00:00Q, does anyone have any questions back there?
00:03First off, I know it's not on the topic of education, but do you know when the instruction would begin on camp planning?
00:10So, the Division of Emergency Management closed the request for productions last week.
00:17I don't know if they've gone through and evaluated.
00:21I mean, all these projects are competitively bid, so they've got to score the projects as they come in, or the vendors.
00:26So, eventually, I think vendors will be selected, and then at that point, they would be able to do.
00:31Now, we're also going to see what the demand signal for this is.
00:35You know, we did the Alligator Alcatraz and set that up last week.
00:38It was something that DHS, you know, because people have been concerned, you know, why aren't there more deportations?
00:45I know Kayan, you know, wants to see more, right?
00:48I mean, it's like you have Biden let in how many millions and millions, just Biden, and we had many millions before that.
00:54And so, they're like, okay, you know, why are, and what DHS would tell us is, look, we don't have the manpower and the capacity to just be processing and have someone in, like, a bed overnight or whatever before they can be deported.
01:08So, they asked us for help on that.
01:10Now, we're the only state in the country that requires our state and local law enforcement to participate with immigration enforcement.
01:17And that's part of the reason why on any given day, the number of arrests of illegal aliens throughout the country, 15 to 20 percent, are just Florida alone.
01:27So, we're punching way above our weight class on that.
01:30And so, we said, okay, we'll help, and we have an ability with emergency management to move very quickly.
01:42I mean, you remember in Jacksonville when we had the Delta COVID.
01:47You remember, COVID was 2020.
01:49Then they had these MNRA shots, and a lot of people took them, and people said, if you take it, COVID will be over.
01:56And yet, you had a massive Delta wave in the summer of 21, even as all this stuff had been out.
02:02And so, it was like, I mean, it was really going fast, too.
02:07So, but we did have a treatment, these monoclonal antibodies.
02:11And so, people were asking, and I'm like, yeah, I'll do it.
02:14So, we set up clinics.
02:15We did the first one in Jacksonville.
02:17We ended up setting up all over the state.
02:19You know, that saved thousands of lives just by doing that and doing it very quickly.
02:23Can you imagine if this were California?
02:25It would have taken them six months to be able to do any of that.
02:27So, we moved very quickly, and we take pride in that.
02:30And so, when we had the opportunity to do this, we said, listen, we'll do it if it's going to be something that is actually going to bear dividends.
02:38We don't want to do it just to do it.
02:40And so, DHS basically approved it.
02:42So, everything we're doing will be reimbursable by the federal government.
02:47And so, people say, well, Florida should be spending.
02:49First of all, when you spend money for this, you save money because you take stress off hospitals, schools, criminal justice, all that.
02:58So, I don't even want to, enforcing the law ultimately will save money rather than just let lawlessness take over.
03:04But it is, we're fronting it, but we are getting reimbursed in it.
03:07So, we were able to stand it up in about a week.
03:11And so, they did, I think, the day or two after we opened it, when the president was there, they started bringing people.
03:18And I can tell you, the reports I've had, some of these people, these are really bad dudes.
03:23I mean, like, and I'm not one to say, like, you know, if you're here illegally, you have committed an offense.
03:28And I wouldn't, I would do no amnesty for anybody.
03:31Don't get me wrong.
03:31I'm not saying, oh, only if you commit serious crime should you be deported.
03:35I think the law needs to be enforced.
03:36But the reality is, some of the people DHS is sending there, they have committed criminal misconduct.
03:41And a lot of criminal misconduct, that's probably not been even charged because they're just involved in some of this stuff.
03:47And so, you know, we need to make sure that they're removed from the country.
03:50So, DHS is going to be doing that.
03:52And so, what we want to know is, okay, you know, what's the demand signal for it?
03:57You know, we're happy to, we're happy to stand it up.
04:00But we want to make sure that it's being used to effectuate the removal of illegal aliens from the country.
04:06That's, that's why we're doing this.
04:08We're not doing it just for show.
04:10We're not doing it just for, it's can you do that?
04:12And if you do that, that will pay dividends for people here in the state of Florida.
04:17It'd be better for education.
04:18It'd be better for health care.
04:20It'd be better for all these things.
04:21Better for housing, quite frankly, particularly rental housing.
04:26So, and Kyan knows all this because she's been working on this with us for years.
04:29So, I think we'll be able to move very quickly if there's the demand signal for that.
04:35Now, on the emergency management front, I do, we do have people en route.
04:40Our water rescue teams are en route to help Texas.
04:44Because, you know, just as a dad, when you see that, that's a real, real heartbreaker.
04:51And, you know, there's people are trying to politicize it.
04:54The reality is, I think there were alarms or there were notices that went out at 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. in the morning when people were sleeping.
05:00I mean, it's like there's not an easy fix to that.
05:02It was a very freak thing.
05:03And so, rather than cast blame and try to politicize it, I think we should all pull together and do what we can to help the people of Texas.
05:12Because it's, you know, Mother Nature, when it's just, especially the water.
05:18I mean, we see that in Florida with storm surge and stuff.
05:21You know, it can be really, really nasty.
05:23And this was a biblical flood.
05:25It was much more than what I think they anticipated.
05:28But, nevertheless, we're in that.
05:30Texas has helped us when we've had different issues throughout the years.
05:34And we're happy to step up.
05:35And we've helped Texas in the past, too.
05:37I know we helped them in Harvey, some of the other things.
05:39But we are engaged in that with our resources.
05:43And if we can be helpful on that, then I think it will be a good thing.
