Ron Desantis Asked For Response To Viral Video Of Jacksonville Police Traffic Stop

At a press briefing, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) was asked about a viral video of a traffic stop by the Jacksonville Police.

00:00I'll answer that. Does anyone have any questions about all this stuff here?

00:06Okay. All right. Go ahead.

00:08Okay. Wanted me to ask about the viral video of the traffic stop conducted earlier this year by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

00:16Is that something that you have seen?

00:18Well, I haven't seen it, but I heard that it was debunked.

00:21I heard that what I heard was that this was out there, there was a narrative that was done,

00:26and then JSO provided the context, and things were a lot different.

00:30Now, I have not personally seen it, but that would not surprise me if that's what happens,

00:35because that's what happens in so many of these things.

00:37There's a rush to judgment.

00:39There's a desire to try to get views and clicks by creating division.

00:46And, you know, I know the sheriff here.

00:47If people get out of line, he's going to hold them accountable.

00:51But if guys are being unfairly targeted as if they did something wrong,

00:56because there's not enough context, then that's good.

00:58So I don't know for sure.

01:00But I have heard that once you provide context that things are different,

01:04and that has definitely been true around the country in recent years.

01:08I mean, you remember the Ferguson, Missouri.

01:11I mean, you had CNN anchors saying, hands up, don't shoot.

01:15Like, basically, the narrative was you had this guy, innocent, unarmed, has his hands up,

01:21and some rogue cop just guns him down, and they were saying race was the reason to do it.

01:25Turns out, even Eric Holder's Justice Department did a thorough investigation

01:31and said the officer acted appropriately under the circumstances.

01:35And so, you know, you have these situations where people will want to make an issue.

01:39But I have every confidence in our sheriff here in Jacksonville

01:43that if there's anything that these guys are not living up to the standards,

01:48he's going to hold them accountable.

01:49But it seems to me like this is trying to create a narrative.

01:52You know, maybe I'll review it, you know, at some point.

01:55But I kind of heard about it.

01:57Then I heard the response.

01:58And I'm like, yeah, that kind of checks out to me.
