00:00this is your new music session thank you to capital records hard rock hotel new york and of course
00:07lewis capaldi so all in all how does it feel to be back i feel good i feel excited i feel happy i
00:18feel uh energized i feel yeah refreshed and reinvigorated and ready to go good good so
00:24going back to that glastonbury stage two years later i imagine you had all the feels what were
00:31you kind of going through i was i was scared yeah scared little boy but um i really enjoyed it it
00:37became ended up being like the best one of the best days of my life yeah um uh until i'm sure
00:43i have a child or something right right right i might have a child and be like well actually
00:49glastonbury probably better than this um yeah yeah no it was it was incredible i just felt um
00:56it was weird it was like scary and stuff but it was like backstage was like really calm i basically
01:02i told everyone except from the band and the crew that i wasn't letting anyone backstage wow not
01:09because even my mom and dad and stuff because i was like i didn't want anyone else's sort of
01:13nervous energy rubbing rubbing up against me right i didn't want anyone rubbing up against me
01:19yes yes uh only good rubs yeah yeah yeah i didn't want my mom and dad rubbing up against me
01:24backstage um but um sorry um no i didn't want anyone's yet that never because i think obviously
01:30they are like my mom and dad and my management and stuff like they're all it's only natural like
01:35it's a scary thing for and friends who came and stuff as well like it's only natural they're all
01:40going to be like but anxious yeah nervous after what happened last time so um i wanted it to feel as
01:45like calming as possible backstage so afterwards we celebrated everybody but um it was uh yeah it
01:52was quite quiet chilled backstage before it and then we went out and did it and it was just
01:56yeah it was incredible good for you bro setting up those boundaries and stuff like that just knowing
02:02knowing yourself well enough to be like you know what i need to i need to do this solo dolo yeah
02:07solo dolo that's good yeah so you performed uh survive yes for the first time live there um
02:15the fan reaction was just insane um what did that feel like were you were you happy just having it out
02:23into the world yeah i think so because that's the thing as though like i am was kind of thinking oh
02:29it'd be nice when i started to feel ready to do come back and do stuff and was probably the tail end of
02:36last year and i reached out to my manager and i said oh i'd like to do glastonbury again yeah and
02:41i'd like to release survive the same week um but it was on the lead up to that i was like this was a
02:47terrible decision because it was like oh this is actually quite a there's quite a lot going on now
02:53that i really felt like i may have bitten off more than i could chew but then we all came out together
02:58really nicely and stuff but it was definitely a a stressful few weeks in the lead up to it which is
03:03uh what i'm trying to avoid but um it was um yeah it was nice i felt like it was really important
03:10to get it all out to get survive out on the same day that um glastonbury happened because i just felt
03:16like it was a nice um marketing ploy no i'm joking i felt like i felt like it was a nice um no it's just
03:23a really nice uh i don't know i wanted it to feel so um i wanted people to know immediately here's
03:32where i'm at yeah yeah um when i came back so um so yeah it felt good and it was really good and then
03:38also i felt nervous playing at this festival only not only because it's hard to sing and stuff but
03:43because people when i'm at a festival the last thing i want to hear is someone singing a new song
03:47i hate i hate when bands do that yeah yeah i hate play the heads yeah play the heads and leave
03:54swiftly you know what i mean um so yeah i had the people of glaston had to suffer for three minutes
04:00while i did that but um it was well you need a pee break bro we're not listen man we are emotionally
04:06tethered to your story now you have us we're you're good you're good so when you press pause and took a
04:12step back was this actually the first song you wrote when you uh no it wouldn't have been the first song
04:16i wrote okay but it was the first song when i felt like because that was the thing i wasn't
04:20really writing for the sake of i was just writing to write got you and maybe i'd write for other
04:25people and because there was a point where this wasn't um uh necessarily on the cards coming back
04:32i don't know if i'm lying when i say that to people it sounds like i'm lying now because you're
04:36like yeah but what else would you have done you're rubbish at everything else but um i um feel like
04:41uh i was yeah i was just kind of writing to write and maybe write for other people and stuff so
04:45it was then yes if i've came quite late yeah okay um and in terms of like the songs that are
04:52that will be coming out this year and this was probably the last one that i wrote no no no second
04:56last one second last one okay um so yeah it was just um a case of that it just felt this is that when
05:04i wrote a song i was probably oh this could maybe probably when i started having thoughts of this could
05:09be a single or this could be something that you know that i release when i come back and stuff so
05:13um so yeah it was it was definitely the catalyst for a lot of stuff this song so you announced
05:20some uh international shows what's up with the u.s tour i'm keeping it i'm keeping it i'm keeping it
05:28i'm saving the best to last okay you're gonna tell us nothing now i don't i don't have any news
05:36unfortunately i i think early next year i'll come here and play some shows for sure um i would say
05:42i would like to aim for march next year got you but i don't i don't what what day i don't know
05:51what day in march what day i don't know and where's the first location that year i'm literally just
05:56saying things there's no like this there's literally no plan in place you're pressuring me
06:02mike and now i'm just rambling and saying stuff i'll come in march okay go so yeah um you know
06:07so moving forward now how are we protecting lewis capaldi like do you have um certain like
06:13things in place that you know where you remain happy and healthy what's up yeah well i do a lot
06:19less a lot less work now uh i'll try and uh keep it um to like if i'm like for example this trip
06:28we've been on a trip in america for the last week and a bit yeah excuse me and then uh i there's been
06:35a lot more days off than maybe there would have been um not even like a lot more like two yeah so
06:41it's been um stuff like that like having sort of days where i'm not basically not just oh
06:47there it goes again once is once is fine twice is not a coincidence um uh someone someone be farting
06:58up in here um yeah no i uh what was the question i don't know i don't know i mean oh yeah well i'm
07:13protecting myself oh right right right very serious stuff actually stuff yeah nothing stands up against
07:18fart jokes i mean yeah yeah yeah um so i'm yeah taking a lot more time to like basically if i came
07:25america before i would squeeze everything into as many daily day i had free and now i'm chilling
07:31a little bit more uh i do therapy every week um i'm on medication for my tourettes and stuff and it's
07:38all uh thank you yeah cheers medication yeah big pharma woo but um yeah no so it's all it's good man i'm
07:49just i'm just trying to be less just try to have fun sure so have you found any like hobbies when you
07:55were a way that that brought you pure joy heavy heavy heavy drinking okay good yeah yeah pure joy
08:01yeah exactly no i i like i go outside more no i used to be quite uh i didn't realize how much
08:09time i spent indoors looking at my phone and trust me yeah i still look at that phone yeah i love
08:14looking at that phone you know where i was seated i had a i had a good butt shot of you so did you
08:21have two phones in your back pocket or was it one phone and a wallet i was looking i was my phone
08:26okay and then i've got how dare you my oh okay okay cool i was like hmm what is that other thing
08:34it's like a passport which is bizarre that i have it in my okay yeah yeah my uh my sweet buns yeah
08:44i couldn't take my eyes away but um so uh being outside more that little bit bro it really helps
08:51yeah for sure i live near like a big greenery yes i won't say where in london but i live near that
08:58that a big green space in london yeah and i go there quite a lot and lie down yeah and sort of fall
09:04asleep outside yes really enjoying falling asleep outside at the minute you got to do it uh barefoot
09:09moving forward try to take it to the next level i hate feet okay even your own even my own
09:15every day i wake up and i go god i hate you yeah yeah because you're just looking at them when you
09:20wake up really they're there curse the curse these blasted feet is what i say to myself do you sleep
09:25with socks on uh no i sleep with socks off oh you do yeah yeah but uh yeah they're out there
09:30the dogs are barking for sure all right yeah i'm sorry about that that's fine don't worry
09:34well all right uh before we wrap up um you know with this new project do you think fans will
09:41hear you know sonically a big difference or lyrically a big difference what do you think's
09:47the biggest no no i'm joking no no yeah um there's a the next song that we release um i sing quite
09:55differently on it i do it's quite okay that's quite high okay uh like not like shouting i don't like
10:01a lot of my music is shouting yeah um and i i understand that so it's a bit more uh soft and
10:08um delicate this next song what's the name of the song can't tell you that okay you almost you almost
10:13got me you almost got me yeah i can't tell you that just yet but um i yeah so that and then yeah
10:21there's another song on there um on there i'm doing an ep at some point so that's i was going to
10:27i was trying to hide it but yeah yeah i'm obviously not going to announce other stuff
10:31and not release more music do you know what i mean yeah um so there's another song that is really
10:35like the lyrical the lyrical um content of it is probably the most personal song i've ever written
10:40so that's uh that's coming out soon also um and uh yeah so i don't know it's still the system
10:48pop music baby yeah still pop music but um i yeah yeah i like it a lot i like this this is my
10:54favorite stuff i've written good until i write the next stuff and i need to sell that and i'll say the
10:58same thing about that as it should be bro that i mean that's that's important yeah yeah um we got
11:03two questions from fans that are here actually so we're gonna wrap with those two um we have
11:09ariel from south richmond hill queens hello hi hi um what is the biggest goal you hope to
11:16accomplish with your return to music uh i i've tried not to set goals anymore i'll tell you why
11:25are you real um i basically i felt like in the past it became quite um i'm not saying being goal
11:32orientated is a bad thing but for me i became quite uh obsessed with like hitting markers and doing this
11:38and i need to do this thing and if i don't do this thing this has been a failure if i don't do this
11:42thing this has been i've not worked hard enough and for me right now the goal is just to get back
11:47play some songs have a good time release music have fun and um yeah that is so yeah i guess the
11:53goal is to just enjoy myself and be back here doing it i kind of achieved the goal by being here
11:57so yeah and we have debbie from brooklyn debbie hello debbie how are you what song i i didn't know do you
12:07want to continue no just say how are you sorry just just making checks yes no no no i know i felt
12:12like i interrupted you well what song are you most proud of writing and why oh yeah the most song
12:17probably most proud of writing is a song that's on this upcoming ep uh ep league yeah um it's called
12:25the day that i die and it's sad but um it's good i think sad but good i like it i really like it i
12:32i like i like um the sort of sadness in it but it's like a sad but it's happy yeah i think that's
12:39there's hope in there there's hope let's go there's hope there's hope there's hope there's hope it's a
12:43it's a it's a it's a it's a sad it's a sort of a side a lovely um it's a happy song about death
