00:00The Immigration Department detained 225 individuals, including a large number of foreign workers and two local managerial staff,
00:10during a raid on Johor's largest petrochemical material processing and structural construction site.
00:15The operation, codenamed Ops Mahir, was carried out by the Johor Immigration Department's Enforcement Unit at 11 a.m. on Tuesday
00:25at a major construction site in Tanjung Langsat, Pasir Gudang.
00:31In a statement on Thursday, Johor Immigration Director Datuk Mohamed Rusti,
00:36Mohamed Daruss said the raid followed intelligence that undocumented foreign workers were being illegally employed at the site.
00:42A total of 664 individuals were screened during the operation, with 225 detained.
00:49Those held, aged between 21 and 63, included 133 Chinese nationals, 84 Bangladeshis, 2 Indonesians, 2 Pakistanis, and 2 Nepalis.
01:02A local man and woman, identified as the project's site manager and human resources manager, were also detained.
01:10They are suspected of employing and sheltering undocumented workers allegedly active at the site for the past two to three months.
01:17The foreign nationals are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959-63 and Immigration Regulations 1963
01:27for entering and staying without valid documents, overstaying, misusing social visit passes, and violating past conditions.
01:36The two locals are being investigated under Section 56, Subsection 1, Subsection D, of the same act for hiring or harboring undocumented workers.
01:45Six individuals have also been issued notices to assist in the investigation.
01:51Mohamed Rusti said all detainees are currently being held at the Perkan Nana's Immigration Detention Depot in Pontian for further investigation.
