00:00It's the first qualifying session Formula One has seen on a Friday since 2003.

00:05Welcome along to this experimental weekend here at Silverstone.

00:11Russell makes his way out of club now.

00:13Final corner from 16th goes up to 8th and ahead of Carlos Sainz, who, as I said, is motoring.

00:18Giovinazzi is out-qualified. Kimi Räikkönen is a teammate at Silverstone.

00:22On all three appearances previously, goes sixth fastest.

00:25Mick Schumacher stays in the bottom five, only 18th.

00:28Sebastian Vettel rides the kerbs well, goes fifth fastest.

00:31And that should see him through to Q2 as well, as Esteban Ocon now makes his way round the final corner.

00:37And he jumps to third fastest, pushing Kimi Räikkönen into the bottom five.

00:42Tsunoda now, the driver at risk, as Lance Stroll goes ahead of him, pushes the Alfa Tauri down into the bottom five.

00:48Perez goes second fastest. What a lap that was from him.

00:52Sainz fourth fastest overall, and looking now to Yuki Tsunoda's personal best through the middle sector.

01:00As Ricciardo goes fifth fastest and safely into Q2, here comes Yuki Tsunoda now.

01:05And he stays in that bottom five as Hamilton goes second fastest with his final flying lap in this qualifying one session.

01:15A few people under pressure. Tsunoda's lap was never going to be good enough.

01:19Stroll just squeezing in to Q2 there in P15.

01:24Two very good sectors by Hamilton, who goes quickest overall with a 1.26-0, nearly half a second clear of Max Verstappen.

01:33Sainz goes fourth fastest. You can hear what the British fans think of Hamilton's time as he crosses the line.

01:38Big cheer coming up for them as Gasly, only tenth fastest for Pierre Gasly.

01:42So he is at risk of not making Q3 here as Leclerc goes fifth quickest.

01:47Now, Russell and Alonso and Stroll and Giovinazzi all out on the track, trying to displace Pierre Gasly from the top ten.

01:54Stroll crosses the line, and he can't make it into the top ten, only fifteenth for him.

01:59Lando Norris is through, ninth fastest. Esteban Ocon comes next, and he stays eleventh fastest.

02:04What about his teammate, Fernando Alonso? Next to cross the line, Alonso goes tenth, pushes Gasly out of Q3 for the second time.

03:13Hamilton, Verstappen and Bottas as they reach the end of the middle sector.

03:20Bottas does a 35-1 in the middle part of the lap.

03:24Hamilton is a tenth of a second quicker in the middle part of the lap,

03:27and Max Verstappen picks up two tenths on Lewis Hamilton.

03:31Game on as we enter the final third, as Ricciardo goes second fastest ahead of Charles Leclerc,

03:36Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.

03:38Lando Norris now goes second fastest in this final part of qualifying.

03:42Six minutes to go as Bottas with a 1.26.5,

03:45the man who was on pole last time we came into Silverstone,

03:48is quickest, but not for long.

03:50Hamilton beats him and Verstappen into second place.

04:47This could be a very fine Friday for the defending champion and home hero British driver Lewis Hamilton.

04:58Lewis is really turning it on here for this sprint qualifying session.

05:17So Verstappen still has the chance here, and he's only a few hundredths of a second down.

05:21And Bottas has crossed the line.

05:23Third fastest ahead of Perez, Norris, Ricciardo.

05:26Russell, seventh fastest ahead of Leclerc.

05:28As Sainz goes ahead of Leclerc now as Verstappen makes his way to the Vail chicane.

05:33Now, he said before the tyres weren't hanging on towards the end of the lap.
