
15:00She didn't do anything.
15:01Yeah.
15:02The situation that happened over here?
15:04Mm-hmm.
15:05It's crazy.
15:06She says she was at her sister's apartment when Brandon was killed.
15:10This is what I know.
15:11All of a sudden, somebody just comes up and starts shooting, and we went in.
15:20Somebody.
15:21Well, I mean, I didn't see who it was, but I know.
15:27You know it was?
15:29Shorty.
15:30She's my sister's friend.
15:33Shorty?
15:34Mm-hmm.
15:35That's like saying I know him by Loke.
15:37Everybody's nickname is Shorty.
15:39Oh.
15:40What does Shorty look like?
15:41Um, nurse ended, I want to say, like, five, five, maybe.
15:46So she's pretty average and has the most common nickname of all time.
15:52Yeah.
15:53They call it Shorty and they call it K.
15:57K.
15:58K.
15:59K.
16:00Okay.
16:01So I'm thinking that her real name starts with K.
16:03That would be, that would be a guess.
16:04Right.
16:05Yeah.
16:06If you're making the right call, being honest, because obviously, it's real serious.
16:11If we find a picture of K, you could ID her.
16:15Yeah.
16:16I'll see her.
16:29K.
16:30I'm going to try to find out who that is.
16:32Ryden runs the nickname K in the database.
16:36Okay.
16:37And how about Shorty?
16:38Okay.
16:39Here we go.
16:40K.
16:41Rona McNack.
16:42Okay.
16:43Here we go.
16:47K.
16:48Rona McNack.
17:00K.
17:01Rona.
17:02I think this is the girl you're looking for.
17:0532-year-old K.
17:06Rona McNack is a mother of four.
17:09She has an outstanding warrant for a traffic violation.
17:12I think we know who it is.
17:15K is a black girl.
17:18Chase talked to the 911 caller at the crime scene and I got told the suspect was a white female.
17:24It's all this time we've been looking for a white female.
17:26Yeah.
17:35This is Detective Ryden.
17:36Ryden calls the 911 caller, who Calhoun spoke to at the crime scene.
17:41I got a couple questions.
17:43I know that you talked to my partner, Detective Calhoun, this morning.
17:47And a girl was brought up that's a white female.
17:51Do you remember how you got that information that a white girl might be involved?
18:01She now admits she's not sure the shooter was a white female and that it was just a rumor she heard from other neighbors.
18:08Well, I appreciate you talking to me.
18:19If I have any follow-up questions, I might call this number, okay?
18:22Okay, yeah.
18:23Bye-bye.
18:24Have a good day.
18:27White girl is a bad lead.
18:29That was hearsay because that was a third hand.
18:32Sometimes we chase down leads that end up being dead ends, but just part of the investigation.
18:37And you don't lose any sleepover or fall on a lead that just didn't work out.
18:41So, I'm going to talk to this witness.
18:44Yeah.
18:52Hey.
18:53I appreciate your patience.
18:55Rioting starts with the witness Sergeant Watkins transported to homicide.
18:59I know that you've talked to Sergeant Watkins about this incident.
19:04I'm just going to get your story, okay?
19:06Tell me about your day.
19:08I was still kind of sleeping a little bit.
19:11My sister was up cleaning up.
19:13She says last night she was at her sister's apartment above the crime scene.
19:18My sister was talking about meeting up with Kay.
19:22And who's Kay?
19:24That's her friend.
19:25Do you know this girl's name?
19:27I don't know how to pronounce it.
19:29I just call her Kay.
19:30Okay.
19:32So, is this Kay?
19:33Mm-hmm.
19:34Yes.
19:35Okay.
19:36She was supposed to take us to the store.
19:38And give me a little background.
19:40Are her and Kay just friends or are they dating relationship people?
19:46No.
19:47We're just friends.
19:48Kay straight.
19:49Okay.
19:50And does she have a car?
19:51Well, yeah.
19:52Like a black SUV.
19:54Like a little kind of sporty.
19:57So, did she actually come and take you guys to a store?
20:00Um, no.
20:01We didn't make it that hard.
20:03Okay.
20:04So, tell me about what happens next.
20:06I heard the door shut.
20:08It's a mom's phone.
20:09I'm not thinking nothing of it.
20:11My sister always goes outside and smokes cereal and abortion.
20:15And, um, I could hear some yelling.
20:19Like, you can tell it was more than, like, two people arguing.
20:23My sister was hollering my name.
20:25For help?
20:26Mm-hmm.
20:27Okay.
20:28She's leaving as I'm coming out.
20:30I heard her voice yelling.
20:32You the wrong person, you the wrong one.
20:35You can tell the way she drives off.
20:38Like, she's mad.
20:40Is she yelling out of her car or is she before she gets in the car?
20:43Yelling out of her car because she's driving off as I'm coming out.
20:46And my sister's going upstairs and she's standing.
20:49She had, like, marks.
20:52I mean, you can tell that she just made it.
20:54In a scuffle of some sort here.
20:56Brandon was like, that bitch stole my phone.
20:59She stole my phone.
21:01She says Brandon, a friend of her sister's, believed Kay had stolen his phone.
21:06And he gets her mistaken with another girl.
21:09But it was actually a woman that looks like Kay who had taken it.
21:12And he's standing down there and he's, you know, explaining himself.
21:17Somebody comes up from, like, a little bush right there.
21:21Does this person sneak up behind him?
21:23Mm-hmm.
21:24I'm looking off the balcony.
21:26He's looking up right there.
21:28She says Brandon was standing under her sister's balcony with his back to the parking lot.
21:33Does he even know they're there?
21:35Mm-hmm.
21:37How close is the person to Brandon?
21:42A couple steps into the street.
21:46Did they say anything?
21:47Mm-hmm.
21:48The gunshots start going off.
21:51As soon as I heard the first one, I, like, fell to the ground.
21:54And my grandma's sister, we kind of fall into the apartment.
21:59When I hear the gunshots stop, I'll look up the window and he's like, help, help.
22:03I'm like, oh, my God.
22:05And all the money is it.
22:06Yeah.
22:07How many gunshots did you hear?
22:08Probably, like, 4.4.
22:10The person that you saw, it looked like it was her body frame.
22:35I had on all black and, you know.
22:39She says the shooter had a hoodie closed tightly around their face.
22:43Like a South Park, wherever you-
22:44Right.
22:45Right.
22:46Okay.
22:47Who do you think that person is now after you've had-
22:50Okay.
22:52How confident are you in that?
22:55Very.
22:56Where does she live?
22:58Not the artist, but the one next to it.
23:02She says Kay lives in an apartment complex, a block from the crime scene.
23:07Okay.
23:08So from the time that you see Kay leave until the time that Brandon gets shot, would she have
23:17had time to go home and return?
23:20Yeah.
23:21Okay.
23:22Follow me.
23:23Okay.
23:24I'm gonna switch places with you and your sister.
23:27Okay.
23:29I'm gonna first get into just some basic background of Brandon Jenkins.
23:43How long have you known Brandon?
23:45Like one, two years now.
23:47Okay.
23:48Tell me about you and Brandon's relationship.
23:54Uh-huh.
23:55Friend last.
23:56Okay.
23:57In between.
23:58She says she dated Brandon before she met her girlfriend.
24:01Did you guys like each other?
24:03Yeah.
24:06Okay.
24:07We're gonna come to a timeline from yesterday until the time we met today.
24:12Yesterday morning.
24:13We were kinda late at my home.
24:15And at some point, is someone supposed to come pick you up and give you a ride?
24:19Yes.
24:20I call her Kay.
24:21Call her Kay.
24:22So she arrives.
24:24And then she's parked right there by my house.
24:27I'm down the stairs by this top.
24:29Here come Brandon.
24:31He grabbed me and pulled me towards him and hugged me.
24:35Very tight.
24:36And he said, I love you.
24:38Okay.
24:41Ew.
24:43Sorry.
24:44Take a deep breath.
24:45So then what happens?
24:50Okay.
24:51She's sitting in her car.
24:52Mm-hmm.
24:53Waiting on me.
24:54And you start saying,
24:56Keep my phone.
24:58Keep my phone.
24:59I wish I could like really show you me talking.
25:02You can.
25:03You can stand up and ring.
25:04I have no problem with that.
25:05Okay.
25:06The next thing I heard was,
25:09.
25:11I'm like.
25:14And I see him in her tussling.
25:16He drives out of the car.
25:18I mean like he was really hitting her.
25:21Or fighting.
25:22Sitting on her.
25:23Like, it's you little man.
25:27Okay.
25:28I grabbed him.
25:30He pushes me to give back to her.
25:34Bitch, get my phone.
25:36Bitch, you know you got my phone.
25:38You know who that is?
25:40Do you think he was intoxicated last night?
25:42Oh, he very much was.
25:44So alcohol.
25:46And meth.
25:47Okay.
25:49I go upstairs.
25:50I went to this.
25:52I heard a car.
25:55She heard a car speeding out of the parking lot.
25:58Yeah.
25:59Okay.
26:01So she's left.
26:02Mm-hmm.
26:03Okay.
26:04So then what's the next thing that happens?
26:06I heard sorry.
26:07I swear to God.
26:09Boo!
26:10And then my sister took.
26:12I ran my jackass now.
26:17All I heard was somebody screaming.
26:21Was it ran?
26:23Yeah, it did.
26:24But I also heard.
26:29Heard.
26:30Heard.
26:31Yeah.
26:32So did you ever see the person that shot him?
26:35No, sir.
26:36Okay.
26:37Have you ever seen her or heard her talk about having a gun?
26:42Yes, sir.
26:44Do you know what apartment she was in?
26:46Of course I do.
26:47She gives Raiden Kay's address and phone number.
26:51Okay.
26:52Okay.
26:53I've got both witnesses saying the victim was beating up suspect.
27:03Suspect leaves.
27:04Within minutes, a figure that matches this girl appears from the bushes, gets up behind
27:11him and executes him.
27:12It doesn't appear either one of our witnesses saw the next face whenever the trigger was pulled.
27:19Yes, we think she's the suspect.
27:21I think it's definitely enough to bring her down here.
27:24But here's the deal.
27:26Unless we get a gun on a confession, it's weak as hell.
27:29Raiden will get a search warrant for Kay's apartment.
27:32It's probable she did it.
27:34But I need a gun that's gonna match what's at the scene, or I need a confession.
27:38She has a warrant.
27:39At least I can talk to her, get her feel.
27:4821 hours in.
27:49We're gonna go to Kay's house and search it for a gun.
27:54With the signed search warrant in hand, the team heads to Kay's apartment.
27:59Basically, she lives right around the corner before it happened.
28:02She had plenty of time to go home, park her car, and go kill the guy.
28:08Look out.
28:17Call the police!
28:18Search warrant!
28:24Call the police! Search warrant!
28:38This is pretty bare.
28:50About as bare an apartment as you can possibly get.
28:59Came up dry.
29:01It looks like they've been moving out.
29:02There's actually very little in there.
29:04Most of what was in there was junk.
29:06Come on, Camus.
29:08The team canvases the complex, hoping for a lead on Kay's whereabouts.
29:13I'm looking for Shorty.
29:15I have not seen her since this thing happened.
29:18The neighbor says she last saw Kay yesterday afternoon.
29:24Has she got something to do with it?
29:26Well, let's put it this way.
29:27We just kicked her in her door.
29:30I'm a homicide detective, and she's my number one person I have to find.
29:34She's disappeared.
29:35Do you know where she would have went, though?
29:37We don't talk about that.
29:38Okay.
29:40She's driving a black Nissan Rogue.
29:42You have a tag?
29:43She has a fake pro tag.
29:45She says Kay's Nissan Rogue has paper tags from a local dealership.
29:51Was it here last night?
29:52No.
29:53She's home.
29:54Yeah.
29:56There's my number.
29:57If you see that car at all, you can call me night or day.
30:02Okay.
30:03I appreciate your time, man.
30:04I know what the car is now.
30:10It's a Nissan Rogue.
30:11Ride it.
30:11We'll put out a bolo for Kay's black Nissan Rogue.
30:15So, at least we have something to narrow it down.
30:19Then.
30:20How you doing?
30:22Did you see the apartment we went in?
30:24Yeah.
30:24When's the last time you've seen the resident there?
30:27I've seen activity over there in the last four feet of the home.
30:32Did you hear anything last night?
30:34I heard somebody knock on the door.
30:36It was after dark.
30:38But I've got surveillance.
30:39Oh, good.
30:44I appreciate you very much.
30:53The guy up there's got a camera, right?
30:54It's pointing this way.
30:56He says we could look at him.
30:57Cool.
30:58Can you handle that?
31:00I'm looking from 7.30 to 9.
31:02Yep.
31:027.30 p.m. to 9.
31:03Yep.
31:04Basically, she has the fight with the victim.
31:07She leaves in her car and comes here.
31:10I'm trying to figure out,
31:11should she go back and kill him
31:12or does she have a guy go through it?
31:15The witnesses think it was her.
31:18I'm going to go up there with Nathan
31:19because Nathan's got,
31:21he's probably got a thumb drive.
31:22Okay.
31:24Our potential suspect
31:26is not liked in this complex by anybody.
31:29Like, every neighbor wants to come tell on her.
31:31So, we'll see.
31:39I realize today I've eaten one donut
31:42and one-on-one cookies.
31:43As Ryden takes a break
31:45after working 22 hours straight...
31:48Give me some good news.
31:52Detective Jason White calls in
31:54with an update on the surveillance video.
31:56We're still trying to get into the system,
31:58so we're not there yet with any news,
32:00but we're trying.
32:01Okay.
32:01That's going to be huge
32:03if we see how many people come in and out
32:05during the murder time frame.
32:07Fingers crossed we'll have a problem cause.
32:10If there's something on this guy's camera,
32:12we'll get it.
32:12Thanks, Jason.
32:13I appreciate it.
32:14All right, buddy.
32:14All right, buddy.
32:15Bye.
32:15Time to go home and get some sleep.
32:33The next morning...
32:35I got the video surveillance from the neighborhood.
32:39It's a pretty good video.
32:42This is Miss McNack's apartment
32:45and we'll see what happens.
32:51There she is.
32:53Three minutes before the 911 call.
32:56It's 7.25 p.m.
32:58There's a suspect returning home
33:00right after the fight.
33:02She runs in, leaves the door open.
33:05Not intending to stay, it looked like,
33:07since we left the door wide open.
33:10Now she ran back out.
33:12More than likely got a gun.
33:15Four minutes later.
33:18Okay, now she's returning after the shots have been heard.
33:21She's running, trying to get in.
33:23So this is a minute after the shots were called in by the police.
33:32She didn't make it in.
33:34Now the entire family's running out of the house
33:36to the suspect.
33:39This arrest for a neighbor,
33:40a strong timeline of what happened,
33:42that she was involved in the murder.
33:43I'm going to try to get a warrant
33:47for her arrest issue today.
33:49The next step is to find her
33:50and get her set of the story.
33:58As the first 48 ticks away...
34:00Now four or five places up here to check.
34:05Detectives in the fugitive warrant squad
34:07scour the city for Kay
34:09and her black Nissan Rogue.
34:22Here it is right here, back to...
34:24That's her car.
34:26Detective Brad Sharp spots the Nissan
34:29outside the home of one of Kay's relatives.
34:32We'll get turned around up here.
34:35Warren's officers will keep eyes on the house,
34:37hoping to catch Kay returning to her car.
34:41There's the back door.
34:42I had that covered.
34:52An hour later...
34:54Yes?
34:55Sharp calls Ryden with an update.
34:58So we stopped the family member who left.
35:03Warren's officers spoke with a family member of Kay's
35:05who left the house.
35:07She gave us some information
35:09that she had dropped her car off
35:11there in this afternoon.
35:13The woman said Kay dropped her car off
35:15at 1.30 p.m.
35:18She was with a sister.
35:20Then left with her sister
35:21in a blue Mercury Grand Marquee.
35:24Okay.
35:26We got some good leads to follow.
35:28Okay, thanks, bye.
35:29As the warrant squad
35:31continues to search for Kay...
35:33I'll pull over.
35:34...Ryden reaches out to her.
35:36I texted her a suspect
35:38and said,
35:39Detective Ryden with TPD.
35:40I'm sure you're aware
35:41that the police were looking for you.
35:43I'm a detective you need to contact.
35:44I'd like to get your side of the story.
35:46I know you were assaulted.
35:48Please call or text me
35:49and you can read this.
35:49Thanks, Detective Ryden.
35:51At this point,
35:52if she's not going to talk to me,
35:54she's going to run.
35:55So we'll see.
35:56One week later...
36:12I was at home
36:13watching the Sun's band parade
36:15and I got called in.
36:17Ms. McNack has turned herself in
36:18and wants to give a statement.
36:20The warrant's guys did a great job
36:22and tightened the circle
36:23where she couldn't hang out anymore.
36:24So she turned herself in
36:25and we'll see what she has to say.
36:31Ms. McNack?
36:32Hi.
36:33I'm Detective Ryden.
36:35I do appreciate you coming down here.
36:37I'd like to get your side of the story
36:38if you want to give it.
36:39Make sense?
36:40Okay.
36:42I know you're supposed to give
36:44those ladies a ride
36:45and then truth tells itself.
36:54They called me on the phone
37:03and tell me
37:04that they need to go
37:05send their mom and daddy some money
37:06because they were going to Wichita.
37:08Okay.
37:11So I arrived on there.
37:13She was coming down this day
37:15and that's when the dude walked up.
37:18She says as she parked her car
37:20at the apartment
37:21she saw Brandon approach her friend.
37:28Then Brandon and her friend
37:29walked toward her car.
37:31I was just getting out the car
37:33and he just turned around
37:35and was like
37:36where the f*** my phone at?
37:38I don't know who the speaker I was
37:40and I was like real calm.
37:42I was like I don't got your phone
37:44I don't even f***ing know you like that.
37:45And then from there
37:47he just started hitting me.
37:49He kept beating me all like
37:51Where at?
37:52In my face.
37:53Face?
37:54He made me smash my hand in the door
37:56he threw me on the ground
37:58got my arm cut up.
38:01And at the same time
38:02she's trying to get him off me.
38:04Get off her.
38:05Get off her.
38:06But he studied going crazy.
38:09Had he ever had a beef with you before?
38:11No.
38:11Okay.
38:12She kind of got him to
38:14get off a little bit.
38:16I turned around
38:17and I grabbed my gun out.
38:19My glove before.
38:22And when I turned back around
38:24he was rushing back to me.
38:27And then I started shooting.
38:30And he was still like
38:32rushing towards me.
38:33I'm like what the heck?
38:35Because I shot like
38:36four shots
38:38or five shots
38:39before I even hit him.
38:42Did you shoot again?
38:44Because I have a pause
38:45in between shots.
38:46Yeah.
38:47The pause is when
38:48I'm seeing he was rushing
38:49and he came closer.
38:52And then
38:52I'm guessing that's like
38:54when I hit him
38:55because he didn't try
38:56to charge me no more.
38:59When I jumped in my car
39:00and I drove off.
39:02Then where did you go?
39:03Um
39:04And what did you do?
39:06Got my kids
39:07and then I left.
39:09She says she and her kids
39:10drove to a relative's house.
39:13Okay we're gonna
39:13go into a little more details.
39:16This is gonna sound
39:17like a weird question
39:19but I'm gonna ask you.
39:19Why did you shoot him?
39:20Because I felt
39:24aside that I was good.
39:26He was erratic
39:27like he wasn't gonna stop.
39:32So
39:33there's a couple
39:34inconsistencies
39:35and I'm gonna
39:35ask you about them
39:36and then maybe
39:37you can explain them.
39:39I have been told
39:40that
39:41you left in your car
39:42and went home
39:44for like
39:44not even a minute.
39:45and I see you
39:47on video
39:47and you go
39:49in your apartment
39:50and you leave
39:51within seconds.
39:54And
39:54that's when
39:55it appears
39:56the shooting
39:56was called
39:57into the police.
39:59So this is my question
40:00after the fight.
40:02Did you go in the house
40:03and get the gun?
40:09Okay
40:09that's what I wanna know.
40:12Did you have to
40:13load the magazine?
40:14Yeah.
40:15in the car.
40:17Now when you
40:18went back over there
40:19did you have to drive
40:20or did you just walk?
40:21Well I drove
40:22halfway
40:23and when I got
40:25back
40:25he was still
40:26right there
40:27going crazy.
40:29And then
40:29that's when
40:30I jumped out
40:30and
40:31I came up
40:32and I'm like
40:33fire, fire.
40:35And we was
40:36a stretch away.
40:40Did you fire
40:41the first four
40:41and then get closer
40:42to him?
40:44I'm getting closer.
40:45Uh-huh.
40:45And he's
40:46getting close.
40:48Okay.
40:49Do you think
40:49you shot him
40:50with the first set
40:51or the second set?
40:52If you know.
40:54Second.
40:56Got the lid
40:56I got in my car.
40:57And then did you
40:58go back to the apartment
40:58to get the kids?
40:59So all that stuff's true.
41:01Yeah.
41:03Do you think
41:03you did make
41:04a bad decision
41:04looking back on it now?
41:07Yes.
41:08If you had
41:09need to do it over
41:09would you
41:11just call the police?
41:12Yeah.
41:15Okay.
41:15I'll be back
41:16very shortly.
41:23That's one of
41:23the better confessions
41:24I've had
41:24in homicide.
41:27She's likable.
41:28She just had a story
41:29and then she lied
41:29and then she told
41:30the truth.
41:30And that's exactly
41:31what the investigation
41:32revealed.
41:33I just didn't know
41:34she went and got bullets.
41:35I thought she went
41:35and got a gun
41:36but she had to get bullets
41:37to load the gun.
41:37That was the most
41:42premeditated murder
41:43I've ever heard of though.
41:44She basically had
41:45three minutes to
41:46decide I'm going
41:47to go kill him
41:48and this is how
41:48I'm going to go do it.
41:49So it really can't get
41:50more first-degree murder
41:51than that.
42:02She's got four kids.
42:04I mean,
42:04sad that four kids' lives
42:05have changed
42:06because their mom
42:07went to go get
42:07a ride to someone
42:08trying to be a good person
42:09and ten minutes later
42:10she's killed
42:11Breanne Jenkins.
42:13He shouldn't have
42:13assaulted a female
42:14to begin with.
42:15She shouldn't have
42:16gone and premeditated
42:18her murder.
42:18She could have called
42:19the police and we
42:19would have been happy
42:20to arrest Breanne Jenkins
42:21for beating her up.
42:22There's so many things
42:23that can have been done
42:23different in this case.
42:25You can't go
42:26take justice in your own
42:27hand and kill someone
42:28just because you got
42:28beaten up.
42:29It's not right
42:30that she was assaulted
42:31but it doesn't justify
42:33killing someone either.
42:34She should have been
42:38she should have been
42:39it's not right.
42:39She should have been
42:40in the middle of the day.
42:40She should have been
42:43shortly.
