Floods hit northern Thailand after heavy rains from Tropical Storm 'Wipha'
Flooding struck Thailand’s northern province of Nan on July 23, 2025 following the passage of Tropical Storm 'Wipha,' with residents seen wading through waist-high muddy water as rain continued to fall. The storm, which made landfall in Vietnam’s northern provinces of Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa on July 22, brought wind speeds of up to 74 kph (46 mph), according to Vietnam's national weather forecasting agency. It had slowed from approximately 100 kph as it approached the coast. Heavy rainfall from the storm has since affected parts of northern Thailand, including Nan province, where streets were inundated and local transportation disrupted.
